Crab and Winkle Way: Whitstable to Canterbury 30/07/17
Whitstable to Canterbury along the Crab and Winkle Way which runs, partly, along the route of an old railway line. A lovely ride (if a bit hilly!). Me on my HP Velotechnik Streetmachine and my dad on his Optima Rider trike.

Cross Country - Crab & Winkle Way
My cross country coach very kindly let me bring my drone along to the last session of the term. Here is a very short montage of the footage I got from it. Enjoy!

The Crab & Winkle line still ‘one of the best kept secrets’
The Crab & Winkle line is still ‘one of the best kept secrets’ in the South. We are making sure it won’t disappear through neglect.
The Crab and Winkle Line Trust was set up on the 3rd May 1997, when a few friends met at the pond (mid point) with a view to bring the old line back into public use for walkers, cyclists and the disabled. In 1999, we became a nationally-registered charity (Registered Charity no. 1077110).
Our vision is of a path along the old railway line taking local people and visitors along 6 traffic-free miles through unspoilt countryside and woodland from Canterbury to Whitstable. We hope that they’ll learn something of the old railway line along the way. The Trust now has two official addresses – one in Canterbury and one in Whitstable.
Objectives of the Trust
“To promote and assist, for the public benefit, the construction and maintenance of a public access route between Canterbury and Whitstable, including a pedestrian path and safe cycle route, along the historic railway route known as the Crab and Winkle Line, which will provide recreation facilities, promote environmental protection and reduce traffic congestion.”
“To advance the education of the public in the history of the old Canterbury to Whitstable railway, known as the Crab and Winkle Line.”

The Saxon Shore Way: Faversham to Whitstable 26 September 2017
Its been six months since I walked any of the Saxon Shore Way, and so I thought I'd better do a further stage of this long distance footpath. So here is the 10 mile section between Faversham and Whitstable via Seasalter. The first half of this walk was glorious with wide open landscapes; the second half was not so good with lots of road walking. The walk took place in sunny, but hazy, weather, on Tuesday 26 September 2017. Sorry about the wind noise, but this is probably inevitable on such a wide open coastal walk.
INTO THE WOODS ON A DISUSED RAILWAY LINE
I left Whitstable to explore the woods by bicycle. The Crab and Winkle Way is a disused railway line that leads to Canterbury through Blean Woods. I also managed to find a footpath to take my walking group along, bonus!
