Falls Lake Hike at the Coquihalls Summit, B.C.
Full guide:
Falls Lake is a beautiful alpine lake in the Coquihalla Summit Recreation Area. It is a short and easy hike from a pullout off the Coquihalla Highway, east of Hope and west of Merrit. A hike to Falls Lake is a great way to stretch your legs during a long drive along the Coquihalla Highway.
It takes about 30 minutes to reach the lake from the parking area, with minimal elevation gain.
There are a few first-come, first-served tent pads along the lake for those wanting to camp.
Cold Early June Riding across Coquihalla Summit between Hope and Merritt.
Coquihalla Highway section between Merritt and Hope is often cold and windy in spring and even summer. Steep uphill and downhill to and from the Coquihalla summit connect Merritt and Hope. When we rode across the summit, summit temperature reached 4 degree C. I have experienced downpour and foggy riding days as well along this stretch of the highway. Be prepared with cold riding gear and ride safe. Motel recommendations in towns we visited: East Kootenay Motel (Fernie); Countryside Inn (Princeton); Merritt Lodge Motel (Merritt).

Wells Peak & Hope Mountain, Hope BC
Wells Peak & Hope Mountain are located at Hope BC. You would need 4x4 vehicle with clearance to get up the Mount Hope FSR to get to the trailhead. Hiked up Wells Peak first then try to find a route from the ridge to go to Hope Mountian there was a trail then couldnt find it cause it was so overgrown. Ended up bushwacking for a few hours back down to connect to the Hope Mountain Trail. Glad we made it down to trail & continue to hike Hope Mountain. My GPS tracker recorded under 15 km round-trip, elevation gain of 1158 meters, it was consider difficult with steep up's & down's plus some route finding. Took me & my hiking buddies 9 hours to complete both peaks. Glad to tag these 2 peaks off my list.
Wells Peak - 5 km round-trip, elevation gain of 675 meters (1863 meters from sea level), average grade 27%, rated as difficult, average time 5 hours.
Hope Mountain - 10 km round-trip, elevation gain of 660 meters (1844 meters from sea level), average grade 13.2% rated as intermediate/difficult with some steep sections.
