Life in Pereira
Here is my article on Pereira
LIOS In Pereira, Colombia
The city of Pereira (pronounced peh-ray-rah) lies in the foothills of the Andes of western Colombia, and its metropolitan area is located in a valley of the river Otún (O-tuhn). The official metro area consists of three municipalities. Pereira, Dosquebradas (dose-kay-brah-dahs), and La Virginia (lah veer-heen-yah) and is home to a population of around 705,000.
The Spanish discovered the area in 1540 and later began the settlement of Cartago Viejo (kar-ta-go veyay-hoe). The settlement was moved to its current location in 1691, and in 1816 two brothers, José Franciso and Manuel Pereira, took shelter nearby after the defeat of Simón Bolivar. In 1863 a priest founded Pereira at the site of the current Plaza Bolivar.
Pereira is one of the cities that make up the Coffee Triangle, along with nearby Armenia (ahr-mehn-yah) and Manizales (mahn-ee-sahl-ess). As part of the coffee region, stunning scenery and picturesque small pueblos surround Pereira. The area boasts bountiful natural resources and many opportunities for hiking, photography, horseback riding, and much more.
Many expats living in Pereira first moved to Medellín (meh-deh-yeen), but once they discovered the smaller Pereira, they found it to be more livable, with less traffic and pollution than the large and densely populated Medellín. Pereira is also a very walkable city, depending on where you decide to live.
From hole-in-the-wall shops selling homemade empanadas to elegant restaurants with fine cuisine, your dining experience will be varied with many options in the city. And what’s more, the sizzling nightlife in Pereira draws visitors from around the coffee region.
The weather is perfect. At an elevation of 4,829 feet (1,411 meters), Pereira enjoys beautiful weather all year, with warm, balmy days and cool, pleasant nights. Nearby hot springs, picturesque little pueblos within a couple hours, and countless small farms and country homes in the surrounding areas make for great getaways from the small city. Pereira is also a jumping off point to a pair of the top nature preserves in Colombia: Parque Ucumarí (pahr-kay ooh-koo-mar-ee) and Santuario Otún Quimbaya (sahn-too-ahr-eyo o-tuhn keem-bah-yah).
Pereira is also a First-World environment; the city’s water is drinkable, and it boasts well-maintained roads, dependable phone service, electricity, and high-speed Internet. You’ll find many shopping options, from mom-and-pop stores to upscale boutiques… as well as several large, modern shopping malls, including Parque Arboleda (pahr-kay ahr-boe-leh-dah) mall, which rivals the best malls found in Bogotá (bog-goh-tah) and Medellín. The banks and financial services in the city are the same as you will find in biggest cities in Colombia, and they are solid and dependable.
Pereira has a rich cultural scene, and many fine restaurants, coffee shops, and sidewalk cafés. It’s also a place where you can truly enjoy the great outdoors in the coffee region. And to top it off, you’ll enjoy a reasonable cost of living. Potential expats, second homebuyers, investors, and workers with portable careers will find Pereira is a lower-cost alternative to Medellín.

COLOMBIAN COFFEE TOUR | Eileen Aldis
In this vlog we tour a Colombian coffee farm located in beautiful Salento, Quindio. If you're like me, when you think of Colombia you also think of COFFEE. I was so excited to see actual coffee plants for the first time in my life and learn more about the whole process of how they grow, different types of varietals, and why Colombia is such a big producer and exporter of Arabica coffee beans. Most farms also grow other types of food, including corn and beans which are staples of the Colombian diet. The plantation we visited also grows pineapple, yucca, avocado, tea, blackberries, bamboo, and guava which we were tempted to pick off the trees to sample! They also grow bananas and plantains because 'traditional'` coffee really likes to grow in shade. Banana trees are planted between the coffee plants because they grow tall and fast and provide shade for the coffee. We got to eat fresh bananas and discovered that the local dogs enjoy eating them too! Touring this farm and learning about local agriculture and coffee production was a major highlight for me and something I'll never forget. I hope you enjoy it too and that it gives you something to think about the next time you pour yourself a cup of joe. If you visit Colombia, I highly recommend touring a coffee plantation. There are over 300,000 coffee farms in Colombia but if you're near Salento then the Finca Don Eduardo tour is absolutely wonderful. They offer tours daily in both English and Spanish. Now go have a cup of coffee!

Santa Rosa is located in the coffee region close to Pereira. These thermals are the most popular in the area because of their easy access and because they are tasteless and odourless. Hot springs sometimes smell like sulphur and minerals in the water.
If you like hot springs and you are doing a tour around the coffee region, it is probably worth to go there for a day or even spend one night.
They offer spa services as well.

The beautiful town of Villa de Leyva is one of the most touristic in Colombia, frequently visited by tourists from all over the world, famous for its colonial-style architecture. 309.873 21/7
Villa de Leyva has a very active nightlife, but is famous for its museums and cultural and ecological activity.
In the surroundings of Villa de Leyva you can practice adventure sports such as trekking or ecological walks, a few kilometers away there are caverns of great height where speleology is practiced.
In Villa de Leyva is the fossil museum.
In Villa de Leyva horseback riding, ATV tours are practiced.
On this occasion we toured the streets of Villa de Leyva bohemian and artistic life, as well as museums and antique stores, we find in Villa de Leyva a large number of restaurants with variety in cuisine for all tastes.
Villa de Leyva is attractive for tourists because it respects its charming colonial architecture, its cobbled square, its silent streets and its Mediterranean climate. Villa de Leyva has been named several times as the most beautiful municipality in Colombia, difficult not to fall in love with its bougainvillea and its white walls, its clay tiles and cobblestone and the majesty of its mountains. Having a coffee or a beer in the square, a wine in the outskirts is a pleasure.
The elevation in Villa de Leyva is 2,143 meters above sea level and has an average temperature of 18 ° Celsius.

Top Most Attractions of Nightlife in Colombia
Colombia nightlife offers something for everyone, from sipping mojitos in the plazas of old Cartagena to dancing the night away in the salsa clubs of Cali. Every big city features a host of theaters for inexpensive music and dance performances.
Overall, Colombian women have a positive reputation as being very friendly and approachable.
The prettier the girl, the more important it is that you speak Spanish if you expect to talk with her and build rapport. The hottest ones know they're hot, and have their pick of the litter, so they're unlikely to have patience for a gringo who can't speak the local language.
Colombia nightlife is pretty quiet Sunday through Wednesday, unless you know the right places to go to (ask the locals). Otherwise, Wednesday and Thursdays offer ladies night at certain discotecas, which can help bring out the locals.
Friday nights are popular, however Saturday nights are the busiest nights of the week.
Unlike in Western countries, girls will freely give out their phone numbers, which is in no way an assurance that you'll actually see her again. The man is expected to make all the phone calls.
If interested, a girl will call a guy, however they often hang up before the guy answers to ensure they are not charged for the call. It is then expected that the man call her back.

The islands of San Andrés Colombia are located in the Caribbean Sea in the Atlantic Ocean, north-west of Colombia, 1208 kilometers from Bogota, the capital of Colombia, a little less than 2 hours by plane.
The islands of San Andrés in their origin of formation are coral islands, hence its charm that gives the color of the sea a transparency and very clear tonality, equally its beaches are a white-gold color and has coral reefs, sandy atolls ; Its great wealth in biodiversity means that in the year 2000 it was declared by UNESCO as a biospheric reserve or Seaflower Biosphere Reserve.

The Blowing Geyser is located at the southern end of the island of San Andres, Colombia, there is a natural phenomenon that resembles a source or geyser, this phenomenon is produced by waves that collide with a series of underground tunnels in the coral reefs producing the action that leads to the release of seawater under pressure.

Cocora Valley, Colombia 4K
The Cocora valley (Spanish: Valle de Cocora) is a valley in the department of Quindío in the country of Colombia. It is located in the Central Cordillera of the Andean mountains. Cocora was the name of a Quimbayan princess, daughter of the local chief Acaime, and means star of water (Spanish: estrella de agua). The valley is part of the Los Nevados National Natural Park, incorporated into the existing national park by the Colombian government in 1985. It is the principal location of the national tree and symbol of Colombia, the Quindío wax palm (Ceroxylon quindiuense), as well as a wide variety of other flora and fauna (some endangered), all of which are protected under the park's national status.
The Cocora valley is the valley of the upper reaches of the Quindío River, the principal river of the department of Quindío, located at an altitude between 1800 and 2400 meters. The valley is approximately 24 km north-east of the departmental capital Armenia, and accessed via a turn-off from the Armenia-Pereira highway, running via Boquia to the town of Salento. Vehicles (either private cars or jeep taxis from Salento) can then travel 11 km further on up into the valley as far as Cocora, a collection of campsites and restaurants - other parts of the valley can only be accessed either by hiking on the numerous trails or on horseback.
The Cocora valley is part of a larger national park, the Los Nevados National Natural Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Natural de Los Nevados). The park covers an area of 58,000 hectares (580 km2) in total,[1] including the north-eastern part of Quindío.
