Arrival of columbus(JAMAICA)
Arawaks Before the Arrival of Columbus
The history of Jamaica started long before the arrival of Columbus in 1494. Jamaica island was inhabited by Arawaks for hundreds of years or even more. They lived a simple life in small community based on fishing, hunting, and small scale cultivation. The arrival of Spanish led by Columbus opened the door of the island to the world, but the economic activities also brought new diseases that destroyed native Arawaks small communities in a few decades. The trace of early Arawaks life, today, can only be seen in a few artifacts-facts displayed at the small museum at White Marl.

Mermaids are mythical creatures that have had a major presence in our society for quite some time. Little girls dream of becoming mermaids. Well, actually, there are adults who dream about becoming mermaids too! From story books to movies, mermaids are half human from the waist up and half-fish from the waist down. Throughout history, there have been sightings of mermaids in personal journals of sailors and voyagers like Christopher Columbus. But today, it is believed that Columbus may have actually been looking at manatees, not mermaids. Either way, it doesn’t diminish the fact that we, as a society, care deeply about mermaids and want them to be real so badly! While we still wait for that first emergence, people have created life-size replicas and even faux documentaries of mermaids that have convinced us that they are real. There are also cases of real people sitting on rocks in mermaid costumes, like the Active Pass mermaid in British Columbia, Victoria, Canada. When enough people are involved in the hoax, almost anything is possible.
In this video, we will introduce to you some stories of mermaids that have been caught on camera and spotted in real life. Thanks to Animal Planet’s Mermaids: The Body Found, people thought mermaids actually existed. But in reality, the network used creative CGI and amazing special effects to make it look all the more convincing. There are more hoaxes where that came from, so get ready! If anything, these stories prove just how gullible we still are as a society.

SMITHSONIAN: Caribbean Indigenous Legacies Project 12 2013
The Caribbean Indigenous Legacies Project explores the culture, history, and legacy of the indigenous peoples of the Caribbean islands. In particular, this project focuses on the Taíno, the inhabitants of Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas, who were the first Native American people to encounter, as well as to resist (often with the help of enslaved Africans), Spanish colonization after 1492. This initiative offers new perspectives on the Taíno and related neighboring ethnic groups prior to European contact using the Smithsonian’s first-rate (yet rarely studied or displayed) archeological collections, while it explores and contextualizes the growing attention to indigeneity currently emerging in the Caribbean, and in U.S. communities of Caribbean origin.
This project is a collaboration between the Smithsonian Latino Center, the National Museum of the American Indian, the National Museum of Natural History and an international, interdisciplinary network of scholars. An exhibition on the Taíno legacy is planned for 2014 in the George Gustav Heye Center of the National Museum of the American Indian. A public program series initiated in 2011 will continue through the exhibition opening, and plans for a traveling exhibition will be evaluated in the future.

Bob Marley Mausoleo Nine mile
Sus canciones más conocidas son: 'No Woman No Cry' 'One Love' 'I Shoot The Sheriff' 'Redemption Songs' y 'Could You Be Loved' entre otras.

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the end of service on the Myrtle Avenue Elevated line, the NYTM sponsored a fan trip on the Brooklyn Union Elevated Gate Cars that ran between Essex street, 111th street, and Metropolitan Avenue on the J and M lines.
Due to the nature of wooden car operations and the age of the BUs themselves, the R9s are also present to tow the BUs underground and serve as the protection train while the BUs are on the Jamaica and Myrtle Els. Enjoy the action, and remember the best is saved for last ;)
