Shirakawago Travel Guide (白川郷) | Most Beautiful Place We Visited in Japan

Join us on a day trip to Shirakawago in this travel guide as we explore the most beautiful place we visited in Japan. Shirakawa-go (白川郷) is known for its traditional Japanese farmhouses (gassho) - also known as the praying hand houses for its a-frame shape - in a valley surrounded by mountains. The trip from Takayama was approximately 50 minutes away and cost roughly $20 USD per person.

Our first stop in Shirakawa was the observatory where we had sweeping panoramic views of the incredible architecture and mountains from a high vantage point which cost 200 Yen per person for the local bus. In terms of getting back down, we decided to walk which ended up being a great idea.

Walking around Shirakawago Village you notice houses, shops, rice paddies, and people out doing laundry. We visited in summer; however, every season offers a unique atmosphere in the village. Something fascinating is that cold drinks are refrigerated with mountain running water and trash is to be carried and disposed of by guests.

To cool down we grabbed our first bite which was a refreshing green-tea matcha ice cream for 350 Yen per person. Our next stop was the outdoor open-air museum (600 Yen per person), which ended up being one of our favorite attractions, visiting temples and crossing bridges along the way. We grabbed soba and tempura for lunch.

In the open air museum we visited waterfalls, streams and gassho houses. We ended up just hopping from farmhouse to farmhouse to call down enjoying some free tea along the way.

We visited the Old Fujisaki House where it was free and cool inside.

Shirakawago Travel Guide (白川郷) | Most Beautiful Place We Visited in Japan:

Hey guys! We are Samuel and Audrey, a vlogging travel couple from Canada. In this travel channel we share our travel and food vlogs while touring the world. Our most recent trip was to Japan where we spent 2 months traveling around the country and visiting the following destinations: Osaka, Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Nikko, Takayama, Yokohama, Odaiba, Shirakawa-gō and Takao.

During our stay, we visited a mixture of big cities and small rural towns, where we enjoyed eating Japanese street food, trying traditional Japanese cuisine, visiting local attractions and staying in unique accommodations (such as capsule hotels and ryokans) that we are now going to share with you on this channel. The combination and contrast of visiting futuristic cities and traditional countryside areas is what makes travel to Japan so fascinating. Ultra modern versus traditional. This is the essence of Japan.

Our trip to Japan was unforgettable and until now it is one of our favorite countries that we have come to know. However, we only feel as though we just scratched the surface on this trip to Japan. Japanese Village, Hamlet & Neighborhood

The Japanese village is a very old unit of community with true origins extending well into pre-history. However, during the long and peaceful Edo period (1600-1868) the government of the Tokugawa Shoguns established a very well defined system of national and local communities which included defined hamlets (ooaza or ri), villages (mura), counties (gun) and fiefs which were controlled by regional samurai leaders called Daimyo (literally big names). Hamlets were further divided into smaller communities of associated homes called buraku which might be thought of as neighborhoods, though this English term falls short of capturing the true depth and association of this particular type of Japanese community. The buraku unit of community was never officially recognized by the Edo government and represents a natural community subdivision reflective of the social character of the Japanese people. The residents of Buraku may trace their lineage to a common ancestor, though intermarriage within the Buraku is uncommon with wives typically being brought in from nearby communities. Buraku in the past were sometimes organized around a leading family who often passed this role from one generation to the next. These leading families were sometimes the households of former samurai who were reduced to becoming farmers after their side lost during the wars of consolidation leading up to the start of the Edo period. These families are today often still prominent within the small communities of rural Japan.

After the end of the Edo period the government under the leadership of the Meiji emperor re-organized the old feudal territories and effectively redrew the administrative map of Japan. One of the most extensive changes was the consolidation of nearly seventy thousand Edo-era villages (mura) into just fourteen thousand modern villages. The new villages were much larger than the old and included previously disparate communities. These larger village units are still in place today though the change has not caused the consolidated communities (at least those in the countryside) to merge in any non-civic way and most of the hamlets and buraku in Japan retain their original local character and unique sense of identity.

郡上八幡は清流と名水の城下町と言われ、町中の至る所に美しい水が流れています。中でも宗疎水は「日本名水百選」の第１号に指定されたことで有名になった湧水です。またよく写真で紹介される「やなか水のこみち」や、錦鯉が泳ぐ「いがわこみち」、あるいは歴史的な町並みや郡上八幡城など、心休まる観光スポットが点在します。

Gujyo Hachiman is located in Gifu Prefecture and is near from Shirakawa-go the world heritage。It is famous for clean water wells up many portions of town. You can see the golden carps swimming in a brook.

Technology Promotion Association (Thailand-Japan)

Technology Promotion Association (Thailand-Japan), or TPA, was officially
established on the 24th of January 1973 with the strong intention, co-operation, and
sacrifice of the Japanese alumni and those who were trained in Japan with the ABK (the
Asia Bunka Kaikan) and AOTS (the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship)
scholarships. Mr. Sommai Huntrakul, the Finance Minister at that time, was the president
of the establishing committee. The establishment succeeded with the kind support
of Professor Goichi Hozumi, the former president of the board of Japan-Thailand
Economic Co-operation Association, of which the objective is to be the centre
for promoting knowledge, disseminating and transmitting new technology to
Thai personnel for the growth and advancement of the Thai economy and
industry. TPA has continually grown and developed as well as accumulated
expertise in providing services. These services include arrangement of
curricula for seminars, training, self-learning, credit transfer in universitylevel
education, consulting in the field of technology, quality, environment,
safety and management, diagnosis of enterprises, calibration and
environmental analysis services, school of language and culture, business
and technology development, and expertise in producing texts for foreign
language and culture learning, books for self-development as well as
academic journals and texts on technology and quality.

At present, TPA has three offices, that is, the head office located
on Sukhumvit Soi 29, Technology Promotion Institute building located on
Pattanakarn Road, Soi 18, and School of Language and Culture, Zeer Rangsit
branch. Service activities are divided into the following departments:
• Education, Training, Diagnosis and Consultancy as follows:
• Public and in-house training
• Domestic and foreign educational tours
• Self-learning by distance-learning programs (SANNO University in Japan) and
e-books
• Credit transfer in university-level higher education by training
• Diagnosis (Shindan) of enterprises
• Consultancy
• Technology Information Center
• Center for standard testing and measurement of human resources performance in
enterprises at all levels, both in service and industrial sections to support professional
qualification • School of Language and Culture • Calibration and Environment Testing Center • Publishing Department and Book Store • Business and Technology Development • Corporate Communication and Marketing

Besides these services, TPA also arranges various activities to fulfill corporate
social responsibility: TPA robot contests for secondary to higher education levels, language
and culture festivals (exhibitions), contests that reward achievements and organizations,
i.e. Thailand 5S Award, Thailand Lean Award, KANO Quality Award, Thailand Quality Prize
and Thailand Kaizen Award.

This is Shimabara City, in Nagasaki. Those are not drainage canals, they are streams of natural spring water. Even the larger river in the final picture is fed by natural springs. I lived on the banks of this river about a mile above this picture, and it was usually dry up there, but flowing in town. The more picturesque, wider sections of stream are on Carp Street, which is a tourist attraction.
Most of the the springs are cold (my bank had a natural drinking water spring in the parking lot), and though there are a few hot springs, there are no decent onsen in town. Which is fine, because it's a half-hour drive to Unzen, which has great onsen.
The reason for these springs is Mount Unzen. Some might remember Shimabara from the eruptions in 1991, which devestated the south side of town, and killed 43 people.

I came here for my winter wonderland but there is no snow, well, except on the mountain. But it's still nice to walk around the town to see houses with very thick roof made from... stuff I don't know but just very special haha...

Harie kabata water springs in Shin-Asahi, Takashima, Shiga 針江生水の郷（川端）

Shin-Asahi in Takashima, Shiga Prefecture, Japan has a neighborhood called Harie where homes draw crystal-clear water from an ever-flowing spring directly from the ground into kitchen wells called kabata. A local non-profit group called Harie Shozu-no-Sato Committee conducts tours of the area offering a look at the wonderful kabata in private homes. Tours cost 1,000 yen per person for 90 min. Satoyama-Taiwan's Tenuous Dance with Nature

Ting-feng Liu and several generations of his forebears have farmed and made their life here in this highland village in Central Taiwan for well over a century.
This century of experience taught respect for seasonal rhythms, created sustainable synergies with nature and promoted interdependence with the land.
It transformed Lishan into a beautiful patchwork of paddy fields, ponds, and forests. When the highway came to this once remote rural area, it unhinged Lishan's finely tuned sustainability and diluted man's relationship with the land.
However, the discovery of the Taiwan giant water bug in Lishan changed things here once again, for the better.

Koi Fish At Street Canals In Japan | Kanal sa Japan, Sobrang Linis | Yuuri ゆうり

We had a short time to go a little walking at the streets near our house. We live in Sunto Gun, Shimizu Cho in Shizuoka, Japan by the way. Japan is very well known for having a clean surroundings. Hence, the video is an example. If in other countries, there are trash and very dirty water on their street canals and drainage, in Japan it’s the very opposite. Here, you can see koi fishes and ducks living on it. Yes, you can feed them. Sometimes we bring breads for them. Also, the water is clear. So if you are travelling to Japan and have a spare time, you must find and see those canals and drainages for yourself. Indeed, Japan is very amazing.

THE PATH OF WILDNESS

The Path of Wildness is easy to find
The course of a stream
Leaves blown in the wind
A beast's track through the brush
And the direction of our first inclination

The Path of Wildness is an answer and response to a prescribed way of life which may leave some individuals with a sense that their living is little more than a series of pre-determined, step-like episodes between birth and death. The stages of living between these events: childhood, adolescence, adulthood, parenthood and senior are themselves natural and in accord with the needs of the species and most individuals. Many find their satisfaction in living this course and to these individuals I have little or nothing to say. Others though long for something more; something innate, genetic and seemingly calling. Adventure and change can give a degree of satisfaction and relief yet even these may seem too tame. To those who feel drawn to something beyond the entertainment and stimulation of senses I offer a walk along The Path of Wildness. Don't bother penciling the event in your schedule, preparing a pack with goodies and supplies or even inviting a friend along, for this experience is along the course of your first inclination and you must surely always go alone.

Hagi Town in Yamaguchi Prefecture is rich with art and culture. From its Hagiyaki Pottery, highly praised by the tea ceremony community, to former samurai mansions, visitors can feel Japan’s past in this small quiet town.
Visitors interested in Hagi and Japan’s history are advised to visit the birth house of Kido Takayoshi. Takayoshi is an important Japanese statesman who helped overthrow the Tokugawa family’s 264 year regime to restore the power back to the emperor. Once the new government was formed, Takayoshi became one of the most effective officials in the new government.
His birth home in the Horiuchi quarters in Hagi is a simple, traditional Japanese home. The 250 year old home has many small tatami rooms. There is a small garden as well where a pine tree (over 300 years old) stands.

A cute canal town in Japan---Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture

Kurashiki is a small town with a well-preserved historical atomosphere; thriving as a town of cotton and textile industries in the 17th century, its canal system criss-crossing the town aided the transportation of goods.
It's nice to stroll around the canal and back streets with pretty cafes and shops.

Alps Park is one of Matsumoto's most popular spots for cherry blossom viewing (hanami). The typical timing for best viewing in the average year is mid April. Views of the Japanese Alps can be enjoyed on days with good visibility.
