Benitses in Corfu - a magnificent charm of Mountain & Sea
Benitses is one of the most famous resorts in Corfu.
It is geographically located approximately in the center of the island and it is built on the national road Corfu –Lefkimmi, next to the sea. There you will find small and large touristy lodgings, restaurants, taverns and naturally, fish taverns which, Benitses is famous for.
In front of the village is situated the organized beach with fine pebbles and also a marina where, vessels can anchor with all the services provided. In the village you can also find clinics, pharmacies and a police station.
Benitses offers an intense nightlife with numerous clubs and bars along the seaside road. You must visit the Sea Museum which, displays a large collection of sea-shells, sea-sponges and fossils.
In Benitses, Roman baths with mosaic floors have been discovered, a fact which, proves that this village has a long history. The first written sources about Benitses are dated back to 1469. In the past, the main occupation of the inhabitants was fishing and the cultivation of citrus trees and olive trees. Today, the majority of the residents are occupied with tourism. It is worthwhile mentioning the cultural club of Benitses which, is very active in trying to keep traditions alive as well as the spiritual culture of the residents of the village, high.
From Benitses you can visit Achillion , one of the most significant sights of the island, you can see Kaiser’s Bridge on the road to Perama and you can also stroll on its verdant trail towards the more mountainous village, Stavros. On this route you will also see an impressive waterfall, hidden away by the dense vegetation.
Benitses have very good transportation to the city of Corfu with daily and very frequent service of buses and KTEL. There is also a taxi-stand in the village. Benitses is also connected by road to the port of Lefkimmi, situated 25 kilometers away.

Ionian Princess Hotel Corfu - Mediocre
This is a review of our all-inclusive stay at the Ionian Princess Hotel at Acharavi in Corfu in August 2011. We were very diappointed with this hotel which we consider very mediocre. Although supposed to be a 4* hotel, we would say it's really a 2*+ or a 2 and a half star hotel.
The beach is very disappointing. It's advertised as being a 7km long sandy beach, but we found it to be narrow and stony. In my opinion the hotel website is grossly misleading. The beach is about 200m from the hotel along a public road, so not really sutiable for young children unaccompanied by adults. The beach is open to the public. Very annoyingly the hotel charges extra for sun loungers and parasols on the beach (they're not included in your all inclusive deal). The bar on the beach charges extra for drinks, again these are not included in your deal. The beach is very exposed and the sea is rough even on calm days, so in our view, not a good beach for families with young children. Also the hotel does not provide beach or pool towels.
Food was particularly bad. We found very little choice and low quality. Food was tasteless and we got the impression that the hotel's philosophy was to spend as little as possible. This created a sense of being cheated.
Drink was also very poor. We found no diet cola available at all; soft drinks were poured from Freeway branded bottles (this is the cheap brand available at the LIDL supermarket). Drinks were flat and warm. No spirits were avaialbe and beer was weak and watery. Ice cream at the pool came from a grubby and unsavoury looking machine.
Children's entertainment was very poor. There were 2 entertainers (animation team) and they did their best, but were clearly over-worked. We were told that originally there had been 4 entertainers, but this had been reduced to save money. During our stay one of the entertainers went on strike. She claimed not to have been paid for more than 8 weeks. She claimed that many staff at the hotel had also not been paid. I can't verify her claim, but it would certainly explain the sullen and unfriendly behaviour of many we encountered. Most of the advertised activites did not take place which meant our children were bored and started bickering. All of this made life very stressful for us. It wasn't a holiday, more of an anti holiday.
We recommend avoiding this hotel if you're looking for a family holiday. Hope this review helps you.
