Visit the Cosumnes River Preserve
Join us on a tour of the Cosumnes River Preserve. Nestled in the heart of California's Central Valley, The Preserve is a critical stop on the Pacific Flyway for migrating and wintering waterfowl. Over 250 species of birds have been sighted on or near the Preserve, including the State-listed threatened Swainson hawk, greater and lesser sandhill cranes, Canada geese and numerous ducks.
Canoemobile 2019 visits the Cosumnes River
About 500 elementary and middle school students from California's Galt Joint Union Elementary School District and Davis Joint Unified School District participated in Wilderness Inquiry’s fourth annual Canoemobile. Students paddle in 24-foot Voyageur canoes and participate in environmental education activities at Cosumnes River Preserve.
Wilderness Inquiry’s Canoemobile program engages youth across the country in hands-on, outdoor learning experiences that are focused on academics and outdoor recreation. The Canoemobile program is collaboration with federal, state and local partners. This event would not be possible without the support from Preserve partners such as Galt Union Elementary School District, Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District and Sacramento County Regional Parks.
Established in 1978, Wilderness Inquiry is a non-profit organization that connects people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to the natural world through shared outdoor experiences. Wilderness Inquiry’s programs focus on integration, education, employment, health and wellness, with inclusivity and access to the outdoors for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
The Cosumnes River Preserve, which is managed by the Bureau of Land Management, includes 46,000 acres of central valley grasslands, vernal pools, wetlands and valley oak forests.

Wilderness Inquiry's Canoemobile visits Cosumnes River Preserve
Around 400 kids from the Galt Joint Union School District got the chance to get out on the water at Cosumnes River Preserve thanks to Wilderness Inquiry and their Canoemobile.
