Sargazo en Cancun Zona Hotelera Sargassum seaweed Cancun Hotel Zone Drone
Drone Flight in the Hotel zone of cancun over Cancun Beaches Playa delfines,Playa Tortugas,Playa Ballenas,Playa Isla Blanca to monitor the Sargassume Seaweed which infected the beaches.
Sargassum: The biggest seaweed bloom in the world
A floating mass of seaweed stretching from West Africa to the Gulf of Mexico is now the biggest seaweed bloom in the world, according to satellite observations.
The algal explosion in the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea could signify a new normal, say US scientists.
Deforestation and fertiliser use are among the factors thought to be driving the growth.
The seaweed has inundated beaches, causing an environmental nuisance.
As of June 2018, the Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt, as scientists call it, extended 8,850km (5,500 miles) and was made up of over 20 million tonnes of biomass.
The ocean's chemistry must have changed in order for the blooms to get so out of hand, said Dr Chuanmin Hu of the University of South Florida College of Marine Science, who led the study, published in Science.
The researchers used a 19-year record of satellite data to study the Sargassum, which has bloomed every year from 2011 to 2018, with the exception of 2013.
2011 appeared to be a tipping point, when the algae arrived en mass on shorelines.
This is all ultimately related to climate change because it affects precipitation and ocean circulation and even human activities, but what we've shown is that these blooms do not occur because of increased water temperature, said Dr Hu.
They are probably here to stay.
Some species of Sargassum - a group of seaweed - live on the ocean's surface, where they attract fish, birds and turtles.
In the open ocean, Sargassum provides great ecological values, serving as a habitat and refuge for various marine animals, said co-researcher Dr Mengqiu Wang.
However, too much of the seaweed can smother corals and seagrasses, and end up on beaches, releasing gas that smells like rotten eggs.
Some 1,000km (621 miles) of Mexican beaches have been impacted this year. Removal is time-consuming, expensive, and not always effective.
What is sargassum?
Stringy, brown seaweed that spends its life floating
Traditionally starts life in the Gulf of Mexico and is pushed by currents out into the North Atlantic to float in the Sargasso Sea
Forms rafts that serve as vital feeding and breeding grounds for marine life
In small amounts, it can help nourish beaches.

Along the coast of Riviera Maya in Mexico, there are hundreds of resorts. Xpu ha beach club (or Xpu-Há) is a very popular off the beaten path spot for tourists to go to get away from the craziness of Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum... because of this, the place has become a bit of a tourist trap itself.
In 2005, Hurricane Wilma, a category 5 monster destroyed much of Caribbean coast. 12 years later, you can still see the remains of resorts that were not rebuilt. Xpu-Ha Palace was one of those places.
Some interesting features of this particular Riviera Maya resort was it's natural coral lagoon, which connected underground to a beautiful cenote which sat in the middle of the resort. This made it easily one of the most beautiful places to stay in Mexico, especially on this coast.
Now, there is a surprising amount of it still standing. Much of the wooden structures have fallen, but the shell of the resort still remains, and is just a 20 minute walk down the beach from Xpu-Ha Beach.

DANGER !!! CENOTES DIVE MEXICO
Fantastic Cenotes Dive outside Playa Del Carmen Mexico. Easy day trip from Cozumel. It is the law in Mexico, you must have a Cave Dive Instructor in your group. Mateo Gutierrez was our guide on this cool cenotes exploration.
Special thanks to Mateo Gutierrez who ensured our safety during this dive. Dive buddies Phil Lowe and Dave Gore with me.
Cenote Chac Mool is just south of Puerto Aventuras and a rather popular one. The original Chac Mool is a peculiar Mesoamerican sculpture. It is usually lying on its back with its head up and found mainly in Chichen Itza and Tula. It literally means “Red or Great Jaguar Paw” in Yucatec Maya.
First of all, along the opening of the main entrance, trunks and tree branches reach into the water. Also, through the Cavern Zone, you will be awed by giant monoliths and incredible views of the jungle from underwater. Furthermore, on sunny days, the light rays that penetrate into the water create an amazing light show. You will be hypnotized by the halocline passage diving to Cenote Little Brother. This is where the fresh water floats above the denser salt water. A fascinating visual effect is created when this fine line is disturbed.
Cave divers can also enjoy long penetration cave dives.
Cenote Kukulkan is also part of the Chac Mool System and the entrance is a few hundred feet away from Cenote Chac Mool.
Kukulkan, means “Feathered Serpent” and is the name of the Maya snake deity. In Chichen Itza you can find a sculpture of Kukulkan at the base of the west face of the northern stairway.
The entrance to the Cenote is through a beautiful, crystal clear turquoise blue pond. The dive passes through a huge cavern that surrounds the Cenote. Curtains of light pass and light up the whole entrance on sunny days. Also, at about 10 meters / 30 feet, you will encounter the halocline. If you shine your light where the salt and freshwater meet, it will create amazing reflections on the walls of the cavern due to the halocline.
While Cenotes Kukulkan and Little Brother are connected by a restriction, cave diving gear and training is required to safely pass thru.
Puerto Morelos Riviera Maya Drone Cancun Beaches
Puerto Morelos is a Mexican port town on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. It’s between the Riviera Maya resorts of Cancun and Playa del Carmen, but retains some of its original fishing village character. The Puerto Morelos Reef National Park has many offshore dive sites. Turtles breed on coastal beaches. Inland are freshwater sinkholes including Las Mojarras Cenote and Verde Lucero Cenote.
Puerto Morelos is divided by a highway and a mangrove swamp into three sections. The section west of the highway is known as Colonia Joaquin Zetina Gazca. The section east of the highway is called Colonia Pescadores. The section on the coast east of the mangrove swamp is Puerto or Antiguo (old) Puerto Morelos. This original coastal fishing village is now a quiet, mixed-use neighborhood of private homes, hotels, condominiums, restaurants, and tourist shops.
The second part is about 2 km. inland and adjacent to Highway 307, on the western side. The inland portion is mainly single level dwellings for local workers. New residential developments have sprung up in recent years adding to the housing mix. There are now multi-story apartment buildings, and private residential developments between the highway and the mangrove where one can buy lots and build a house of one's own design.
It has historically been the main port between the mainland of Yucatán and the Island of Cozumel, and an automobile ferry used to run from Puerto Morelos to Cozumel. The town is named after Independence leader José María Morelos.
Resorts are abundant in the Puerto Morelos region along the Riviera Maya and attractions, such as the Crococun Crocodile Zoo, the Botanical Garden, and a host of cenotes are also increasing in number. Recently new smaller inns have been built like Layla Guesthouse which offers an evening program of Talks on local history, marine biology, and healthy living practices including meditation and juicing. Yoga classes are available at several private centers, and open to the public at Naturalmente Yoga Center.
One hundred meters off shore lies the Puerto Morelos portion of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, designated as a National Marine Park in 1998 due to local environmental activists.

What To Do In Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico's most popular destinations for snow birds trying to escape the cold back home. In this video I'm sharing some fun activities you can do there, many of which are free. Start by getting a bird's eye view of the old city (centro historico) by climbing up to an old lighthouse that's now a lookout point called Mirador Matamoros. Next check out the Chocolate Museum to learn about the history and culture of chocolate in Mexico, plus make your own to take home. To walk off the sugar high, head to River Cuale Island (Isla Rio Cuale) for some shopping or to grab a bite to eat. Then I suggest joining the Art Walk to learn about Puerto Vallarta's art scene and hear the stories behind its public art. At the end of the day, stroll along the lovely walkway that winds along the water called the Malecón. Try a popular local drink called a Tuba and get a photo with the Puerto Vallarta sign. The Malecón is the perfect place to catch the sunset and end the day.
Huge thank you to the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board and ENroute Communications for inviting us to experience Puerto Vallarta.
