Micronesian president: BRI to help Pacific island countries
The Belt and Road Initiative is great in helping Pacific island countries, said David W. Panuelo, President of the Federated States of Micronesia, in an interview with Xinhua in Beijing on Dec. 14, 2019.
TOWER TO THE SKY U.S. NAVY MICRONESIA FILM YAP, RUMUNG, GAGIL-TOMIL, MAP 78644
U.S. Navy profile of Micronesia, a subregion of Oceania, comprising thousands of small islands in the western Pacific Ocean. It has a shared cultural history with two other island regions, Polynesia to the east and Melanesia to the south. Includes Yap, Gagil-Tomil, Map and Rumung.
The region has a tropical marine climate, and is part of the Oceania ecozone. There are four main archipelagos along with numerous outlying islands.
At mark 00:37 is Micronesia which comprises of four main islands; the Yap, Rumung, Gagil-tomil and Map all surrounded by a coral reef. These are simple dignified people mostly Malaysian in origin. At mark 1:55, the story of the tower to the sky is made known. At the close of the rainy season, the U.S Coast Guard arrive again bearing equipment to build the station. Here at mark 3:00 is the head of the village of Gagil. Even before his time there had been the Spanish rule. In his own lifetime, he’s had himself different promises as seen at mark 3:10 and also here we also see the failure of those promises. Today, the district trust territory headquarter building in Colonia, capital of yap as seen at mark 3:50 is evidence of people living under another type of rule. Comings and goings as yap remains as it was years ago. At mark 5:00 is the custom of the yap people. Here are the symbols in their clothing. At mark 6:40 are cargoes for the Gagil-tomil Island. A native material good for topping the road is found on the island. At mark 7:20, a road that connects the islands is been developed. As each stretch of road was completed, it was quickly surfaced with the tar. Soon the project will be completed. T the elder, the new road is a pleasing site at mark 8:18. The road was one thing but the tower to the sky was another. At mark 8:40, clearing the site and survey started. The structures had begun with steel bars used for footings at mark 9:15 which are welded together. As for the villagers, life went on as usual, as seen at mark 10:00. At mark 10:40, a moment of mourning is seen. Memorial service is been held by the Yapese where the males bring their shell money for high ranking chiefs at mark 11:10. They can’t remain sad too long, hence, at mark 11:40 are seen celebrating a festive period.
At mark 12:20 is the rainy season, but after the rain is gone, the sun came along; this helped to speed up the construction process. First, a cement block or two and in a few days, it grows into a wall. At mark 13:33, the elder is seen inspecting the building. At mark 14:10, tanks are joined together. At mark 14:50, the antenna tower is been coupled. The majority of the Yapese profess Christianity; 90% of the roman camps as seen at mark 15:35. The next day, the erection of the tower began as seen at mark 16:10 as the coupling began with section by section. They joined the sections together at mark 16:55 as they strife to beat the deadline of the opening of the station and also to beat rain. Now the tower is ready for guides with 1000ft remaining as seen at mark 17:50. The cable is now drawn to the sides of the tower helping to hold the structure at great height as seen at mark 19:10. Some weeks after his visit, the elder came by again at mark 19:20. He was now ready to satisfy his curiosity and was amazed by what he saw. Building and generators were now been set in place. Concrete beams, installation of windows and painting were now been done. A mark 21:50, the generators are started up and loads were been placed on it. In the days that followed with the rain coming to close, only a few sections remain to be added to the structure at mark 22:50. At mark 23:07 is the tower platform. At mark 23:48, the elder came to the site with wonders filling his thoughts; the unbelievable has actually taken place. By now, the signal power has been completed; all that remain is the commission by the US coast guard. At mark 24:20 is the commissioning crew. The commander of the Coast Guard district is seen delivering the principal address officially placing the station into surface. At mark 25:05, the natives are seen dancing. A tower constructed high to the sky at mark 25:55. More than the bridge built, more than the new road that opens the building of roads, even more than money given to the natives. A bond is built here, a bond.

It's Kiribati, but it's pronounced Kiribas. Here are 7 more facts

In this brief video you can find seven little known facts about Kiribati.
More information about the video content bellow:
1. Kiribati is the only nation in all 4 hemispheres of the world (North, South, East and West). While the country’s land area is a mere 811 km2 (33 islands) it has an Exclusive Economic Zone of 3,441,810 km2 making it 4,243X larger! Thus, while the country is only the 187th largest in the world, its EEZ is slightly larger than all of India!
2. Kiribati has a (less famous) Christmas Island. On a map, you’ll find it marked as Kiritimati, but this is only a respelling of the word Christmas. In the Kiribati language, the combination ti is pronounced s. The island is home to only 4 villages, 3 of which are called London, Banana and Poland, and comprises over 70% of Kiribati’s total land area.
3. Most of the islands and atolls are only 1-2 metres above sea level, with the highest point just 81 m above sea level. Two small uninhabited islets, Tebua Tarawa and Abanuea, already disappeared below the sea in 1999. To counter the very real risk of the entire country disappearing beneath the waves within the next 50 years, Kiribati bought 20 km2 of land from Fiji where they can start relocating people.
4. There are no land animals that are native to Kiribati, although early settlers brought dogs and pigs with them. The waters surrounding Kiribati, however, are teaming with fish, seahorses, crabs, jellyfish, sharks, wales and dolphins, plus many more.
5. Kiribati is not the most known country in the world, but you might have heard of the Gilbert Islands. It used to be a British colony until 1979. The name is the local enunciation of Gilberts.
6. There is no rail, river, or lake transport, although canoes travel freely on the lagoons. However, all the major islands have airstrips.
7. South Tarawa is the capital and hub of the Republic of Kiribati and home to approximately half of Kiribati's total population. The island is extremely vulnerable to climate change and natural disasters. Already the effects of rising sea-levels and associated soil salinization are starting to threaten limited fresh water supplies. Households on South Tarawa do not have the option to retreat from coastal erosion, as the atoll is narrow and already crowded.

The Hōkūle'a: Indigenous Resurgence from Hawai'i to Mannahatta
Copresented by the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU and The New School
In the summer of 2016, the Hawaiian voyaging canoe Hōkūle‘a will be arriving to New York City—Lenape Territory—as a part of its worldwide voyage called Mālama Honua (to care for our earth). The Hōkūle‘a uses no modern navigational instruments, but instead ongoing Hawaiian creative practices that read the sun, moon, stars, clouds, winds, waves, and the patterns of a diversity of nonhuman species to find their way. The voyage is a part of a global movement for the resurgence of Indigenous knowledges, languages, and land-based practices that are ever needed in the production of alternative futures for this historical moment. This symposium, which took place on Thursday, March 31, 2016, was a means to think through possibilities existent when Indigenous “subjugated knowledges” chart new epistemes for the twenty-first century.
Panel 2 was hosted by New York University and featured Na'alehu Anthony (The Polynesia Voyaging Society), J. Kēhaulani Kauanui (Wesleyan University), Steven T. Newcomb (Indigenous Law Institute), and was moderated by Dean Saranillio (NYU Department of Social & Cultural Analysis).

SUMMARY
=======
The Chamorro people (/tʃɑˈmɔroʊ/) are the indigenous people of the Mariana Islands; politically divided between the United States territory of Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in Micronesia. Today, significant Chamorro populations also exist in several U.S. states including Hawaii, California, Washington, Texas, Tennessee, Oregon, and Nevada. According to the 2000 Census, approximately 65,000 people of Chamorro ancestry live on Guam and another 19,000 live in the Northern Marianas. Another 93,000 live outside the Marianas in Hawaii and the West Coast of the United States. The Chamorros are primarily Austronesian, but many also have European (Spanish) and East Asian ancestry.

Bikini Atoll (also known as Pikinni Atoll)
Humans have inhabited the atoll for at least 2,000 years.Bikini was visited by only a dozen or so ships before the establishment of the German colony of the Marshall Islands in 1885. Along with the rest of the Marshalls, Bikini was captured by the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1914 during World War I and mandated to the Empire of Japan by the League of Nations in 1920. The Japanese administered the island under the South Pacific Mandate, but mostly left local affairs in hands of traditional local leaders until the start of World War II.
Following the end of World War II, Bikini came under the control of the United States as part of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands until the independence of the Marshall Islands in 1986.

The Lost City of Atlantis - HD Documentary
The Lost City of Atlantis - HD Documentary 2015
Atlantis is a legendary lost island subcontinent often idealized as an advanced, utopian society holding wisdom that could bring world peace. The idea of Atlantis has captivated dreamers, occultists and New Agers for generations. Unlike many legends whose origins have been lost in the mists of time, we know exactly when and where the story of Atlantis first appeared. The story was first told in two of Plato's dialogues, the Timaeus and the Critias, written about 330 B.C. Though today Atlantis is often thought of as a peaceful utopia, the Atlantis that Plato described in his fable was very different. In his book Frauds, Myths and Mysteries: Science and Pseudoscience in Archaeology (McGraw-Hill, 2013) professor of archaeology Ken Feder summarizes the story: A technologically sophisticated but morally bankrupt evil empire — Atlantis — attempts world domination by force. The only thing standing in its way is a relatively small group of spiritually pure, morally principled and incorruptible people — the ancient Athenians. Overcoming overwhelming odds ... the Athenians are able to defeat their far more powerful adversary simply through the force of their spirit. Sound familiar? Plato's Atlantean dialogues are essentially an ancient Greek version of 'Star Wars.'
As propaganda, the Atlantis legend is more about the heroic Athens than a sunken civilization; if Atlantis really existed today and was found, its residents would probably try to kill and enslave us all. It's clear that Plato made up Atlantis as a plot device for his stories because there are no other records of it anywhere else in the world. There are many extant Greek texts; surely someone else would have also mentioned, at least in passing, such a remarkable place. There is simply no evidence from any source that the legends about Atlantis existed before Plato wrote about it.
Atlantis resurfaces For most of the past two millennia, no one thought much about Atlantis; it was just what it appeared to be: a fictional place mentioned in a fable by the ancient Greek philosopher. The idea that Atlantis was an actual lost historical location is a very recent idea, first proposed by a writer named Ignatius Donnelly in 1881. He believed that most of the important accomplishments of the ancient world — such as metallurgy, agriculture, religion and language — must have come from Atlantis. In essence, he argued that ancient cultures weren't sophisticated enough to develop these things on their own, so they must have spread from some unknown advanced civilization. (It is similar to the widely discredited ancient astronauts idea, that Egyptians were not smart enough to build pyramids, and thus extraterrestrials must have helped them.) Later writers elaborated on Donnelly's theories, adding their own opinions and speculations. These included mystic Madame Blavatsky (in her 1888 book, The Secret Doctrine) and famous psychic Edgar Cayce in the 1920s and 1930s. Cayce, who put a fundamentalist Christian spin on the Atlantis story, gave psychic readings for thousands of people — many of whom, he claimed, had past lives in Atlantis. Unfortunately, none of the information was verifiable, and Cayce wrongly predicted that the continent would be discovered in 1969. Charles Berlitz, author of many popular books on the paranormal and unexplained phenomena, researched Atlantis and wrote a 1969 book titled The Mystery of Atlantis. Berlitz, whose family created the famous language-learning courses, not only became convinced that Atlantis was real but also that it was the source of the Bermuda Triangle mystery, a subject he explored in his 1974 best-seller The Bermuda Triangle. Berlitz's wild ideas about the Bermuda Triangle — and, by extension, Atlantis — were definitively debunked the following year by researcher Larry Kusche, author of The Bermuda Triangle Mystery — Solved. Thousands of books, magazines and websites are devoted to Atlantis, and it remains a popular topic in New Age circles.
