Abandoned Historic Power House Set For Demolition 2019
This place was built in 1903 and served as the main power house for Ingersoll Rand in Phillipsburg NJ.
The location will be demolished in a few weeks so I am glad I got in and made a short video too preserve the memories of this awesome building!!! RIP but we will never forget you!!!!
I ran into security as i was leaving this place so I could not spend much time here, had to make it super fast!!!!
From 1903 to 2000, the company was the town's biggest employer and the biggest taxpayer. It wasn't unusual for multiple generations of a family to work there. They made rock drills that helped develop the interstate highway system. They made pumps, steam condensers and rock compressors.
There was a company grocery store and social club. It built housing developments and apartments.
But from its mid-century peak of about 5,000 employees, the company slowly declined. Divisions moved out of town. And then, one day, it was gone.
The company is now based in Dublin, Ireland. A timeline on the Ingersoll Rand website weaves a complicated tale of mergers and acquisitions. Not once does it mention Phillipsburg.
But the specter of Ingersoll Rand has remained here. For years, the town government and developers have struggled to pick up the pieces of the old industrial site, the largest and quite possibly only undeveloped area in this town of 14,500 people.
A groundbreaking earlier this month means industry may soon return to the Ingersoll Rand site -- to a town that has scarcely known life without it.
Information in the following report comes from the Express-Times and Star-Ledger story archives, mostly from around the time the plant closed.

The first Ingersoll-Sergeant factory opens in Phillipsburg. Within a year, it employs 1,000 people.

1918
Ingersoll Rand forms the Phillipsburg Development Corp. to provide low-cost housing in what is now the town's Valley View development. On the other side of town in Hillcrest, Ingersoll Rand built more affluent housing for management.

1940s-'60s
The heyday of Ingersoll Rand in Phillipsburg, which employed about 5,000 people at its peak. In 1954, the company suffers its worst tragedy when four employees are killed and dozens hurt in an explosion.
Labor strife roils the company in the '60s, with one strike said to last six to eight months. The rift never fully heals.

1986
Ingersoll-Rand forges a partnership with competitor Dresser Industries, forming Dresser-Rand and later moving its turbo division to upstate New York.
1990
Only one local division remains, the pump division employing between 800 and 1,000 people.

2000
Parent company Ingersoll Rand sells its Ingersoll-Dresser Pumps division to Texas-based competitor Flowserve Corp., ending I-R's 97-year business presence in Phillipsburg. Soon after the purchase is completed, the new owners announce the elimination of 447 of the division's approximately 500 employees.
Though it no longer operates there, Ingersoll Rand retains the title for 380 contaminated acres that make up Commerce Park in P'burg and Lopatcong Township.
2004
Preferred Unlimited Inc., a developer based in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, purchases the Phillipsburg side of Commerce Park from Ingersoll Rand for $16 million.
2008
Bear Stearns, which holds a mortgage on the center of Commerce Park, collapses amid a national financial crisis. Other entities eventually assume control of the loan for that section, including Preferred and Ingersoll Rand, which continues to handle environmental remediation. Future development requires coordination with all stakeholders, municipalities and state agencies.

2012
Preferred gives up on redevelopment. It sells the property not encumbered by the Bear Stearns mortgage to Phillipsburg. The town pays $1 for the land and forgives about $275,000 in back taxes.
2013
The last vestiges of Ingersoll Rand's business leaves Phillipsburg as Flowserve moves its operations from Commerce Park to Hanover Township, Northampton County.

The Great Gildersleeve: Gildy Turns Off the Water / Leila Engaged / Leila's Wedding Invitation
Aiding and abetting the periodically frantic life in the Gildersleeve home was family cook and housekeeper Birdie Lee Coggins (Lillian Randolph). Although in the first season, under writer Levinson, Birdie was often portrayed as saliently less than bright, she slowly developed as the real brains and caretaker of the household under writers John Whedon, Sam Moore and Andy White. In many of the later episodes Gildersleeve has to acknowledge Birdie's commonsense approach to some of his predicaments. By the early 1950s, Birdie was heavily depended on by the rest of the family in fulfilling many of the functions of the household matriarch, whether it be giving sound advice to an adolescent Leroy or tending Marjorie's children.
By the late 1940s, Marjorie slowly matures to a young woman of marrying age. During the 9th season (September 1949-June 1950) Marjorie meets and marries (May 10) Walter Bronco Thompson (Richard Crenna), star football player at the local college. The event was popular enough that Look devoted five pages in its May 23, 1950 issue to the wedding. After living in the same household for a few years with their twin babies Ronnie and Linda, the newlyweds move next door to keep the expanding Gildersleeve clan close together.
Leroy, aged 10--11 during most of the 1940s, is the all-American boy who grudgingly practices his piano lessons, gets bad report cards, fights with his friends and cannot remember to not slam the door. Although he is loyal to his Uncle Mort, he is always the first to deflate his ego with a well-placed Ha!!! or What a character! Beginning in the Spring of 1949, he finds himself in junior high and is at last allowed to grow up, establishing relationships with the girls in the Bullard home across the street. From an awkward adolescent who hangs his head, kicks the ground and giggles whenever Brenda Knickerbocker comes near, he transforms himself overnight (November 28, 1951) into a more mature young man when Babs Winthrop (both girls played by Barbara Whiting) approaches him about studying together. From then on, he branches out with interests in driving, playing the drums and dreaming of a musical career.
