Cooch’s Bridge is a historic district located at Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, Delaware, and is the site of the 1777 Battle of Cooch’s Bridge.While there are several modern bridges near the site of the battle, the original bridge was in poor shape in 1777, and did not survive the American Revolution.

1. The Dutch were the first Europeans to settle in present-day Delaware in the middle region by establishing a trading post at Zwaanendael, near the site of Lewes in 1631. Within a year all the settlers were killed in a dispute with area Native American tribes. In 1638 New Sweden, a Swedish trading post and colony, was established, which lasted for 17 years, until the Dutch came back and reconquered the area. But just 9 years later they were conquered by a fleet of English ships, under the direction of James, Duke of York. Delaware was one of the 13 colonies participating in the American Revolution. On December 7, 1787, Delaware became the first state to ratify the Constitution of the United States, and has since promoted itself as The First State.
2. Delaware is the second-smallest state in the country. It stretches just under 100 miles long, and is only 35 miles at its widest point. With fewer than one million residents and a total area not much larger than Anchorage, Alaska, the state of Delaware is naturally at a bit of a disadvantage when it comes the rest of the country's appreciation for it. Despite being the second-smallest state, Delaware is also the sixth most densely populated state in America.
3. In the 1820s the DuPont family (probably best known as being allied to the General Motors Company during the 1930s) established a gunpowder mill on the banks of Brandywine River in Wilmington. Over time, the family turned into the largest producer of gunpowder in the world. Even now, the family are responsible for 5-10% of the total employment of the population of Delaware.
4. The log cabin originated in Finland. Finnish settlers arrived in Delaware in the mid-1600s and brought with them plans for the log cabin, one of the enduring symbols of the American pioneer. One of the cabins has been preserved and is on display at the Delaware Agricultural Museum in Dover.
5. Tradition holds the first time Betsy Ross's famous flag was flown was at the Battle of Cooch's Bridge. This historic site is located on route 4 in Newark.
6. Thomas Garret lost his entire fortune in his battle against slavery. He was sued by a Maryland slave owner and fined for aiding a black family in flight. Over his lifetime, Garrett reportedly helped more than 2,000 fugitive slaves move through Delaware, an important stop on the Underground Railroad.
7. Dover is the capital and second-largest city in the U.S. state of Delaware. It is also the county seat of Kent County. It is located on the St. Jones River in the Delaware River coastal plain. It was named by William Penn of Dover in Kent, England. As of 2010, the city had a population of 36,047.

Cry Baby Bridge near Smyrna, Delaware - Virginia Paranormal Investigations
While traveling north on Route 13 in Smyrna, Delaware, Jeff and Linda of VAPI decide to venture across the Maryland State Line just outside of Clayton DE, to investigate the haunted Cry Baby Bridge. This creepy, graffiti covered bridge is labeled haunted by many of the locals. One of the urban legends surrounding this bridge is that of a woman who gave birth to a deformed baby. The child supposedly had exceptionally strong legs. The woman allegedly threw the baby from the bridge and fled. To this day, visitors to the haunted bridge report hearing the distant cries of a baby that grow increasingly louder as they sit on the bridge. There have also been reports of thundering sounds, supposedly from the large legged child stomping through the woods.

Party turns to riot in Newark, Delaware
Hundreds of students poured into the streets of Newark Monday night following a house party in the 400 block of South College Avenue. 75 police officers were called to the scene to bring the crowd under control after damage to cars, signs and other property along Newark's Main Street.
3 teens charged in vandalism of Newark, Delaware mosque
NEWARK, Del. - October 29, 2013 -- Police say the three 16-year-old boys targeted the Islamic Society of Delaware building on 28 Salem Church Road early Friday morning, tearing down a fence and using rocks to damage a digital sign. Pieces of that fence were then used to make a cross that was tied together by string.
Leaders tell NBC10's Tim Furlong that the center has a great relationship with everyone in the community and they don't know why they were targeted.

This type of crime hasn't happened in the town before, but local Muslims say these kinds of things do happen.

Wilmington, Delaware
Wilmington (Lenape: Paxahakink, Pakehakink) is the largest city in the state of Delaware, United States, and is located at the confluence of the Christina River and Brandywine Creek, near where the Christina flows into the Delaware River. It is the county seat of New Castle County and one of the major cities in the Delaware Valley metropolitan area. Wilmington was named by Proprietor Thomas Penn after his friend Spencer Compton, Earl of Wilmington, who was prime minister in the reign of George II of Great Britain.
According to the 2010 census, the population of the city is 70,851, a decrease of 2.4% from 2000.
