MORE THAN JUST A MIRROR
8.25min
A 2000 year old decorated Iron Age mirror was found by a metal detectorist in South Oxfordshire, UK, in 2006. This film documents a museum project to take metallurgical samples for research into the mirror’s origins and its possible relationship to a second mirror found 40 miles away. The film also considers the wider significance of this enigmatic object, and its possible role in ritual or magical beliefs of the ancient Britons who made it. The film features interviews with David Moon, Curator of Archaeology, Oxfordshire Museums Services. Dr Peter Northover, Metallurgy and Archaeology and Miranda Aldhouse-Green, Professor of Archaeology, Cardiff University.
Supported by Funding (HEIF Award)Higher Education Innovation Fund
Producers: David Moon (Curator of Archaeology, Oxfordshire Museum Services) Sharon Woodward (Woodwardmedia)

Friends and Lovers by Russell Highsmith - Full Play
Singles Night a new play by Shadowlight Artist Russell Highsmith.
was performed on 19th & 20th September 2018, at the Old Fire Station, Oxford,
Life is happening. Love is all around. Emma and James are flatmates; they’ve been friends forever, and are looking for their fairytale endings. When Amber pops up with her dating agency, “Friends ‘n’ Lovers”, what could possibly go wrong?
Presented as part of Film Oxford’s Shadowlight Artists Project, Singles Night is the new play by Russell Highsmith, a hemiplegic writer with learning disabilities. His 2016 play The Big Shock was performed at the Cornerstone in Didcot. His particular situation gives him a wry, sideways perspective on life but it’s a view that is always extraordinarily upbeat and optimistic.
Once again, he has teamed up with writer and director Mark Ralph-Bowman (With You Always, OFS 2016) for another story about the comedy and pain of falling in love.
The Shadowlight Artists Project is a group of professional artists with learning disabilities, supported by Film Oxford and funded by Arts Council of England. Their exhibition, Rising ran 19 October – 10 November at Modern Art Oxford and Old Fire Station Gallery. Singles Night was performed by professional actors.
Cast:
Alexander Hopwood – James
Francesca Louise White – Emma
Megan McInerney – Beth
Marcus Davis-Orrom – Pat
Jenny Johns – Amber
Otto Baxter - Ryan
“Russell is remarkable. He writes from the heart and that is why his work is so touching and true.” – Paul Mayhew-Archer (writer, comedian and former BBC editor)

About the show:
“There is something, way down deep that’s eternal about every human being... And that’s what’s left when memory is gone.”
Thornton Wilder – Our Town
Part of British Council Edinburgh Showcase 2017 and following a sell-out run at the 2017 London International Mime Festival, Theatre Re presents a powerful, explosive and joyous piece about what is left when memory is gone.
Tom is 55, today. As he dresses for his party, tangled threads of disappearing memories spark him into life, unravelling as a tale of friendship, love and guilt.
About Theatre Re:
Theatre Re is a London-based international ensemble creating thought-provoking, tangible and poignant work. Its shows examine fragile human conditions, in a compelling, physical style embracing mime, theatre and live music. The name of the company comes from the prefix ‘re’. It is the ‘re’ of re-discovering and re-imagining, breathing new life into what already exists.
Since 2011, Theatre Re’s productions have engaged 121 artists, reached over 21 400 people and engaged 3113 participants. Theatre Re’s Blind Man’s Song and The Nature of Forgetting have both premiered as part of the London International Mime Festival (LIMF’15 and LIMF’17). The Nature of Forgetting was part of the British Council Edinburgh Showcase 2017 and will tour extensively nationally (West Yorkshire Playhouse, The Lowry, The Gulbenkian, The Maclive, Tobacco Factory Theatres) and internationally (Brazil, Peru, USA, South-Korea, Taiwan, China, France) in 2018 and 2019.
