Places to see in ( Ancona - Italy )
Ancona is a city on Italy’s Adriatic coast and the capital of the Marche region. It’s known for beaches, such as Passetto Beach, and the hilltop Cathedral of San Ciriaco. In the city center, the Fontana del Calamo is a fountain with bronze masks of mythic figures. In the port are the ancient Arch of Trajan and the Lazzaretto, or Mole Vanvitelliana, an 18th-century pentagonal quarantine station on its own island.
Ancona is a bustling port on the eastern coast of Italy facing the Adriatic Sea. This city lies directly opposite Zadar and is within the Marche region of the country. Furthermore, Ancona is also the capital of the Province of Ancona and has a current population of 101,000. Serving as one of the main ports in the Adriatic, Ancon has an economy based on passenger traffic and commercial shipping. Settled by Greeks around 380 BC, Ancon has always been an important destination and has been part of the Roman Empire, the Lombard Empire and has seen extensive trade with other nations and civilizations across the Adriatic.
As a tourist destination, Ancona benefits from superb weather and has some fantastic beaches serviced by some world class hotels. Furthermore, the whole port area has a fantastic combination of modern facilities and historical buildings such as the Arco di Traiano and the Mole Vanvitelliana. Additionally, this city has some fantastic squares, historical monuments and museums, plus a host of fine restaurants and bars. If you are looking for an exciting and fun packed escape on the Adriatic coast, Ancona is the place to visit
Ancona has an extensive harbour and port and this is a fantastic place to walk through to see the beautiful range of ships and commercial freighters. At the western edge of the port is the Marina – here you can find a host of gorgeous fishing boats, sailing boats and yachts, together with a series of restaurants.
Located on the top of Monte Guasco in the eastern part of Ancona; the Cathedral of Saint Ciriaco is the most iconic religious structure in the city and towers above the surrounding region. A pleasant winding path leads up to the cathedral and there is also a beautiful staircase.
Located in close proximity to Ancona Cathedral, the Archaeological Museum is one of the most important museums in the region and is an infinitely interesting place to visit. Contained within the museum is a vast collection of artefacts and finds that have been excavated from the surrounding Marche region of Italy.
Notable structures include the Chiesa di San Domenico, the beautiful Prefettura Di Ancona, the Museo Della Citta and the ornate public library. At the eastern side of the square there is a beautiful set of stone stairs complete with historic statues such as the marble statue of Pope Clement XII. Aside from the amazing architecture there is also a series of high quality restaurants, cafes and bars for your enjoyment.
Often brushed aside as being just another of Italy's bolshie, gritty port towns, Ancona is no beauty at first glance from the ferry, it's true. But there's more to Ancona than meets the superficial eye, and to simply bypass it is to miss much. In the old town, crowned by the duomo, you can peel back layers of history of the city founded by Greek settlers from Syracuse around 387 BC, admiring Roman ruins, the rich stash of its archaeological museum and its Renaissance palazzi, which glow softly in the evening light. Linger long enough in its hilltop parks overlooking the Adriatic and lively boulevards and cafe-rimmed piazzas and you'll see a more likeable side to Le Marche's seafront capital, promise.

In spite of having lived abroad for so many years, I always had troubles answering the question where are you from?.
The answer I settled on has been a city called Ancona, on the Adriatic sea. If you draw a line from Florence going East, it's there on the coast. Obviously, there's much more to it, but it's hard to explain. There are not many reasons for a foreign tourist to visit, if not for catching a ferry to Greece.
Last time I went home I took a few videos in the hope to do a better job of describing where I'm from.
This one is a place that is truly special to me called Portonovo. In spite of my very basic editing skills, I hope you'll enjoy.

Its capital, Rome, is home to the Vatican as well as landmark art and ancient ruins. Other major cities include Florence, with Renaissance masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s David and Brunelleschi's Duomo; Venice, the city of canals; and Milan, Italy’s fashion capital.

First Time in Ancona, Italy: When we set foot in this Italian town for the first time!
Set picturesquely above the Adriatic Sea, Ancona has only recently gained popularity among tourists. Most of them arrive by ferry from Croatia or Greece, or by cruise ship on a shore excursion heading for Loreto or other nearby attractions. But there are several interesting things to see in Ancona, and as we begin our adventure for the first time in this Italian port city we have begun to discover the pleasures of its spacious squares, churches, and historic sights that surround it. Ancona is the capital of the Marches region and has been an important trade center since Roman times, when the Emperors Caesar and Trajan fortified and developed it into a naval base.

Places to see in ( Ancona - Italy ) Portonovo
Portonovo is a bay which is completely immersed in the surrounding Conero National Park, nestled in the slopes of Monte Conero, and covered by typical local vegetation. Thanks to the high quality of its environment, sea and hospitality, Portonovo was awarded with European Blue Flag. The bay, made of gravel and rocky sand, alternates stretches of public beaches and well-equipped beach establishments.
Along the Conero Riviera there are many restaurants by the sea where you can taste a variety of fresh fish dishes such as local mussels, called “moscioli”. Beaches are surrounded by dense vegetation that you can explore thanks to a network of hiking trails.
We suggest that you visit the eighteenth-century “Torre Clementina”, a tower built on the top of the elbow shaped bay to defend against pirates. The tower hosted famous Italian writers and poets such as Gabriele D’Annunzio. You can also take a walk to the natural lakes Lago Profondo and Lago Grande.
If you are looking for peace and want to spend time meditating, you should visit the ancient “Santa Maria di Portonovo” church. Thanks to its timeless beauty, the Romanesque church was mentioned by Dante Alighieri in the Divine Comedy. You can also admire the “Fortino Napoleonico”, a white stoned military fortress dating from the early nineteenth century which is now used as a hotel.

Places to see in ( Ancona - Italy ) Porto di Ancona
The port of Ancona is the first Italian port for international traffic in vehicles and passengers, and one of the first in the Adriatic for goods; as far as fishing is concerned , Ancona's fish markets are at the second place in the Adriatic and at the sixth place at national level. For gross tonnage tons, the fishing port of Ancona, with 4.566 GRT , is in third place in Italy. The port is also an important center of Italian shipbuilding, with the Fincantieri shipyard and four specialized shipyards. The workers of the port of Ancona are between five thousand and six thousand.
The port is located in the innermost part of the Gulf of Ancona and is therefore in its most ancient nucleus a natural port; over the centuries it has been repeatedly enlarged with protective works. The port of Ancona (international acronym IT AOI ) is the seat of the Harbor System Authority of the Central Adriatic Sea, which also includes the following ports of regional importance: Pesaro , San Benedetto del Tronto , Pescara , Ortona .
The Dors , who founded the city of Ancona in 387 BC , stopped here because of the possibilities that the natural harbor offered. The coast in fact forms an elbow, hence the name Ancona ( Ankon , in the Greek elbow), which offers a natural shelter from the sea. But already in the III century aC the gulf was used by the Piceni for the commercial exchanges with the Greeks.
The port is the first in Italy, with regard to international traffic, the number of cars boarded and the number of passengers, with an average of over 1.5 million passengers and 200,000 IRRs every year (above all for those using ferries to Eastern European countries).
For goods in containers it is in fourth place among the Italian ports of the Adriatic and the sixth including also the Slovenian and Croatian ones. For fishing, it is among the first ports in Italy. Ancona's fish markets are at the same time in second place in the Adriatic, after Chioggia, and at the sixth place in the national sphere. For gross tonnage tons, the fishing port of Ancona, with 4.566 GRT , is in third place in Italy

NUMANA, ANCONA, ITALY (1 of 2)
