Mahahual Mexico - Costa Maya and The Lost Mayan Kingdom | 90+ Countries with 3 Kids
Mahahual was once a quiet and small fishing village located far away from the Riviera Maya in the southernmost reaches of Quintana Roo. Now a popular Caribbean cruise ship port, and much easier to reach by land, the village of Mahahual still retains a rustic and laid-back charm.
Join us for a tour and discover an amazing themed waterpark called Mayá.
Here you can follow the steps of the great expeditioner Stephen Johnson in his quest to find the Lost Mayan Kingdom on a fun-filled journey with thrilling zip lines, exciting hanging bridges, a twisty Kukulcan zip-coaster and adrenaline-packed water slides

Costa Maya Cruise Port - Trolley Ride To Mahahual - 11/21/2018
The Trolley ride from Puerta Costa Maya Cruise Port to the beautiful ocean-front town of Mahahual is approximately 16 minutes and cost $4.00 USD PP. This scenic slow ride can be a bit noisy and bumpy but gets you there while enjoying the views of the quaint, lush surroundings. The Trolleys are located in the back of the port where you would exit to get taxis.
Costa Maya, Mexico || Mahahual Mexico || Royal Liberty of the Seas Port of call || Family Cruise
We are family of 5 from Texas. Chris, Jolene, Carter (10), Chase (8) and Caleb (7).
We desire more than suburbia life. We are selling everything and moving to a boat by summer 2019. In the meantime, we still travel, explore and love to spend time as a family doing lots of things.
In Jan, 2019 we took a Family Cruise on Royal Caribbean. Our second port of call was Costa Maya Mexico. We were way more impressed with this city than expected!
Once we made our way out of the port we bought tickets for a tram for $4 per person to take us to a local beach and cafe, Tropicante, on the beach of Mahahual.
The cafe waiter was so kind and gracious to find us chairs for all day, no charge. The boys wanted to try a coconut. The waiter walked you over near the street and cuts it open right there for you.
The coconut got a thumbs up!
After lunch, we got in the water. The water here was so pretty light blue. We played in the shore for a bit before heading out to snorkel.
The bottom was very sandy with patches of sea grass. We saw a few fish swimming here and there.
We found a bunch of conch shells. All were living so we couldn’t take them.
Halfway out to the reef the underwater camera battery died (it had so much use in Honduras)
Although it was not filmed the reef was very rocky and very shallow. Carter and Jolene tried to make it over, but after walking across a few feet of hard rocks we gave up and swam back.
We took a taxi back and found our way through the port. Carter broke his flip flop right when we were walking around, so we stopped to buy new flip flops and they all got so excited about spinning tops, which they called Mexican Bauy blades….
The port in Costa Maya had a pool, beach access, a bar, and lots of entertainment. Many people just stayed in port and shopped.
The pier here was almost half a mile long. It sure made for a long walk back. When you return the cruise ships provide shade and water before entering.
Next time we will be at our last port of call Cozumel.
We’d love to have you join us and inspire you to live with more purpose! Please subscribe to see more.

Mahahual Mexico Bicycle Tour - Port of Costa Maya YouTube HD
From the Port of Costa Maya, the cruise ship terminal, one of the tours offered is a bicycle tour to a beach in Mahahual, a kayaking experience with some time to swim and then the return bike ride.
The bike ride is easy for all ages as the terrain is flat and or the most part paved. Cindy filmed this basically while riding with one hand and filming with the other.

???????? Costa Maya Cruise Port ???????? | Should You Cruise Here? | Cruise Port Review | 2019
What is there to do in the Costa Maya Cruise Port? Should you do an excursion? Just get off the ship & explore? We'll answer all of that!
On our recent cruise aboard the Norwegian Breakaway one of our cruise ports was Costa Maya Mexico. We wanted to explore the port and figure out if you really should book an excursion at this port or if there is enough to do in the port of Costa Maya.
One question we had was should we book an excursion on our Norwegian Breakaway cruise at this port and honestly we were not sure so let us answer that question for you about Costa Maya.
This is a pretty large port built by the cruise industry / private companies but that doesn't make it any less cool. Costa Maya Mexico has lots to offer however if you are looking for an authentic Mexican experience you may be disappointed. That said Costa Maya has so very much to offer you from small shops to dolphin swims, bird Aviary, Tequila Tour and even more to give you an authentic Mexican experience.
Costa Maya Mexico was also the place we had a bit of a personal meltdown over our debit/credit cards so we'll also tell you that story so be sure to stay tuned.
Overall Costa Maya was a great port on our Norwegian Breakaway vacation but there are some draw backs.
Happy Travels!

Mahahual, Mexico - We've NEVER seen anything like this (In a bad way)
We spent one week in the beach paradise Mahahual (Mexico) and it was NOTHING like what we expected.
►Want to learn Spanish? Try what we use:
Mahahual, a town in the state of Quintana Roo is commonly known as Costa Maya. It's the only place we've visited in Mexico where almost 100% of its income is from cruise ship travelers. This makes for an interesting dynamic—one we really don't like, frankly.
Having 1-3 Mexico cruise ships stopping at Costa Maya very easily explains many of the strange things we found in this town. All the locals are catering directly to those visitors because they support the local economy. They speak English with you. You can pay in US dollars. Everyone who works in Mahahual is there to help these Mexico cruise ship travelers have a great time during their day in town.
But watch out! Once the cruise ships leave, most of the restaurants, shops, and activities will close their doors. It looks like a ghost town once Mahahual when no ships are docked.
In this Mexico travel video, we give you some tips on how to make your stay in Mahahual more enjoyable and affordable.
Mahahual, Quintana Roo is certainly beautiful....but is it worth it?

Costa Maya, Mexico - Costa Maya Shopping and Entertainment Complex (2019)
Costa Maya is a small tourist region in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico, the only state bounded by the Caribbean Sea to its east. This municipality is close to Chetumal (capital of the state) on the border with Belize. The area was generally undeveloped but has been growing rapidly since construction of a large pier to accommodate cruise ships. Costa Maya is also the name of a subdivision near the village of Mahahual. The beach extends from Xcalak in the south to the southern border of Sian Ka'an in the north, a distance of approximately 100 kilometers (62 mi).
Xcalak is approximately 60 kilometers (37 mi) south of the Costa Maya cruise port, and the fishing village of Mahahual is only about 3 kilometers (1.9 mi) away. Cruise ships can easily be seen from the village. Mahahual has soft sand beaches, grass thatched palapas, and a coral reef a short distance off-shore called Banco Chinchorro, as well as several bars, restaurants, and shops. A new development called New Mahahual is being created directly inland from the port. When ships are in port, the village is busy with cruise passengers.
Costa Maya's port has a new and modern tourist shopping mall. The center has a central plaza with saltwater pools and 'swim-up' style bars. There are several jewelery stores and many small shops selling ubiquitous souvenir items. It is generally open only to cruise ship passengers.
Costa Maya is the closest port of access to many of the lesser-known Mayan ruins in the Yucatan including Chacchoben and Kohunlich. These sites are substantially less excavated than the better-known pyramids of Tulum and Coba to the north; Chichen Itza and Uxmal in Yucatan.
The port sustained heavy damage due to Hurricane Dean in August 2007. This included the dock designed for cruise ships. Holland America's Westerdam was the first cruise ship to return to the port since Hurricane Dean on October 31, 2008.

Krazy lobster Restaurant, Mahahual,Mexico, is a wonderful hidden gem ???? of a restaurant in Mahahual, Mexico, if you are visiting the port of Costa Maya, ensure you get to Krazy lobster , food is fantastic. How do you get krazy lobster, well get away from the tourist attraction to the back and walk for 5 mins down the only road that leaves costa maya, grab a taxi for 8 dollars, and tell them you want to go to krazy lobster, and there you got it, enjoy.
