Cottonwood Island Park Tree Carvings
The story behind the tree carvings in Cottonwood Island Nature Park.
Elmer is a former City of Prince George Parks employee who helped build the trails in the Park in the 1980’s. In 2005, he did eight carvings that were sponsored by the City of Prince George’s 90th Anniversary committee. Two of those carvings have been lost due to flooding along the Nechako River.
In 2016, six more carvings were added with funding from a City of Prince George Community Enhancement grant. Eight more carvings were added in 2017 to bring the total to 20 carvings.

Cottonwood Island Trail Closed
Beautiful weather today to be outside, but visitors to Cottonwood Island are not able to access the entire park. Viewer video shows trees that have fallen into the Nechako River. They have since been swept away by the flowing water. The City of Prince George has closed a portion of the park due to unstable ground. According to the city, the bank is eroding and experts will not know the full extent of the damage until water levels recede. For public safety, this trail system will remain closed until further notice; likely several weeks.

'The Snowiest in 40 years': February's snowfall by the numbers
According to statistics from Environment Canada, last month was the snowiest February in Prince George since 1979 – a fact many residents will not find difficult to believe. In total, the City received about 86.8 centimeters (nearly three feet) of snow and 66.9 centimeters (more than two feet) of that fell within a one week period between February 2 and February 9.
The effort to clean the City’s roughly 700 kilometers of roads and nearly 200 kilometers of sidewalks was a joint effort of City crews and local contractors. Together, they mobilized 12 graders, 8 plow trucks, 13 loaders, and 13 contracted dump trucks to clear City streets. City and contracted crews were working at full capacity 24 hours a day, seven days a week for 31 days straight. In fact, Priority One and Priority Two routes had to be plowed multiple times during the heaviest periods of snowfall.
Roughly 500 dump truck loads of snow per day were removed from the streets to clear windrows. In total, more than 13,000 truckloads equaling 261,100 cubic meters of snow were hauled to City snow disposal facilities during the month of February. That is enough snow to fill the CN Centre four times.
In addition to road crews, staff with the City’s parks division provided snow clearing for the more than two dozen civic facilities, including the pools, arenas, libraries, and Canada Games Plaza. They also cleared approximately 20 kilometers of the City’s most popular trails, such as those in Ginter’s Meadow, Cottonwood Island Nature Park, and Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.

- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain

SUMMARY
=======
Alberta ( (listen)) is a western province of Canada. With an estimated population of 4,067,175 as of 2016 census, it is Canada's fourth most populous province and the most populous of Canada's three prairie provinces. Its area is about 660,000 square kilometres (250,000 sq mi). Alberta and its neighbour Saskatchewan were districts of the Northwest Territories until they were established as provinces on September 1, 1905. The premier has been Rachel Notley since May 2015.
Alberta is bounded by the provinces of British Columbia to the west and Saskatchewan to the east, the Northwest Territories to the north, and the U.S. state of Montana to the south. Alberta is one of three Canadian provinces and territories to border only a single U.S. state and one of only two landlocked provinces. It has a predominantly humid continental climate, with stark contrasts over a year; but seasonal temperature average swings are smaller than in areas further east, due to winters being warmed by occasional chinook winds bringing sudden warming.Alberta's capital, Edmonton, is near the geographic centre of the province and is the primary supply and service hub for Canada's crude oil, the Athabasca oil sands and other northern resource industries.About 290 km (180 mi) south of the capital is Calgary, the largest city in Alberta. Calgary and Edmonton centre Alberta's two census metropolitan areas, both of which have populations exceeding one million, while the province has 16 census agglomerations.Tourist destinations in the province include Banff, Canmore, Drumheller, Jasper, Sylvan Lake and Lake Louise.
