Tuatara Brewery - Crafting New Zealandness
We were lucky enough to have the opportunity in making a video for the super unique and fun Tuatara Brewery! What a fantastic time it was.
We quickly found that Tuatara Brewery was more than just a Brewery.
CraftMe.co NZ Australian arts & crafts online gift shopping for indie crafters and fashion designers
The gift-giving season is here and I have been spending some time thinking about what gifts I shall be giving my family and friends. In the busy holidays, I have been known to 'misplace' my Christmas spirit somewhere between the mad dash from store to store and the long, tedious lines for the cashier. Fortunately, with CraftMe I can cut down on my store visits and retain a sense of a heartfelt Christmas.
I like to support local & independent stores so if I see a great gift for someone I love, I grab it. But because I can't resist this seasonal opportunity to get creative in my studio, I like to think of ways I can combine these store-bought items with my own handmade offerings. CraftMe is a helping me to get affordable but unique handmade gifts. Presenting someone with a new piece of jewellery in a sweet handmade purse can be a nice touch, or think about a new mobile for your friend's new born baby.
Check out the art supplies section where you can get craft project ideas. I made a coin purse from a pattern and the frames are widely available for purchase online on CraftMe. Children can be the easiest people to make things and CraftMe.co has range of patterns, books and tutorials available for all kinds of clothing, accessories and toys. Try a range of fabric and stencils, using fabric paints using heat, to create your own baby doll and to kit her out with a fine set of handmade clothes or miniature cloth diapers. How about buying a wooden doll crib and making a pretty doll-sized quilt or new bedding set?
There are plenty of ways to bring a little handmade spirit to your Christmas morning. Once you get thinking, you will come up with no end of ideas for creating unique and heartfelt gift combinations for your loved ones. As long as you get started early, I think you will have more time to relax, sit back and enjoy the season. For sure, craftme.co will give you so many ideas; just browse the variety of arts and crafts made by Australian and New Zealanders, support local communities, and get ready for Christmas.

MYELE MANZANZA
For the last 6 years Myele has turned heads internationally traveling the globe with New Zealand's acclaimed ELECTRIC WIRE HUSTLE. Last year he stepped out on his own with the worldwide release of his bold debut solo album ONE on BBE Records and now MYELE heads to the U.S. for the first time to lead his own musical project the MYELE MANZANZA TRIO, teaming up with a couple outstanding Kiwi prodigies MARK DE CLIVE-LOWE on keys and BEN SHEPHERD on bass + the very welcome addition of Miguel Atwood-Ferguson's strings !
Critically regarded in Australasia as a fearless drummer, Myele was introduced to the language of the drum and traditional African rhythms from an early age. As the son of Congolese master percussionist, Myele's upbringing was steeped in the tradition of rhythm. As a child he performed on hand drums with his father, Sam, who was also one of the first Africans to perform traditional African Afrobeat and High Life music in New Zealand but it wasn't until Myele was 14 that he started playing kit.
Myele was selected as the sole NZ representative to the Red Bull Music Academy in London, alongside the likes of Katy B, Tokimonsta. This marked a turning point in his career and wielding the acquired knowledge from the tutelage of Flying Lotus, Roots Manuva, Hudson Mohawke, Moodyman, Dr Peter Zinovieff and DJ Zinc set him on a path towards crafting his own solo album ONE just out via BBE Records late last year.
An album which deftly draws a line between traditional African music, classic jazz, golden age hip-hop and R 'n B and the skipping percussive impulses of modern bass music Myele's solo debut features an impressive diversity of musicianship and guest musicians including Mark de Clive-Lowe, Ladi6, Mara TK, Rachel Fraser & Bella Kalolo.
To realize this opus in a live format the overzealous Myele now leads two musical projects, this TRIO with it's US Debut performance at the Blue Whale with US based Kiwi ex-pats Mark de Clive-Lowe on keys and Ben Shepherd on bass and featuring the mighty Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Strings and guest vocals by Nia Andrews!
Both Mark and Ben bring a lot to the musical table and have been formative to Myele as a musician. Growing up together in Wellington Ben departed New Zealand to study Jazz at the California Institute of Arts and from there has gone on to hold down bass duties for Lee Ritenour, Sonny Emery, David Archuleta & Ellis Hall. In Myele's own words He is quite simply a virtuoso.
Transplanted kiwi and now local maestro, Mark de Clive-Lowe (Church and Remix Live) has been a longtime hero turned collaborater of Myele's. A beast on the keys, Mark was pivotal in the Broken Beat and Nu Jazz movements and in addition to his own 13 albums, has contributed to over 250 other releases including the tracks 'Big Space' and 'Elvin's Brew' on Myele's album ONE.
Rounding out this mighty group, which has stemmed from the fortuitous meeting of Myele in New Zealand, is maestro Miguel Atwood-Ferguson the multi-instrumentalist, arranger, composer, music director, producer, and educator renowned for his many magnificent works, such as the exceptional 60 piece orchestra tribute to J Dilla 'Suite for Ma Dukes' to his arrangements, compositions and appearances with the who's who in music today from Flying Lotus, Seu Jorge, Hiatus Kaiyote, Leon Ware, Quadron, Jose James, Meshell, Mayer Hawthorne, Austin Peralta, Carlos Niño, Mia Doi Todd, Dwight Trible, Bilal, Common, Mulatu Astatke and so so many more.

Shed Construction And Woodworking Tips For Beginners
How To Build A Shed With The Right Woodworking Tools
Get Started Building Your First Shed - Woodworking Guide
Have you ever built a woodworking shed before? If this is the first time you create anything like that you will need some guidance through the procedure. It's not as easy as you might think to build a woodworking shed and it's of big importance that you plan your work before you do anything else.
The first thing to figure out is why you would like to have a woodworking shed in your garden. Would you like to have it since you need somewhere to place all your garden tools or would you like to put your golf equipment there? Do you plan to hide there to relax from time to time when you're tired and need some private time or would you like to let your puppies play there ?
There are many possible reasons why you would like to have a woodworking shed and no reason is better than the other one. They are all very understandable and as long as you plan your work before you do anything you will most likely become very happy with this new small building in your garden.
The second thing you need to figure out is where you would like to place the woodworking shed. Is there a perfect spot in the garden where it would be suitable to place it? There are some things you should remember when you're trying to decide where it should be placed. The first thing to keep in mind is that you need to build it in a place where it won't disturb your neighbours or some member of your family. That's really important to consider when you're planning the construction. Another thing to remember is that it should be placed where it's not hiding the garden from the sun.
The third thing to figure out is how big you would like your woodworking shed to be. This depends on what you would like to use it for. It needs to be big if you want plenty of puppies to play there but it doesn't have to be as big if you just want to put your golfing equipment there. It will be quite easy to figure this out when you know what purpose your new woodworking shed has.
Answer these questions, one at a time and when you've done that it's time to start designing your new woodworking shed. You will soon discover that it can be quite fun to plan and build something like this.

TUATARA BREWERY TOUR & TASTINGS REDUX
TUATARA BREWERY TOUR & TASTINGS REDUX.
Tuatara Brewery is one of those breweries which began as a backyard operation in the hills above Waikanae. It was founded by Carl Vasta, an engineer with the taste buds of a wine critic and with kiwi ingenuity. Carl is the living, breathing epitome of that noble philosophy. If he needed a shed or a bottler or a tank, he'd just go ahead and build one. Carl managed to brew a superb range of Ales, Porters and Pilsners under the name Tuatara.
The Tuatara brewing scheme is not difficult for the uninitiated to grasp. The brew is true to style, so wherever possible we go direct to the source and use the ingredients that have made that style famous.
Tuatara Brewery is one of the leading lights of New Zealand's world-beating craft beer scene and this is the perfect place to peek behind the curtain and find out where all those amazing Beers are made.
On the Tuatara Brewery Tour you'll see and do on a reconnaissance of the brand new secret headquarters in Paraparaumu, just North of Wellington's, Craft Beer Capital:
- The tour is led by either a production manager or master brewer.
- A comprehensive introduction to the brewing process.
- A close-up look at the raw ingredients
- On special days watch brews getting put together from grain to beer
- As well as a Complimentary selection of Tuatara brews with tasting tips from your all-knowing Zen beer master
It's a must for the beer fanatic or just the beer curious. The 45 minute experience includes the tour and four tastes, if you stay on you can also enjoy bite of awesome food and more Tuatara Beer afterwards, or take home Tuatara Beer for later enjoyment. Maximum of 20 people per tour, booking is essential. Tours are strictly R18.

Urban Ecological Restoration | PART 1 | Tauranga Public Lecture Series
PART 1 OF 2
Tauranga Public Lecture Series: Urban Ecological Restoration - The New Frontier?
In this lecture, Professor Bruce Clarkson considers whether towns and cities could be a solution to New Zealand’s biodiversity decline and will remind us just how precious our native plants and animals are, and how we all have a stake in protecting them.
For a long time in our urban centres, nature has been fighting a losing battle. Perhaps those living in residential areas had been comforted by the fact that the Department of Conservation and its predecessors have been doing their best to save our native birds from extinction on offshore islands, or more recently, mainland eco-sanctuaries. But, these endeavours on their own, are not enough to reverse the ongoing decline in native biodiversity.
Professor Bruce Clarkson is Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research at the University of Waikato. He is a restoration ecologist interested in habitat restoration to bring indigenous nature back into towns and cities. Prof Clarkson leads a Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment funded research programme: People, Cities and Nature: restoring indigenous nature in urban environments ( In 2016 he received the Royal Society of New Zealand Charles Fleming medal for environmental achievement for his efforts to advance and communicate understanding of native plant ecology and vegetation pattern and process, inform conservation efforts in terrestrial, freshwater and urban environments, and support effective on-the-ground restoration practice. He is a board member of the Australasian chapter of the International Society for Ecological Restoration, on the Governance Group for the Building Better Homes, Towns and Cities National Science Challenge, and is ambassador for the New Zealand's Biological Heritage National Science Challenge.
