ARLES, FRANCE: Travel day, a BLIND tasting menu & Maison Volver hotel! | Ep. 32
Today we leave Aix-en-Provence, travel through Marseilles and land in Arles. We stay at our favorite hotel, Maison Volver, hosted by two lovely ladies, Florence and Carol. Their hospitality stole our hearts (and our stomachs...everything there is so delicious!!!) They have perfected their craft and there is no more perfect place in Arles than Hotel Maison Volver.
After a beautiful dinner and a peaceful sleep, we wake and manage to pull ourselves away from the hotel long enough to explore a little bit of what the city has to offer.
For dinner, we dined at Chardon, a must-do while in Arles. They offer a blind tasting menu with visiting chefs from around the world, a concept that we were so pleased we experienced!

The LAB Gallery Presents: Billowing Beauty by Anne Ferrer
For more information call 212.339.2092 or email rogersmitharts@rogersmith.com
Video by John Birdsong
The LAB (for installation + performance art) is pleased to present Paris based artist Anne Ferrer in her first exhibition in New York City. Rooted in her experience of foreignness and the absence of an inherent sense of home, Anne's nomadic and sensorial sculpture is an organically inspired installation that is transportable in a suitcase.
Edward Rubin, the curator of Billowing Beauty, describes it as a lush and sensuous, sensitive and bold, mysteriously animated, Parisian soufflé. Comprised of five exuberantly colored, giant, hand-sewn modules; the installation, breathes, grows, and evolves in slow motion, to the 'lighter than air' music of Los Angeles based composer Carol Worthey. This 'live ballet' brings a continuous element of chaos, surprise and joy, like a floating bubble, or a shimmering shrine, to one of the busiest avenues in New York City.
Anne Ferrer who lives and works in Paris comes from a Catalan family and has grown up in small rural town in south France. She has studied in the US, receiving her BFA from Oklahoma University and her MFA from Yale (1988). Ferrer has shown at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (2002), the Centre Pompidou (2005), France, the Blue Star, San Antonio Texas (2009), the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1996), the Ho Ham Museum in Seoul, la Casa de Americas in Madrid, the French Institute in Rome and Naples, etc, and has recently built a monumental installation for the Dumbo Art Festival in Brooklyn. She has collaborated with Perfumers (International Flavors and Fragrances) as well as pastry chef Jean Paul Hevin, for her multi-sensorial sculptures. Ferrer is currently busy preparing a show for this summer at Chateau d'Avignon, France. anneferrer.com
Composer Carol Worthey combines elements of classical, jazz and world music into an expressive, playful mix that soars and breathes with life and color. Inspired by family friend Leonard Bernstein Carol began composing at three and a half and had a piano work performed in Carnegie Hall when she was ten. Mentored by the likes of Darius Milhaud, Vincent Persichetti, Walter Piston and Otto Luening, she won First Prize in Composition at Columbia and expanded her dimensions at a jazz/arranging school. Her award winning music has been heard in England, Italy, France, Germany, China, Japan, Mexico, Canada, and throughout the United States. She lives in Los Angeles where she is writing a book on the art of composing. carolworthey.com
Edward Rubin, writer, curator, and artists, lives in New York City. His writings on art, culture, and entertainment, appear regularly in such publications as ArtNexus, ArtUS, D'art International, Flash Art, Hispanic Outlook, NYArts and Sculpture Magazines, as well as online at Artes Magazine, Huma3, and NY Theatre Wire. His photographs and collages have been exhibited at the Contemporary Art Museum in Baltimore, Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and at numerous New York City galleries. Currently, his work, part of a group exhibition titled NYC/International Perspectives, has been traveling throughout Germany, Hungary, France and Russia. It opens this June at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art under the title New York - Then and Now. Rubin is on the boards of the International Association of Art Critics, and the American Theatre Critics Association. He is also a member of the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and PEN America Center. erubin5000@aol.com

Restaurant Reviews Los Angeles: Pinot Provence Costa Mesa by Foodie and French Chef Natacha Mannhart.
Pinot Provence is a part of the Patina Restaurant Group. This is quite an organization with some really creative concepts. For example, they have A Day in the Kitchen, where you can create a meal for 8 (with their assistance) in one of their professional kitchens for quite a reasonable price...sounds great (for amateur chefs not working in their kitchens every day ☺). They also offer cooking classes.
I suggest that you get the Group's newsletter because they have events like wine, cheese and meat tasting classes, Tapas Tuesdays, a $30 Gift Card for your birthday, a special wedding menu with a large selection of wedding cakes, and on and on...
Pinot Provence was named the Best French Restaurant in Orange County. This is a warm and cozy place, open all day. A breakfast menu with some freshly baked croissant and homemade preserve buffet is just the ticket for a breakfast business meeting.
A nice Lunch is French Onion soup, Wild Mushroom Risotto or Truffle Mac'n Cheese and Sandwiches-- very efficient and delicious. They also proudly offer an extensive wine list and have been a winner of the Wine Spectator Award 2011.
Their atmosphere is elegant French where you will feel like a Queen and King. Their service is good and attentive. Their food presentations deserve 5 stars, and they also have a lovely patio available for a less crowded experience.
Their Dinner menu is, of course, more elaborate with plates like Foie Gras and Venison. A perfect evening for celebrations, or a romantic evening with someone special, would be a pre-performance dinner followed by attending an event next door at the Performance Art Center.
They have a brunch menu on the weekend and a special truffle week during truffle season. Go there then and you might just think you're in France!Restaurant Reviews Los Angeles :

Chef gastro et street food étoilée - Fast and Good | Ep.3 | ARTE Creative
FAST AND GOOD : Mangez vite, oui mais sain !

Vézelay, France • The Picturesque Town of Vezelay and its Hilltop Basilica
During our cruise we enjoy an excursion to the pilgrimage town of Vézelay, one of Burgundy’s most famous treasures with the Romanesque Basilica of St Mary Magdalene, craft shops and fine views of the surrounding countryside.
Vézelay is an historic hilltop town in the Cure Valley and a Christian shrine. It was the site of the Call to the Second Crusade by St-Bernard in 1146. During the Middle Ages it was a major pilgrimage site and a special stop on the way to Compostella. Pilgrims still stop here on their way to St-Jacques-de-Compostel.
The imposing Roman Basilica of Ste-Madeleine (12th - 13th century) is perched high above the “eternal hill”. The interior, with its immense Christ in Glory, is one of the greatest Romanesque works of art in the west.
What is hotel barging?
Despite the growing popularity of cruising, especiallly on large river vessels, hotel barging is still a little known niche concept. Most hotel barges started life as cargo vessels but have since been painstakingly converted to offer luxury boutique accommodation for small groups of up to 20 passengers.
This is cruising, but in a very different style to ships plying the big rivers or oceans. The pace is slow, with a 6 day cruise covering maybe just 50 miles along a rural canal. Passengers can walk or bike the towpaths as their floating hotel glides gently along. Guests enjoy an intimate atmosphere, high levels of personal service and immersion into the culture, history and gastronomy of regions of Europe such as Burgundy, the Midi, or the Italian Veneto.
Every day there is an excursion, perhaps to a chateau, a vineyard for a wine tasting, or some other ‘off the beaten track’ location. About half of European Waterways’ bookings are for whole boat charters, ideal for families. Otherwise, clients book a cabin to join other like-minded people. A ‘slow boat’ European Waterways barge cruise offers the ultimate in experiential travel. A truly unique experience!
European Waterways offer luxury hotel barge cruises on the beautiful canals and rivers of Europe, such as through Burgundy, the Midi, Alsace, the Po Valley, Holland and the Scottish Highlands.
The exclusive collection of hotel barges accommodate up to 20 passengers who may charter a whole barge with family or friends, or join a small group of like-minded travellers on an individual cabin basis.
Each barge is fully crewed with a Captain, chef, hostesses, deck-hand and tour guide. The 6-night cruises include gourmet meals, fine wines, open bar, excursions and the use of facilities such as bicycles and spa pools.
