Hotel Casa Marbella - Mal Pais, Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
Welcome to Casa MarBella Hotel Mal Pais Costa Rica. Experience the unprecedented beauty of local scenery at Hotel Casa Marbella Malpais, Costa Rica.
Comfortable ambiance in the midst of the Costa Rica tropics. Hotel Casa Marbella is a boutique hotel in Malpais Costa Rica, centrally located in Santa Teresa across the street from the beach overlooking the Pacific Ocean of Costa Rica.
Surrounding Area
Santa Teresa/Mal Pais Area
The towns of Santa Teresa and Mal Pais sort of blend together as one. There is only one main road that runs along the coast and for the first time it can be a bit confusing.
However, when most people say Mal Pais, they are referring to the Mal Pais/Santa Teresa area in general and use them interchangeably.
Santa Teresa is located in the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula in the Guanacaste region. It is characterized by broad, white sand beaches with picturesque backdrops around every corner and dramatic sunsets.
This area enjoys warm and clear water with world class waves available. The beach combing here is second to none. At lower tides you can find numerous tide pools hidden along the rock outcroppings complete with colorful tropical fish.
As you walk through town you will most likely encounter howler monkeys, iguanas, green parrots, red squirrels and birds of all types.
Once here, it is easy to see why these beaches were named the Top Ten Most Pristine Beaches in the World by Forbes magazine. It has earned the prestigious Bandera Azul (Blue Flag) ranking which is awarded to clean, ecologically friendly areas by the government.
Besides the natural scenic beauty, there are a variety of restaurants, bars, and shops making it a destination that has something for everyone. People from all over the world have all become neighbors and business owners in this little slice of Costa Rica.
Mel Gibson in Costa Rica Luxury Homes Costa Rica/Costa Rica Mansions/Real Estate Costa Rica
$29,750,000 USD PRICE
Located in Playa Barrigona, Nicoya, Guanacaste. This region is known for its dazzling white-sand beaches and untouched tropical splendor.
A property transformed from a cattle ranch into an exquisite family retreat. Situated amid 400 acres of privately owned jungle, the villas of Playa Barrigona are tropical retreats unlike any other. Each of the three homes is nestled on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific Ocean. A secluded white-sand beach is a short walk away, and the vibrant sights and sounds of the jungle envelop the grounds.
The property is expansive, meticulously maintained and ultimately private. With its multiple homes and outbuildings, this is the ideal family retreat and can easily accommodate extremely large extended families.
Custom-fitted with native Costa Rican woods and Spanish and Italian tiles, each villa claims a generous layout, including a living room with vaulted ceilings, a full kitchen, and multiple verandahs looking out over stunning jungle and ocean vistas. A private pool, full air conditioning, and barbecue areas complete the amenities at each residence.
The largest of the villas, Casa Guanacaste, encompasses seven bedrooms and eight baths. Each of the two smaller villas feature two bedrooms and are enhanced with additional living spaces (a poolside cottage in Casa Barrigona and a loft in Casa Dorada).
The nearby villages of Samara and Nosara offer quaint restaurants and shops, but peace and quiet are the hallmarks of this stunning estate. Playa Barrigona is easily reached by plane or car. International visitors can arrive into either San José or Liberia airports. From the airport, a drive or a short commuter flight will provide direct access to Carrillo or Nosara.

Mel Gibson's $29.75million Costa Rican jungle estate
Famed actor and filmmaker Mel Gibson has decided to part with his Costa Rican jungle bungalow for just under $30million, with the stunning compound featuring large stretches of beaches and three separate homes.
More impressive than the 11 bedrooms and three hilltop villas that the property boasts of is the 400 acres of private forest and more than two miles of coastline in the remote area of the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica.
The man behind the blockbuster Braveheart and Road Warrior is willing to let go of the sprawling estate for $29.75million, dropping the price $500,000 from when he previously listed the home in 2014.

Isla Tortuga Costa Rica
January 2, 2016 - Phil and I left Santa Teresa at 8 am to spend the day snorkeling and relaxing on Turtle Island, a popular tourist attraction, which is actually comprised of two uninhabited islands on Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula. We went through Zuma Tours for our day tour and it was great. Aside from beer, watermelon and pineapple on the boat, we had fresh-caught fish with potatoes and chips for lunch. After lunch we visited the only shop on Isla Tortuga and bought all our souvenirs for our family. We were home just in time for sunset on Banana Beach and watched it with another couple we met that day from Miami.

7 Unexpected Things In Costa Rica
This video is about things we didn’t know about or expect when we planned our trip to Costa Rica. There are always surprises when you go to new countries so we’d like to share unexpected things with you!
Comments Disabled by YouTube. Following link below to forum for commenting:
Our unexpected things included:
It was more expense than we expected., Costa Rica is still considered a third world country, which means that the poor far outnumber the middle class so we expected things like accommodations and car rentals to be much cheaper. However, be prepared to pay North American prices for these things. There are budget options for accommodations like hostels and cheaper hotels but if you’re not looking to travel on a budget, it isn’t that cheap. Eating out at local sodas (local restaurants) is inexpensive costing only $4-$7 a meal and the food is so delicious!
It takes a lot longer to get places that we expected. The distances are quite short as Costa Rica is a small country but roads are usually windy, slower and some are unpaved and single lane. It took us often twice the time we expected to get anywhere. We also got lost using the wrong App so when you’re there make sure you use WAZE.
Parking Security - something you will pay for when visiting popular beaches and national parks. A lot attendant will charge you to watch over your car while you are away. Always have some cash on hand for this and the cost is only a couple hundred colones.
If you are looking for decaf Coffee, you will have a hard time. Costa Rica proudly grows their own coffee beans and it is a major export. I think decaf is thought as inferior coffee so they don’t have much of it around.
Scorpions glow at night. This was such a fun find for us! They glow blue-green under a black light from a coating in their exoskeleton. Plus scorpions in Costa Rica are NOT deadly.
Night walks are a fun activity to do as you learn a lot about the animals in Costa Rica. The rainforest really comes alive at night too!
Airport Departure Tax is not usually covered on your airline ticket and you will have to pay it at a special counter at the airport before checking in for your flight. Beware of scammers trying to charge you and double check your ticket just to make sure it isn’t already included. The cost was $29 US per person.
We hope these insights of our unexpected things will help you in your trip planning to this truly amazing country!
