TL;DR: Puerto Rico isn't a colony. Treat its people like the Americans they are.
Cruelty mixed with the veneer of compassion and stewardship is the essence of colonialism. Global Opinions editor Karen Attiah says President Trump reinforced that in Puerto Rico, where he suggested survivors of Hurricane Maria are a burden. Subscribe to The Washington Post on YouTube:

The incredible sights of old San Juan PR
What perfect timing to walk up on these boys bombing this hill into “Santa María Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery. This is a colonial-era cemetery located in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is the final resting place of many of Puerto Rico's most prominent natives and residents.”
Puerto Rico, San Juan
Puerto Rico (Spanish for Rich Port), is an unincorporated territory of the United States located in the northeast Caribbean Sea.
It is an archipelago among the Greater Antilles that includes the main island of Puerto Rico and a number of smaller ones, such as Mona, Culebra, and Vieques. The capital and most populous city is San Juan. Its official languages are Spanish and English, though Spanish predominates.
The island's population is approximately 3.4 million.
Originally populated by the indigenous Taíno people, the island was claimed in 1493 by Christopher Columbus for the Crown of Castile during his second voyage. Later it endured invasion attempts from the French, Dutch, and British. Four centuries of Spanish colonial government transformed the island's ethnic, cultural and physical landscapes primarily with waves of African slaves, and Canarian, and Andalusian settlers. In the Spanish imperial imagination, Puerto Rico played a secondary, but strategic role when compared to wealthier colonies like Peru and the mainland parts of New Spain. Spain's distant administrative control continued up to the end of the 19th century, helping to produce a distinctive creole Hispanic culture and language that combined elements from the Native Americans, Africans, and Iberians. In 1898, following the Spanish–American War, the United States acquired Puerto Rico along with other Spanish colonies under the terms of the Treaty of Paris.
Puerto Ricans are by law natural-born citizens of the United States and may move freely between the island and the mainland. As it is not a state Puerto Rico does not have a vote in the United States Congress, which governs the territory with full jurisdiction under the Puerto Rico Federal Relations Act of 1950. As a U.S. territory, American citizens residing on the island are disenfranchised at the national level and do not vote for president and vice president of the United States. Congress approved a local constitution, allowing U.S. citizens on the territory to elect a governor. A 2012 referendum showed a majority (54% of those who voted) disagreed with the present form of territorial status, with full statehood the preferred option among those who voted for a change of status, although a significant number of people did not answer the second question of the referendum. Another fifth referendum was held on June 11, 2017, with Statehood and Independence/Free Association initially as the only available choices. At the recommendation of the Department of Justice, an option for the current territorial status was added. The referendum showed an overwhelming support for statehood, with 97.18% voting for it, although the voter turnout had a historically low figure of only 22.99% of the registered voters casting their ballots.
In early 2017, the Puerto Rican government-debt crisis posed serious problems for the government. The outstanding bond debt had climbed to $70 billion at a time with 12.4% unemployment. The debt had been increasing during a decade long recession. This was the second major financial crisis to affect the island after the Great Depression when the U.S. government, in 1935, provided relief efforts through the Puerto Rico Reconstruction Administration. On May 3, 2017, Puerto Rico's financial oversight board in the U.S. District Court for Puerto Rico filed the debt restructuring petition which was made under Title III of PROMESA. By early August 2017, the debt was $72 billion with a 45% poverty rate.
Old San Juan, Puerto Rico - Castillo de San Cristóbal HD (2013)
The Castillo de San Cristóbal is a Spanish fort in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was built by Spain to protect against land based attacks on the city of San Juan. It is part of San Juan National Historic Site.
Castillo de San Cristóbal is the largest fortification built by the Spanish in the New World. When it was finished in 1783, it covered about 27 acres of land and basically wrapped around the city of San Juan. Entry to the city was sealed by San Cristóbal's double gates. After close to one hundred years of relative peace in the area, part of the fortification (about a third) was demolished in 1897 to help ease the flow of traffic in and out of the walled city.
This fortress was built on a hill originally known as the Cerro de la Horca or the Cerro del Quemadero, which was changed to Cerro de San Cristóbal in celebration of the Spanish victories ejecting English and Dutch interlopers from the island of this name in the Lesser Antilles, then forming part of the insular territorial glacis of Puerto Rico.

Driving in Viejo San Juan
Old San Juan is such a beautiful place, but very very hard to find parking... With a BMW 328 which is not a big car, takes me a lot of exercises to fit the car in a small tight paralel parking. I must keep one sticker in the windshield, to Identify myself as someone who lives in the historical area.

Color Grading & Editing - The Black Magic Camera shoots video in raw format so it needs to be color graded. This I am learning for sure. I use Speedgrade from Adobe. All my videos are edited in Adobe Premiere.
Memory Cards - The BMPCC requires very highspeed SD memory cards. Just be aware of that. I use 95mb/s Sandisk Extreme cards.
Light - Amazing LED Light
Tripod - I use something very basic. It is rather old and I film mostly inside so it can be kind of light. Here is a link to something similar. If you plan on filming outside don’t use this and get something more sturdy.
Drawing Board - This is a portable drafting table I have had for over 15 years from Alvin.
Pens - I love these pens.

From the Civil War until the first World War , the United States was viewed as being in a relative state of peace, with a great expansion in both industry and economics that paved the way to the future. However, one event during that so called time of peace propelled the United States from there realitvly isolated position to the first real assertion of global influence. The Spanish-American war.
The Spanish American war saw the last vestige of the Spanish colonial empire essentially ripped away from them in war. Losing the profitable colonies of Cuba, and the Phillipines.
