Boat Ride from San Juan Puerto Rico to Vieques Island 40 Miles Away
Sunil & Kish here from A view from the boat's roof top on our boat ride from San Juan Puerto Rico to Isla Vieques, the island of Vieques, where we had gone to see the Biobay. The Bioluminescent bay is the only one of its kind in the world so we HAD to see it. Kish even swam in it late night 11pm, with all the microorganisms that glow in the dark and appear as small tiny stars on your body. You can also see our Captain, Tito in this video. Beautiful sunset isn't it ? Imagine doing what Tito does for a living?

Puerto Rico Family Trip
It's hard to find a great itinerary for a large family with kids of all ages. We wanted to share our trip and the fun we had!
First, we rented an apartment in Luquillo from aibnb.com
We stayed at:
It was perfect! Just steps from the beach. It had 3 bedrooms and was very clean and nice.
Day 1: We arrived around noon, and by the time we got our rental car and luggage, it was late afternoon. I would suggest NOT using Dollar Rental. They are off site (we didn't know this ahead of time) and difficult to work with. We hung out at the beach by our apartment and ate at the Luquillo kiosks. We ate there at least once every day. We loved the kiosks!
Day 2: We drove to the Rio Camuy caves and took the tour. It was really fun! It's quite a drive from Luquillo, however. If you are planning anything on that side of the island, do it that same day! We also kayaked to the Bio luminescent bay that night. This was so amazing. The moon calendar didn't show this night as being great, but we loved it! We had family in town with us, and with 3 6 year olds, we knew they wouldn't do too well kayaking. They took the hike to the lighthouse and down to the bay. It was more like a walk, some even took strollers.
Day 3: El Yunque. The older kids went ziplining while the younger kids hiked to La Min Falls. These were both amazing experiences!
Day 4: We planned on taking the ferry to Culebra island, but couldn't get on the ferry. Instead, we went to Balneario at Luquillo Beach. This is an amazing beach! Clear calm water and lots of fun!
Day 5: Old San Juan. We went to both forts. We loved wandering through these castles and watching the soldiers light the cannon.
Day 6: Too tired to do much else, we went to the beach. My husband and son also went fishing and caught 45 pound tarpin. No pics but lots of fun.
Day 7: We had to check out at 11 but our flight didn't leave until 4. So we head back to el Yunque. We climbed to the top of the tower and drove through the rainforest. So fun!
We loved Puerto Rico and would recommend this as a family trip to anyone!

Driving in Puerto Rico 1 - The Mountains
Driving in the Utuado area in the in the central/western mountainous region of the island. It's stunningly beautiful, but note the width of the road. The is NOT a one way road! If someone comes the other way, you just make do as best you can. Somehow you always get by. (It looks like I'm going very fast, but I'm not. I'm sure I never broke 25)
