Morar Amarone della Valpolicella Doc Classico 2007 -- Valentina Cubi (Fumane, VR)
Near the city of Verona, in the hills of Valpolicella, lies Valentina Cubi farm. The family owned estate, led by its namesake Valentina Cubi, consists of some 13 hectares of vineyards and olive groves.
The vineyards, all converted into organic viticulture, deliver the raw material for the production of genuine Valpolicella, Amarone and Recioto wines, based on the indigenous Corvina grape variety, supported by Corvinone and Rondinella.
The estate doesn' t aim at richly extracted wines; it wants to bring out freshness, elegance and a sense of origin in the wines, for which these vineyards provide the perfect raw material. Every wine take its name from the nature and the history of this land. It is also the case of the Amarone della Valpolicella Morar, the ancient name of mulberry plant.
Obtained from grapes dried in fruttaio (grape-drying building) for more than 100 days, where the sugar fermentation is completed, Amarone is one of the most enduring wines among the great Italian wines. Morar has a beautiful, concentrated medium ruby colour. Perfumed and elegant, with lifted dark cherry and cassis fruit, aromas of vanilla pod, cinnamon bark, and dark, spicy chocolate. Fresh and succulent on the palate, with lovely tannic grip and a long cherry and spice finish. For its characteristics it pairs meat-based main courses, game or seasoned cheese

What I Drank Yesterday Allegrini
The Allegrini family has played a leading role in the history of Fumane and of Valpolicella since the 16th century and has passed on the culture of wine-making from generation to generation. Notarial records reveal that the family played a prominent role in the local community as one of the most important land-owners, involved in agricultural work and local traditions.
The Allegrini company may be considered the result of the intelligence and hard work of Giovanni Allegrini, who was a straight forward, instinctive man who built an agricultural concern that was solid, efficient and innovative. He started working at a very young age and perfected the art of wine-making with great skill and an all-encompassing passion. He was given the evocative nickname the barrel spider because in the cellar he would proudly invite guests to taste his wine, and whilst listening to comments and opinions, spring like a spider from one precious barrel to another.
The life-style, history and culture of Giovanni still represent, today, the key to understanding the philosophy and reasons behind the success of Allegrini. After the premature death of Giovanni in1983, his three offspring took over the company and have run it ever since with impassioned enthusiasm and ever-increasing skill and competence.
Franco learnt from his father how to 'inter-connect' with wine and over time he has shown an intrinsic flair for this delicate and extremely important core aspect of the company's activities. Thanks to his enthusiasm and the fine-tuning of his experience over the years, today he is considered one of the finest winemakers in Italy.
Marilisa has been responsible for marketing since 1980: guided by an instinctive passion for wine, she promotes Allegrini wines and the Valpolicella area throughout the world. When she presents a wine, she tells the story of its history, where it comes from, how it pairs with food, the labours of those who work in the vineyards and the efforts made to unite tradition and innovation.
Marilisa also cast her eye further afield to other areas of Italy renowned for their viticultural excellence and set out on a fascinating 'adventure' in Tuscany: in 2001, with her brother Walter, she founded Poggio al Tesoro in Bolgheri and in 2006, in partnership with Leonardo Lo Cascio, she purchased San Polo, a beautiful Estate in Montalcino.
Love for the land has been the driving force behind the Allegrini family's commitment to enhancing the potential of Valpolicella and its viticultural traditions. The far-sighted choices made by the company have made it one of the leading wine companies in Italy, and thus the new generation of wine-makers in Valpolicella look to Allegrini wines as an indisputable benchmark.
