Georgia - Kuchma Received By Shevardnadze
Ukranian president Leonid Kuchma arrived on Monday (9/1) in
Tbilisi to pay his first official visit to Georgia. The president
and his large entourage, including the minister of the power
industry and minister of foreign economic relations, was met by
Georgian president Eduard Shevardnadze.

Georgia - Shevardnadze Running For President
Georgian leader Eduard Shevardnadze made his first public
appearance on Wednesday (30/8) a day after surviving an
assassination attempt. Speaking on State television he announced
that he would be running for president this autumn and slammed
his attackers saying it was the desperate act of people who have
no other way now. Later he attended a rally for some 4,000
people in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. Protected by hundreds of
heavily armed security men, he appeared tired but defiant.

During the 5th World Folklore Dance Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia, Aylan Azerbaijani Folk Dance Group performed several folklore choreographs including TOVLAMA and JUTJU and received the 3rd prize from the jury.

گروه آیینی آذربایجانی آیلان در پنجمین دوره المپیاد جهانی رقص فلکلور در باتومی گرجستان، کورئوگرافی‌های مختلفی را اجرا کرد که از جمله آن‌ها می‌توان به «توولاما» و «جتجو» اشاره کرد. در نهایت گروه آیینی آیلان موفق به کسب جایزه مقام سوم از هیئت داوری شد.

Restorers discover yet unknown frescos in Nikortsminda
Restorers discover yet unknown frescos in Nikortsminda

Yet unknown frescos were discovered on the walls of the Nikortsminda Church, village Nikortsminda, Racha Region. Restorers think the wall paintings date back to the 16-th century.
The National Agency of the Cultural Heritage will carry out the conservation works of the newly discovered frescos later this year. The complete rehabilitation of the church will begin this year.
