The Loier-Allier river in France is the longest river in Europe with a population of Atlantic salmon. This amazing population migrates over 900 km upstream to spawn each year. This population is near extinction due to threats such as river pollution, river barriers and global warming. Dedication to persevering this population has been taking place in the Haut-Allier region, notably by the Conservatoire national du Saumon sauvage (National Conservatory for wild Salmon).
The Tour de France, one of the most viewed sporting events in the world will be passing by some of the best spawning grounds for the Allier Atlantic salmon. In efforts to raise awareness regarding the state of the environment and the Allier salmon population a 280m salmon was designed and built in a farm next to the Allier river.
Be sure to share this video as awareness is one of the best tools for conservation. If you would like more information regarding the Allier Altantic salmon or about the Conservatoire national du Saumon sauvage please visit their website
