Copenhagen
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | As we get to know Copenhagen, we'll discover reminders of its Viking history and see reflections today of its proudly independent ways. We'll stroll down Europe's first great pedestrian boulevard, ogle crown jewels in the palace treasury, and take a bike ride through an inspirational hippie squatter community, finishing at Copenhagen's full-time carnival, Tivoli Gardens.

Tour of Copenhagen - Big Danish Lunch + Canal Boat Tour in Denmark!

Thank you to Visit Copenhagen:
Bicycle Ride - In order to really blend in with Danish culture in Copenhagen, you need to go around the city by bicycle. So on day one of our visit to Copenhagen, we jumped into a bicycle cart, and rode over the park. #Copenhagen #Denmark
Frederiksberg Have - Copenhagen has lots of beautiful parks, and we strategically went to one called Frederiksberg Have because it wasn’t far from where we were staying, and there was a restaurant I really wanted to try in the area.
Hansens Gamle Familiehave ( - I love legendary classic restaurants, and Hansens Gamle Familiehave is about as historical and classic as Danish restaurants in Copenhagen get. I went straight for the Hansens lunch platter, which included two platters - first the cold appetizers like herring, and next the hot dishes like pork. Total bill for this huge Danish lunch platter - 718 DKK ($106.43)
Hey Captain ( - One of the attractions I was most interested in doing during my time in Copenhagen, was to take a boat Copenhagen Canal Tour. Thanks to Visit Copenhagen and Hey Captain, for taking me on this fantastic and luxurious canal boat tour of Copenhagen. The drinks made it even better. Amazing boat tour, highly recommended in Copenhagen.
Folkehuset Absalon ( - Finally for dinner we went o Folkehuset Absalon, a former church that has been opened as a community center coffee shop, and a family style restaurant at dinner. The place is packed every night, people come looking for a social dining atmosphere, sharing tables, and delicious home cooked styles Danish food. Food was delicious. Price - 100 DKK ($14.82)
And that wraps up this tour of Copenhagen, including Danish food and attractions!

Copenhagen Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Copenhagen in Denmark.
Copenhagen is the capital of the Kingdom of Denmark and is situated on the east coast of Sæland Island on the Öresund, the link between the North Sea and the Baltic. It is a European capital of culture, home country of the Little Mermaid and a successful combination of Scandinavian elegance and Middle-European joie de vivre.
In 1167, Bishop Absalon of Roskilde was granted by King Valdemar I an area of land on Öresund, to which the small settlement of Havn also belonged. For the protection of both fishermen and traders, he built a fortress and the settlement developed into Kobenhavn, the Harbor of Merchants. Copenhagen was born and the fortress was continuously enlarged until in 1376, a castle was built on its foundation.
The huge Christiansborg Palace extends across the larger part of Slotsholmen, Castle Island and it has been Denmark's power base for hundreds of years. The huge statue in the square features King Frederik VII on horseback, a monarch known in Danish history as the 'King of Democracy'.
Each day, crowds of people make for Copenhagen's world famous landmark, The Little Mermaid, created by artist Edvard Erikson. Tiny and elegant and seated on a stone, she gazes yearningly across the sea oblivious to the city's hustle and bustle.
The Rundetårn is an unusual building that was built at the command of the Renaissance king, Christian IV. Its circular tower is 36 metres high and has a diameter of 15 metres. In place of a conventional stairway, royal architects Hans Van Steenwinkel constructed a winding 209 metre long ramp, thus the somewhat rotund king was able to travel without difficulty by carriage to the astrological observatory at the top!
Copenhagen is a friendly metropolis in which tolerance and openness are the order of the day, a 'City on the Sea' that fascinates all who experience it.

Why Copenhagen Is The Number One City To Travel To in 2019
Add Copenhagen, Denmark to your bucket list for this year. Lonely Planet named it the number one city to visit in 2019, so explore the city's culture, history, and food scenes. With its new initiatives, diversifying food scene and modern architecture, there's no better time to start planning a trip to Copenhagen.
Bailey Freeman, destinaton editor for Lonely Planet, explains why Copenhagen received the top spot for Best in Travel. Copenhagen has something for every traveler.
FOOD: Noma, the world-famous restaurant, has new premises with an urgan garden. Noma is responsible for pioneering the new Nordic cuisine, which has influenced food all over the world. Food halls, like Reffen, are developing. Consider trying some of Copenhagen's popular dishes like rød pølse, which is like sausage; smørrebrød, which is like an open-faced sandwich; or frikadeller, which are Danish meatballs.
ARCHITECTURE: Copenhagen is known for all of its amazing historic buildings in Nyhavn and The Round Tower. Now, modern architecture is coming to the forefront, too. You can see more modern installations in public spaces, like Circle Bridge. There's a dedication to both form and function and design. Trampolines are even embedded in sidewalks, and urban parks are filled with art.
SUSTAINABILITY: Copenhagen has demonstrated a dedication to sustainability. Finding environmentally friendly ways to explore the city, like by riding bikes. It's a bicycle-friendly city, and it has more bikes than people.
Copenhagen can get expensive to visit, but there are ways to get around that. Go to a tourism office and get the Copenhagen Card, which will give you access to museums, attractions across the city for free or at discounted prices. If you want to try top-end food, go for lunch. At lot of times, menus are just as inspired but are at a lower price.

Denmark Beyond Copenhagen
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | Using Copenhagen as a springboard, we'll visit the very best of Denmark. Aarhus welcomes us with its ruddy affluence, charming open-air museum, and eerily well-preserved ancient bog man. Roskilde impresses visitors with its royal burial church and the best Viking-ship museum anywhere. And the delightfully quaint isle of Ærø comes with half-timbered cottages, ships in bottles, and cobbled alleyways that remind us of the world of Hans Christian Andersen.

Copenhagen history in six and a half minute 0001
If you are visiting Copenhagen you might want to know something about the city. Here's a short version of the thousand year story that shaped Copenhagen. Enjoy it!
Here's some highlighted facts: 900 years ago all Copenhagen really was was a harbour, which gave it its name: Hagen - Harbour.
The ramparts did play a major role in the formation of Copenhagen, because no one was allowed to build and live just outside them. The army had to have clear ground if some nasty enemy should attack us from land. That meant that Copenhagen got very densely populated.
Actually the city was twice as densely populated in 1855 than Mumbai today. Two years later, in 1857, the ramparts were given up and people started to move out of the inner core of Copenhagen.
Some 12.000 Copenhageners moved away each year in the 1970's, leaving students, the elderly, gays, hippies, some socialists, prostitutes and petty criminals in the city.

Carlsberg Brewery Tour in Copenhagen, Denmark
We love beer! No matter the city, no matter the country we love to try the local brew, and few cities have the amazing selection and quality of microbrews that Copenhagen, Denmark has.
Carlsberg is one of the most world famous beer names, but the brewery itself and the tour around the grounds is authentic, informative and delicious!
We spent time in their in house tap room sampling all of the beers (for way too long...) before heading out on a tour of the old brewery and the stables.
If you are in Copenhagen and have even the slightest interest in beer, don't miss a visit to the brewery!
It can be a bit tricky to find, as it is somewhat up on a hill in an industrial area of the city so while we like to walk wherever we go, we opted to jump in a cab from the wonderful Radisson Blu Hotel we were staying at just next to Tivoli Gardens and were there in no time.
If you are there near the holidays you can't miss the Christmas beer!
