This is a joy-flight in a restored Tiger Moth over Lilydale airfield in Victoria. Had the pilot James Bate do some aerobatics and chase a toilet roll down cutting it on the way to the ground. Awesome way to spend an afternoon!

Port Macquarie
Back in Australia!
Once again orbx has been kind enough to let me create this video using a late beta build of their latest scenery for Australia (AU Gold) YPMQ Port Macquarie V3.
The quality of the scenery is shown in so many things, starting from the PeopleFlow action and nice grass textures at the airport, the shopping mall at the river and lots of different and amazingly designed houses and appartment buildings near the beach.
My personal highlight are the grafitti paintings on many of the buildings, which makes the city appear even more real.
The scenery includes the complete city of Port Macquarie and is just a hop away from Coffs Harbour. Definately a must-buy for orbx-users..!!

Restoration of VH-REM (Sugar Bird Lady)
Nurse Robin Miller became a Pilot and used both qualifications to distribute Sabin Polio vaccine in sugar cubes to remote areas of Western Australia. She became Sugar Bird Lady. A replica of her aircraft was until 2013, on a plinth at Jandakot Airport. This is the story of its restoration.

Robinson R22: Lesson 13 Introduction to Autorotations (Full Lesson)
This lesson is an introduction to autorotations: The ability to safely land the helicopter without engine power. The physics behind this manoeuvre is pretty complex, but in summary the loss of engine power converts the rotor disk from a ‘fan’ to a ‘windmill’ and as you drop in altitude the rotor RPM is maintained which allows you to control the ship as per normal. Once you are near the ground, forward speed and decent rate are halted with a cyclic ‘flare’ and then the remaining energy stored in the rotor disk is used to cushion the final landing.
In practice the procedure for the pilot is as follows:
When engine failure is detected, immediately drop collective in a one-second time frame
The secondary effects of losing torque and lowering collective is the nose will pitch down and the ship will yaw left. Correct with rear cyclic and right pedal.
All three control inputs should be conducted simultaneously and the amount is ‘as required’.
The goal is to reach and maintain 60 knots airspeed, rotor RPM middle-top of green range, helicopter in trim and vectored towards a clear landing area. The pilot must be mindful of all of the secondary and tertiary effects of controls. Ie. rear cyclic or lower collective will increase rotor RPM towards red line and vice versa will decay rotor rpm.
The flare manoeuvre will be further explored next lesson.
I didn’t do so well keeping to the correct autorotation parameters and let a few bad habits slip in (turning with pedals). Hopefully I do better next time.
Stinson L5B restored from a wreck
John Markham tells how he found a wrecked Stinson L5B in a hangar in Ahmedabad in India and brought it to Perth, Australia where it has been restored. That entailed huge struggles. He also talks about the Brodie Landing System with which adapted aircraft can take-off and be recovered without an airstrip.
