The History of Stonehenge for Kids: Stonehenge for Children - FreeSchool
Stonehenge is an ancient stone circle in England north of Salisbury. Believed to be between 4,000 and 5,000 years old (making it older than the pyramids of Giza!) Stonehenge has puzzled visitors for thousands of years. Because no written record exists to tell us about its purpose or construction, what we know about it has been pieced together by archaeologists.

Lyrics
Hey hey we are the UK
that’s an abbreviation for our name
The United Kingdom
It’s the same
This song is about the
UK’s countries and capitals
And 1 Province
Now let the knowledge flow
I am England
A UK country
I have a capital
named London
in the east is where I be
Shakespeare and the Beatles
were born in me
They were all great Icons
in our worlds History
My capital is
Home the Tower of London
and to Parliament which is attached
to the clock tower Big Ben
I’m Northern Ireland
a province of the UK
My capital’s named Belfast
touching the Belfast Bay
I was created on May 3rd
in 1921
When Ireland was partitioned
by the British Parliament
Rory McIlroy, Joey Dunlop and
Van Morrison
Where just a few of the talents from
my province
Hey hey we are the UK
that’s an abbreviation for our name
The United Kingdom
It’s the same
This song is about the
UK’s countries and capitals
And 1 Province
Now let the knowledge flow
I’m Scotland
My capital’s Edinburgh
A country covering the North 1/3 of the island Great Britain that I’m sure
I share a border with England
to the south
And I’m surrounded by the Atlantic, North Sea
and the Celtic Sea down
Home to Edinburgh castle
and Wallace Monument
and the Pictish Stone
referred to as the Stone of the serpent
Hi there I’m Wales
My capital’s Cardiff
I am a country in the UK
and I’m glad you just learned this
I’m on the West of the Island
Great Britain
With 1680 miles of coastline
which is mostly mountains
Home to Caernarfon and
Dolwyddelan Castle
And my language is Welsh and English
and that is official
Hey hey we are the UK
that’s an abbreviation for our name
The United Kingdom
It’s the same
This song is about the

And 1 Province
Now let the knowledge flow
Hey hey we are the UK

The Legendary 'Sword in The Stone' IS REAL & You Can Visit It
The sword in the stone is a well known tale about a boy who pulled a sword out of a stone and eventually became king of England. But there is actually a different story that could be the inspiration behind the British legend.

SCOTLAND: STONE OF SCONE IS RETURNED AFTER 700 YEARS IN UK
English/Nat
A symbol of Scotland's ancient nationhood, the Stone of Destiny, has been returned to Scotland 700 years after England took it south as a spoil of war.
The sandstone slab was handed over by the Duke of York amid ceremonial fanfare at Edinburgh Castle on Saturday - Saint Andrew's Day, the Patron Saint of Scotland.
The Stone of Destiny, or the Stone of Scone, is the ancient coronation stone of Scotland's kings.
The Stone of Destiny emerged from Edinburgh's Palace of Holyrood House in a spectacular procession for Saturday's formal handover in Edinburgh Castle by the Duke of York.
The proud symbol of Scotland's ancient nationhood passed along the Royal Mile watched by thousands in a procession led by a Royal Marines band and mounted Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.
The procession was led by limousines carrying Scotland's Commissioners of the Regalia and magnificently clad officers of state.
The stone was carried on the back of a specially-adapted open-topped army Landrover, protected from the elements by a perspex screen.
In a limousine behind was the Queen's representative Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, in navy uniform.
A following car carried Scottish Secretary Michael Forsyth, whose idea it was to return the stone to Scotland.
The stone is being returned to Scotland after it was taken south in 1296 by England's King Edward, Hammer of the Scots.
And most people who watched the historic event were pleased to see the stone back at home.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Well, it's just a part of history coming back to Scotland where it belongs. So it's exciting for us as Americans to be part of that.
SUPER CAPTION: Anne Magee, Scottish American tourist
SOUNDBITE: (English)
The Stone of destiny has nothing to do with parliament. The Stone of Destiny is to do with our heritage. As far as the history of Scotland is concerned, the Stone of Destiny goes way back further than even the kings of Scotland.
SUPER CAPTION: Tom Wells, Scotsman
SOUNDBITE: (English)
We've been waiting for 700 years for the stone to come back, and it's the symbol of our sovereignty, as a nation, and I look forward to the sovereignty coming back in reality when we have our own parliament.
SUPER CAPTION: Andrew Hume, Scotsman
Members of Scotland's ancient Wallace clan were also in favour of the stone coming home.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Q: What do you think of the return of the stone? Do you think that's a good thing?
If it's looked upon as a step in the direction of recognising us as an independent culture, yeh.
SUPER CAPTION: Charlie Alland, Wallace clansman
The Saltire flag of Scotland flew proudly over Edinburgh Castle as the ancient coronation stone of Scotland's kings was borne through the capital.
Inside Edinburgh Castle, the Duke of York officially handed the stone over to the Scottish Secretary.
UPSOUND: I now therefore, on behalf of her majesty the Queen, place the Stone of Scone in the care of you, the commissioners for the keeping of the regalia of Scotland.
The Duke of York then presented the Scottish Secretary with the warrant for the Stone of Scone.
The secretary said the stone would be taken back to Westminster Abbey in London whenever there was a coronation.
UPSOUND: The continuation of this tradition is an essential element of the return to Scotland of the stone, and as her majesty's warrant states, it is our duty to make appropriate arrangements to ensure that in all future coronations in Westminster Abbey, successors of her majesty as sovereigns of the United Kingdom shall be crowned seated upon the Stone of Destiny.
The ceremony was followed by a 21-gun salute from the castle.

Little mouse in a stone built house .watch for the little head to the left
George the mouse in a log pile house What would you do if you found a family of mice roaming around your garden? I’m sure a lot of people would reach out for a bit of cheese and a mousetrap or let your cats wander around for a bit. However, if you’re Simon Dell, you turn the situation into the perfect photo opportunity. Wildlife photographer Simon Dell from Sheffield, United Kingdom, seized the opportunity to capture some beautiful photographs of these tiny little creatures. But he knew he had to entice the little mice to come towards him, so he built them a little set piece to capture their attention. And it worked! It wasn’t long before the family of mice moved in, and they love their new home.Simon built the little mice a home made up of old fruit, vegetables, and props from around his house and the results are all too adorable. To get the eye-catching imagery that he wanted, Simon created little houses for the two mice he named George and Mildred and for their little baby, Mini. He managed to entice them with nuts and berries that he kindly left for the tiny little mice. He would pick the nuts and berries on his walk around a nature reserve near his home in Sheffield. Since then, Simon has grown very fond of the little mouse family and regularly updates their tiny village. This adorable little mouse family is very lucky to have such a kind landlord in Simon. be sure to visit the Mouses very own facebook page for more images and daily updates you can also buy printed items of the mice

Iron, copper, silver, tin and lead have all been mined in England, but with the high price of gold in recent years there has been increasing interest in gold from casual prospectors. Stonehenge and Avebury Stone Circles, England
Visiting Stonehenge and Avebury, England. One of the world's most magical and mysterious places, Stonehenge, in the southwest of England, is nearly 5000 years old.
And there are still many questions about what it was used for. Although it's believed that for 1500 years people were worshiping their gods here and most likely using it as an astronomical calendar that marked the arrival of the summer and winter seasons.
Stonehenge was created so long ago that the culture that built it left no written record.
So there are many mysteries, which of course is part of the magnetic charm of this monumental site. What was it for? Who built it? And, when was it in use?
Another reason the site is so interesting is just the physical beauty of the stones and their elegant arrangement in concentric circles of standing stones, some of them connected at the top by horizontal lintels, and the massive size of these rocks that were carried here from far away.
This tour was organized for us by
a company operating out of the city of Bath. And the itinerary also includes a visit to Avebury, which has the largest prehistoric stone circle in the world.
The stones at Avebury are not as big as those at Stonehenge. And also they are not carved into shape. These are natural rocks that were just hacked out of a quarry and dragged here. The total impression is one of the vast size and great beauty.
The circle is about 1200 feet in diameter, and while many of the original stones have been plundered and looted, they're gone. From the late medieval and early modern periods, centuries ago, people destroyed many of the standing stones and reused them for construction purposes. We still have enough left to show the original significance of the amazing site.

One-of-a-kind act Stones N' Roses have been booked to play the 2017 Manchester Fringe Festival in July and are quickly securing dates all over the United Kingdom for a 10-day tour. Possibly the most unique UK coverband to ever come from America, naturally, the group dresses up as Guns n Roses, plays Stone Roses perfectly then mixes it with bits of Rolling Stones and GnR classics ( The Roses' songs have never been covered better but it's the seamless mashups and medleys that make it revolutionary and ridiculous enough to warrant crossing the pond for.
SnR is the latest in the ever-changing, long-running San Diego project Cover Me Badd, fronted by Adam Gimbel. Past CMB projects have included such UK-centric bands as the Oasis parody the Fookin' Wankers, Smiths/Cure/Depeche Mode metal mashuppers Blasphemous Guitars, the ska-tastic .38 Specials Education and the modestly named Beatles US before aging gracefully into the elderly musical comedy act Geezer (GetOffOfMyLawn.com).
Given their tongue-in-cheek past, the Manchester sections that make up most of the Stones n' Roses set are shockingly reverent. Singer Ian Brownstone gets as close to Ian Brown as any of the top Stone Roses tribute bands in the UK but the backing band, with its twin guitar attack is beyond any Roses covers ever played. Longtime UK-indie fans Tim Peacock and Michael Ortiz are treading familiar territory but, to round out the band, SnR fittingly drafted two Smiths (Brad Smith and Josh Smith) and converted them into instant Roses fans. The latter Smith toured the US as a teen School of Rock all=star several times but wasn't even alive when the band's classic debut was released in 1989.
While audiences in the US have enjoyed watching a schizophonic singer switch between the moves of Jagger, Brown and Rose and hearing Welcome To The Jungle smash right into I Wanna Be Adored, the Roses songs are mostly lost on Americans. The few in the know repeatedly declared it the greatest thing they'd ever witnessed, making it destiny to be appreciated on British soil. Their debut video, Mersey Paradise City/Water n' Fall, was shared by popular music site Slicing Up Eyeballs and 30,000 sets of eyes worldwide watched on its very first day. Rave reviews have come from all around the globe from just a small preview.
One thing is for sure, the band has to be seen to be truly appreciated. Soon, the UK will become the first nation to truly witness the full power of Stones n' Roses.
Stomp in crying BLASPHEMY, stumble away gasping Brilliant.
The best thing I've seen in ten years.....maybe ever.
-Kelly Davis, San Diego City Beat Weekly
The Stone Roses meet Guns 'N Roses meet the Rolling Stones. This may well be just what the world is waiting for.
-Slicing Up Eyeballs
Gobsmacked.
-Stone Roses producer John Leckie
An unreasonably thrilling, hilarious and altogether genius affair. A gutsy re-imagining of rock and roll history played with verve, nerve and heart.
-Alex Green, author of 33 1/3, The Stone Roses & StereoEmbersMagazine.com

A History of Britain - The Humans Arrive (1 Million BC - 8000 BC)
In this first episode we go back to the very beginning of human life of Britain.
Note: The exact identity of the human species found at Happisburgh is a little more up in the air than this video makes it sound. Currently academic consensus looks to be moving towards Homo antecessor as the correct identity, however the stone tools found at Pakefield and Boxgrove are almost certainly from Homo heidelbergensis. This was simplified to Homo heidelbergensis in the video for the sake of brevity. Homo heidelbergensis may also have been ambush predators on top of scavengers and fishers.
