Albany Heritage Park - Western Australia
The Albany Heritage Park in Western Australia is 260Ha or 600 acres in size. It is home the the Historical Forts, the National ANZAC Centre, the Desert Corps Memorial and numerous old canon installations and bunkers. It sits right in town and spans Mt Adelaide to Mt Clarence with a myriad of vistas of the surrounding area such a Padre White Lookout and the convoy walk which shows King George Sound from where ships gathered to depart for Gallipoli in World War I. The park is home to much Flora and Fauna such as Bandicoots and Black Skinks.

Anzac Commemorative Service Highlights 2014-Albany, WA
Anzac Albany
Anzac Centenary Commemorations kick off in Albany, Western Australia this year where events will be held to commemorate the departure of the first convoys from King George Sound. Albany resident John Chandler has produced this short video to promote Albany ahead of the commemorations and shows the magnificent harbour where the troop and merchant ships congregated before leaving for foreign shores on November 1, 1914.
Albany Wind Farm: It's awesome!
Albany Wind Farm is just a 15 minute drive from the beautiful town of Albany, on the southern coast of Western Australia.
There are 18 gigantic turbines at Albany Wind Farm, dotted around the hills facing the stunning Southern Ocean. The wind farm produces 80% of Albany's electricity, and is a great place for an easy hike on a sunny day.
Each turbine at Albany Wind Farm stands 65 metres tall and each nacelle (the bit at the centre of the blades that contains the generator, dynamo and other bits) weighs 50 tonnes!
The 'blades' are 35 metres long, making them longer than the wings of a jumbo jet! It takes three seconds to complete a full rotation, and even though it looks like they're moving slowly the tip is actually travelling at 200km/h!
One of the best parts of visiting Albany Wind Farm are the steps that lead down the cliff face all the way to the Southern Ocean. It's an exhausting climb back though so only attempt this if you're reasonably fit!
I hope you enjoy our little tour around Albany Wind Farm...we'll be back with another vlog of some of the other fabulous spots around Albany and beyond soon :-)

Albany & surrounds
Days 100 to 102 of our Big Adventure were spent in and around Albany. We based ourselves at the Cosy Corner Campground which is about 20kms from Albany. We called in to the Albany Visitor Centre which had an amazing interactive display of all of the different sites around the area. We were also given lots of really good information about what to see and do whilst we were in the area. We visited the Brig Amity, Melville Lookout, ANZAC Memorial, Padre and Convey Lookouts and surround precinct. We drove out to Castle Rock and completed the Granite Skywalk before returning to Albany to The Gap and Natural Bridge. After hitching the van up we visited Two People's Bay and Little Beach before stopping for the night in Fitzgerald. We hope you enjoy the video :)
