YETI Presents: Cowtown
Saturday nights in Pilesgrove, NJ promise a stacked lineup of bucking broncos, raging bulls, and some gasp-worthy moments in-between. But behind the stadium lights and hollering of the crowd, you’ll find the Harris family. Through three generations, they’ve made Cowtown Rodeo the longest running weekly rodeo in the United States, bringing new fans to the sport since 1929. It’s taken a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and sacrifice to make it happen — but the Harris family wouldn’t have it any other way. Discover the enduring legacy of rodeoing just seven miles off the New Jersey turnpike in Cowtown.

Cowtown Rodeo Horses Sent to Slaughter
The rodeo industry claims it loves its animals, and claims to treat them like family. So why do rodeo stock contractors send their animals to slaughter?
In the latest example, Grant Harris, owner of the Cowtown Rodeo in Pilesgrove, New Jersey, sent nine horses to an auction which is widely known as a conduit for the horse slaughter industry. Cowtown called the horses unproductive.
Predictably, the horses were bought by a killer buyer. For anyone interested in the truth, that is a demonstration of how rodeos love their animals.
Cowtown is far from the first stock contractor to send horses to slaughter. Ike Sankey, owner of Sankey Rodeo Company, has admitted to the same thing. The Powder River Rodeo Company has a more direct way of dealing with the issue. Power River Rodeo, located in Wyoming, simply took their overstock of foals out to secluded public lands and shot them.
That's how rodeo loves its animals, including horses.

Horse Killed at Cowtown Rodeo
On Saturday, June 29, 2013, SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK) attended and filmed at the Cowtown Rodeo in Pilesgrove, NJ.
A number of bucking horses were shocked by a device which is prohibited by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), which sanctions the Cowtown Rodeo.
One of the shocked horses subsequently fell down, went into convulsions, and died.

Horse killed at the Cowtown Rodeo
SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK) is releasing video of a horse that was killed at the May 26, 2018 opening night of the Cowtown Rodeo, which is located in Pilesgrove, NJ.
The horse, whose name was Night Watch, slammed into a fence after being ridden. He then collapsed on the ground and began to convulse. Night Watch was then roughly tied up by rodeo handlers and unceremoniously dumped onto a piece of metal fence.
This is not the first time SHARK has filmed a horse being killed at Cowtown. In June of 2013, SHARK filmed a horse named Duke who died after being electro-shocked at Cowtown. (Video courtesy of SHARK)

SHARK Calls Out Lying Rodeo Owner
Grant Harris, owner of the Cowtown Rodeo in Pilesgrove, New Jersey, claimed he didn't allow horses to be shocked after one of his horses died. SHARK President Steve Hindi calls out Harris, and proves that SHARK had been exposing horses being shocked at the Cowtown Rodeo fives years BEFORE the death of Duke the horse.
