Copenhagen Travel Guide - Denmark Unique Experience
Copenhagen Travel Guide - Denmark Unique Experience
Copenhagen (Danish: København) is the capital of Denmark and what a million Danes call home. Copenhagen is big enough to be a metropolis with shopping, culture and nightlife par excellence, yet still small enough to be intimate, safe and easy to navigate. Overlooking the Øresund strait with Sweden just minutes away, it is a cultural and geographic link between mainland Europe and Scandinavia. This is where old fairy tales blend with flashy new architecture and world-class design; where warm jazz mixes with cold electronica from Copenhagen's basements. You'll feel you've seen it all in a day, but could keep on discovering more for months.
If entering the city using the highways, you won't meet a city limit sign saying København (Copenhagen). Instead you'll see Storkøbenhavn, which means Greater Copenhagen. While the original part of Copenhagen is located in a small area by the waterway between Zealand and Amager. Today these are distinctive municipalities, together making up the city's metropolitan area with around 2 million inhabitants. A notable exception is Frederiksberg, an independent municipality with its own mayor and municipal council, located inside Copenhagen. The other boroughs in and around Copenhagen are as follows:
Indre By (Inner City)
Downtown, The Medieval city - a place of many names, but it is the historical heart of Copenhagen, dotted with church spires, historic buildings, narrow alleys and excellent shopping venues.
Christianshavn (Christian's Harbour)
Originally laid out as a working class neighbourhood 300 years ago, it is now a thriving area notable for its many canals. The Freetown of Christiania is situated in the eastern section of Christianshavn, along with the old naval area, turned trendy: Holmen.
Vesterbro (Western Bridge)
This district has evolved tremendously in recent years and is now one of the hippest places to live, with cafes and bars dotted along its main artery, Istedgade.
Frederiksberg
A small town which originally formed around Frederiksberg castle, this area is still a independent municipality. Literally surrounded by the City of Copenhagen, it has preserved a unique, conservative, upscale feel.
Nørrebro (Northern Bridge)
One of the most vibrant parts of Copenhagen, especially along the main artery, Nørrebrogade, with a mix of immigrants, students, and original, working-class Nørrebro inhabitants.
Østerbro (Eastern Bridge)
A cosy neighbourhood north of the centre - less vibrant than Nørrebro and Vesterbro, and less unusual than Frederiksberg. It is the home of the famous Little Mermaid statue, the beautifully preserved Kastellet citadel, and numerous piers for small ferries and large cruise ships. The area west of the train track has
Amager
Once a bastion of the working class, this island, with its own distinct atmosphere, is booming with new development. It is the home of Copenhagen's airport, located in the town of Kastrup and thus named Kastrup Airport.
Northern suburbs
A visit to these green suburbs and Dyrehavsbakken, — the world's oldest running amusement park; Frilandsmuseet — the world's largest open air museum; or canoeing down the Mill River, will leave no doubt that this is an altogether different kind of suburbia. It is often colloquially known to locals as the whisky belt, due to its often well-heeled residents.
Vestegnen
The suburbs west and south of the city, short on attractions apart from the good Arken art museum, it has some good beaches and camping opportunities.

48 hours in Copenhagen, Denmark
After wanting to visit Scandinavia for the longest time ever, I finally found myself in the beautiful city of Copenhagen. I must say that the city surpassed all my expectations, the streets, people and atmosphere, in general, make the place so colourful, vibrant and elating.
How I spent 48 Hours in Copenhagen:
Day one:
I flew into the city at around 14:00 and headed straight to my hostel to check in my luggage. I stayed at the city’s most popular hostel, (I would definitely recommend this to anyone that visits the city, the hostel was beyond brilliant and super cheap considering how expensive the city is).
We then headed to Tivoli Gardens, Denmark’s biggest amusement park, which is also the second oldest amusement park in the world. At Tivoli, I experienced some super fun rides, arcade games and tried some tasty food!
Day two:
I kicked off day two by venturing into the city on a bicycle, the most ideal way to hop around Copenhagen. In just a few hours, I was able to complete most of the attractions the capital had to offer...
If you want to rent a bike at a low cost and super conveniently, download the “Donkey Republic” app:
Started off with breakfast at Grød, a popular local breakfast joint and then headed towards The Little Mermaid, Amalienborg, The Round Tower, Rosenberg Castle and Church of Our Savior. The most exciting part was being able to spend the evening at Freetown Christiania, Copenhagen’s Hippie “Free Town”, completely independent of the Danish government. Then headed to strøget for some quick shopping after which I boarded a train to Malmo, Sweden.

Christiania: Why this open Danish community has increasingly become an area of tension | ITV News
Christiania is one of Copenhagen's most popular tourist attractions.
For nearly 50 years, it has also been one of the world's most unique social experiments.
This small independent city inside Copenhagen is a communal society run by consensus, with a strong focus on sustainability and the environment.
ITV On Assignment's Rachel Younger visits some of the people who call Christiania home to see if the project still works.
Given recent reports of tensions between police and drug gangs what does the future hold for Denmark’s utopian experimental community.

World Santa Claus Congress Copenhagen - Julemandskongres Dyrhavsbakken - Copenhagen Travel Vlog
Copenhagen Travel Vlog. We visited Dyrehavsbakken (Bakken), the worlds oldest amusement Park located in Klampenborg a town just outside of Copenhagen, Denmark. The purpose of the visit was to attend and film some of the start of the World Santa Congress Copenhagen (Julemandskongres Dyrhavsbakken) which has been taking place at the amusement park, during July, since 1957. The purpose of this Santa Claus Congress is for Santa´s (Father Christmas) from all over the world to meet up and spread good Christmas cheer, have fun and socialize with their peers. This footage focuses on the Santa´s who have been members for two years and therefore have earned their own tree stump chair!
The World Santa Claus Congress (WSCC) describes the purpose of the event as follows, The World Santa Claus Congress at Bakken is both a professional forum and social meeting place for real Santa's from all around the world. The Santa's from around the world have the opportunity to meet and exchange experiences and to network. The World Santa Claus Congress also provides a chance to promote the Santa Clause trade and show how Christmas cheer is done in different parts of the world...
The World Santa Claus Congress was founded in the middle of the last century by Professor Tribini, an entertainer at Bakken. Professor Tribini did not believe that Christmas should only happen once a year, and therefor since Santa Claus is so busy in December he created Christmas in July an annual event, which every year attracts hundreds of Santa's, female and male Christmas pixies, elves and many thousands of spectators.
The event is organized by Dyrehavsbakken (Bakken) in close partnership with the Danish Santa Claus Guild (Dansk Julemands Laug).
The Congress is finding place at Bakken, the world’s oldest and Denmark’s most amusing amusement park.
Dyrhavsbakken write about themselves, The worlds oldest amusement park, founded in 1583, Bakken, or Dyrehavsbakken as it is officially named, has been a firm favorite with the people of Copenhagen for centuries. During summertime families, young couples and seniors alike flock to the amusement park and the surrounding woodland to indulge in a day of fun. With a unique position in the middle of one of Denmark’s most beautiful woods, it is like encountering a surprise in the middle of the greenery. The park offers a prefect blend of children’s amusements, restaurants, pubs and bars with entertainment and live music. It’s is not just a small children’s amusement park but a place of leisure for the whole family. Because of its historic value and unique location, no big brands are allowed to set up stands at Bakken and neon signs are banned. Instead a jumble of colourful wooden structures, small independent shop owners and quirky stalls meets visitors.
This 4K Footage is Filmed with a Panasonic HC-VX870 4K Camcorder at the annual World Santa Claus Congress (Julemandskongres Dyrhavsbakken), which takes place at the worlds oldest amusement park Dyrehavsbakken (Bakken) located just outside of Copenhagen in Denmark (Scandinavia).
Panasonic writes about the HC-VX870, Capture your vision in 4K video - Elevate your creativity with 4K video. Enjoy greater detail, HDR exposure and improved camera control with Level Shot Function and 5-Axis Hybrid O.I.S.+.

Christiania, the famous Freetown of Copenhagen, is without a doubt one of Denmark’s most popular tourist attractions comprising a community that has its own rules and regulations completely independent of the Danish government.

Christianshavn, Copenhagen / Nick in Denmark' 2012
Produced by Nick Lido. Featured by Nick Lido's Travel Journal at youtube.com/nicklido and HISTORY:
Christianshavn is a neighbourhood located in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was founded in the early 17th century by Christian IV as part of his extension of the fortifications of Copenhagen. Originally, it was laid out as an independent privileged merchant's town with inspiration from Dutch cities but it was soon incorporated into Copenhagen proper. Dominated by canals, it is the part of Copenhagen with the most nautical atmosphere.
For much of the 20th century a working-class neighbourhood, Christianshavn developed a bohemian reputation in the 1970s and it is now a fashionable, diverse and lively part of the city with its own distinctive personality, with residents tending to see themselves first as Christianshavners and then as Copenhageners.[1] Businessmen, students, artists, hippies and traditional families with children live side-by-side.
Administratively, Christianshavn has been part of Indre By District since 2007 but it still has its own local council.
