The Hollywood Mafia
In 1934, George Browne became President of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. Backed by the Chicago Outfit, Browne's right hand man was a convicted pimp named Willie Bioff. Using their Mafia allies, the two fought radicals seeking to organise workers in Hollywood. This won them the support of studio bosses such as Jack Warner and Columbia's Harry Cohn, already connected to organised crime. On the back of this, the Los Angeles Mafia established an outpost on the West Coast, which has persisted into the 21st century.
By the time that Browne came to lead the IATSE, the relationship between labour racketeer and employer was already established. In New York, home of the American Mafia, radicals in the Garment District and Brooklyn docks were harassed by goon squads. Seeking to replicate this success, the Chicago Outfit began to muscle their way into local unions. A key ally was the International Brotherhood Transfers, who would soon call them for help with militant Local 544. Another was the Building Services Employees International Union, which is believed to be how the Mob first got into the Alliance via George Scalise.
Whether it was through Scalise or Harry Cohn, the Mafia moved quickly into Hollywood, offering its services to the rich and famous. However, this was based on the rough and tumble world of the labour racket, which relied on a mutual enemy between gangster and employer. Without this, the deal turns into simple extortion, an unacceptable cost to a Capitalist enterprise.
As the story goes, an unnamed Columbia executive approached the police in the early 1940s. It is unclear whether this was part of a concerted effort to drive the Mafia from Hollywood, or simply the lone action of someone not important enough to know how movies were actually put to film. Either way, Browne and Bioff were indicted along with a host of Mobsters.
The defendants included Frank Nitti, reputed boss of the Chicago Outfit. It has since became clear that Nitti was likely a puppet of Paul Ricca, unnamed in the Hollywood extortion case. As front boss, Nitti was expected to take the hit, potentially up to 15 years in prison. Instead, he was found on the railroad tracks near his house with two bullet wounds in his head. The death was officially ruled a suicide, yet dryer questions remain whether Nitti, who had recently remarried, may have agreed to speak to police, which risked unraveling the whole sordid deal between the Mafia and the studio moguls.
The trial continued without Nitti, unable to defend himself against charges of being the Mr Big of the Hollywood racket. Co-accused such as John Roselli served short prison terms, released in 1947 to quietly return to their lives of crime.
By this point, workers in the entertainment industry had been free to organise without gangsters breathing down their necks. Without them, the Conference of Studio Unions, a radical rival of the IATSE, surged into the gap. By 1945, they had had won over an IATSE local made up of set designers at Warner Brothers, who refused to recognise their defection. This led to a strike, which soon got out of hand and forced Warner to come to the table.
This was the context in which the Hollywood Reporter's editor, William R. Wilkerson, wrote the column that sparked the Second Red Scare. Despite his key role in the national phenomenon, Wilkerson had more immediate concerns on his mind, specifically the cost of building Las Vegas' Flamingo casino. A known gambler, he soon reached out to the Mob, who dispatched Benny Siegel to monitor their investment. Although Siegel would soon be murdered, the Flamingo would be key to the creation of the modern Vegas, a sign of the Mafia's turn away from the labour racket.
With the nationwide decline of working class militancy, union corruption had become an expensive anachronism. However, this did not mean that the Mafia as a whole was now useless to the American state. In 1960, the Central Intelligence Agency approached John Roselli and Sam Giancana, the new front boss of the Outfit, to serve as the connection with Mobsters burned by the government of Fidel Castro. According to official CIA history, the plan was to somehow smuggle a poison into Castro's food. In reality, the relationship was likely to have been more complex, relating to alliances with right-wing elements of organised crime, particularly the drug trade in Latin America. Whatever the truth, only a few people ever knew it for sure. This included Roselli and Giancana, who both turned up murdered amidst a Senatorial subcommittee which had subpoenaed the two for testimony into their work with the CIA.

Puppet show @ Fort Langley National Historic Site, BC, Canada
Puppet show and other fun activities for kids during our trip to Fort Langley National Historic Site -- the birthplace of British Columbia -- in Langley, BC, Canada on National Parks Day on July 17, 2010.
The Fort Langley trading post was established in the early 19th century by the Hudson's Bay Company to trade fur with the First Nations of the West Coast. The trading post grew and lead to the creation of the Crown Colony of British Columbia.
The Hudson's Bay Company shipped furs to Europe through Cape Horn, produce traded to Russians in Alaska, local cranberries found their way to California, and Fraser River salmon sent as far away as Hawaii.
Rumours of a gold rush on the Fraser River caused a huge influx of Americans to the area around 1858. And on on Nov. 19, 1858, James Douglas proclaimed British Columbia a Crown Colony fearing annexation by the United States.

First off, I sure wish the Net would switch over to Unicode so I could type Vietnamese characters.
Second, I wish I knew exactly what the proper title and artist of this piece is. I tend to choose what track to upload at the last minute in a first thought, best thought fashion. If I had decided on upoading this last week, say, I would have had the foresight to nab a translation. (There's still time.) Despite that, I'm reasonably sure this is an example of cai luong, a classical type of Vietnamese theater music played on traditional instruments. The record dates from the mid- to late 20s, as far as I can tell.
Beka was sold to Columbia in 1926, although the Beka imprint seemed to last at least until the early 1930s. The company made at least 140 recordings in Vietnam, and had a considerable presence in Asia throughout the early part of the century, having begun to record there since ca. 1906, when they first landed in Hong Kong.
The singers are accompanied by a bamboo flute (either the sao, or the tieu), a bowed instrument (probably a dan gao or dan nhi), and a plucked lute of some kind.

Iraq Puppet Regime SOFA-agreement-as-Defense-Treaty Scam 7
House Oversight Committee: U.S. Policy Toward Iraq; February 7, 2008
Part 007
The Bush Administration--behind the back of the U.S. Congress--signs agreements with puppet, non-democratic, Moslem Shia factionocracy Al-Maliki regime to defend them from internal rivals and outside threats to beholden the U.S. stay in Iraq permanently so favored corporations can make money off their oil resources and gullible U.S. taxpayers paying them for security services. A U.S. capitalist (neocon) version of the Soviet Communists forcing others to stay in the Warsaw Pact at gunpoint. Dr. Macgregor and legal experts show that a Status Of Forces (SOFA) Agreement is NOT a defense treaty but a U.S. employee overseas behavior/disciplinary arrangement; exposing the Bush administration's scam for trying to back-door without Congressional approval--a permanent U.S. occupation of Iraq by sneaking such wording into a place where it doesn't belong and might not be detected by public oversight. The whole world now knows of this ploy.

The International Organizations, Human Rights, and Oversight Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee held a hearing titled The November 26 Declaration of Principles: Implications for U.N. Resolutions on Iraq and for Congressional Oversight. Witnesses testified about the nature of the long-term relationship with Iraq proposed by the administration. Topics included whether such an agreement was a status of forces agreement or a defense treaty that would require congressional approval.
The subcommittee will also hear additional testimony from a military expert on status of forces agreement and from lawyers who are experts on international agreements and the approval process, within both the executive and the Congress, for various types of such agreements.

Under The Spell Of Hollywood Part 2
Please use this video to wake up friends and family from the spell they are under. The whole worlds a stage and they have tricked all of us. All world leaders, religious heads, rich, and famous are being controlled by Lucifer/Satan. They are collectors of souls.
They willingly gave their lives over to Lucifer so they could have their treasures here on earth. They are required to trick as many as they can into following them into the pit as part of their agreement with the devil.
Under The Spell Of Hollywood Part 1 -
Time is short. Choose now who will you serve. Jesus Christ who will give you everlasting life or Satan who hates humanity and wants to see us all destroyed.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 1 Timothy 1:15
I use to walk in the darkness myself. Jesus pulled me out of the fire after 30+ years of living in this wicked world. - SMH
Remember what Jesus said: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Luke 5:32
