Easter Monday in the Coptic Calendar is a national holiday when families picnic on the beach and go swimming in the Nile. This video shows a busy Corniche in Luxor, Egypt, just below Luxor Temple.
Luxor Museum
Luxor Museum is located in the Egyptian city of Luxor (ancient Thebes). It stands on the corniche, overlooking the west bank of the River Nile, in the central part of the city.
Inaugurated in 1975, the museum is housed in a small, purpose-built building. The range of artifacts on display is far more restricted than the country's main collections in the Museum of Antiquities in Cairo; this was, however, deliberate, since the museum prides itself on the quality of the pieces it has, the uncluttered way in which they are displayed, and the clear multilingual labeling used.
Among the most striking items on show are grave goods from the tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62) and a collection of 26 exceptionally well preserved New Kingdom statues that were found buried in a cache in nearby Luxor Temple in 1989. The royal mummies of two pharaohs - Ahmose I and Ramesses I - were also put on display in the Luxor Museum in March 2004, as part of the new extension to the museum, which includes a small visitor centre. A major exhibit is a reconstruction of one of the walls of Akhenaten's temple at Karnak. One of the featured items in the collection is a calcite double statue of the crocodile god Sobek and the 18th Dynasty pharaoh Amenhotep III.
ALEXANDRIA, EXPLORING the fascinating WATERFRONT or CORNICHE (EGYPT)
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's walk along the Corniche which is a waterfront promenade corniche in Alexandria, Egypt, running along the Eastern Harbour. It is one of the major corridors for traffic in Alexandria. The Corniche is formally designated 26 of July Road west of Mansheya and El Geish Road east of it; however, these names are rarely used.
Italian-Egyptian architect Pietro Avoscani designed it in 1870.
Egypt, a country linking northeast Africa with the Middle East, dates to the time of the pharaohs. Millennia-old monuments sit along the fertile Nile River Valley, including Giza's colossal Pyramids and Great Sphinx as well as Luxor's hieroglyph-lined Karnak Temple and Valley of the Kings tombs. The capital, Cairo, is home to Ottoman landmarks like Muhammad Ali Mosque and the Egyptian Museum, a trove of antiquities.

{{ EGYPT }} - Al Uqsr / Luxor Trip, Echoes From The Ancient City
Echoes From The Ancient City is a project that has been on the backburner since the latter part of 2008.
From the 4th floor balcony of our hotel room along the Corniche of Luxor, for an hour I captured the sights and sounds of a city that becomes even more interesting after dark. The first evening location recordings had to be destroyed due to the strong gusts of wind (I had very basic recording equipment back then) but perseverance paid off and the following evening another hour of sound was recorded under (almost) breeze-free conditions.
From an audio perspective the idea was to compile these sounds and create a low level, minimalistic ambient theme to run through it but one that didn't detract too much from the visuals or the city sounds. The music had to be an accompaniment, not something that could work on it's own and as the film progresses, the music weaves in and out of the background, just like ourselves, as visitors going further and further into the populated residential areas. My preferred method of recording is spontaneous, and the piece was recorded in one take using an improvised, direct to cdr approach. In effect this now works either as a visual or audio immersion experience of the great city - low volume recommended.
With an introduction to video editing last year and with music studio upgrades in early 2012 the project finally became possible and, after 3 and a half years I now present to you the sights and the sounds of the ancient city, 2008 style with an added 2012 mix.
As for the visuals they were taken over a period of a few days when myself and my brother would grab our cameras and head off into the unknown with a great deal of anticipation -- we are both avid explorers and I was particularly keen to avoid the tourist part of the city and document the sections beyond. I wanted to explore how people lived and this was to prove a far more worthwhile journey past the slight commercial façade beyond the market and temple. With a fascination of the past and particularly ancient civilisations, before conducting the walks I never appreciated quite how amazing the modern day element of the visit would be in contrast, or on the face of it, less so.
Luxor is an amazing city that completely avoids the aspects of the high rise, post modern commercialism of cities like Cairo, for example. It is a place that is steeped in the past and one that, on the face of it appears to have remained stagnant through time, but because of this aspect it is one of the most incredible cities I have visited, so far in my life. I hope this video will give you a good insight into Luxor as a city and also modern Egypt
