Craigievar Castle (Scotland)
Tour of Craigievar Castle - 4/9/13
Music by Baltimore Consort (Anne Ground)
*Note - You can't film or take photographs inside Craigievar Castle.
Craigievar Castle is a pinkish harled castle six miles (10 km) south of Alford, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It was the seat of Clan Sempill and the Forbes family resided here for 350 years until 1963, when the property was given to the National Trust for Scotland. The setting is among scenic rolling foothills of the Grampian Mountains. The contrast of its massive lower storey structure to the finely sculpted multiple turrets, gargoyles and high corbelling work create a classic fairytale appearance.

Trip to Craigievar Castle in Scotland
One of the castles buried along the countryside. It's amazing with so few visitors that they can earn enough money to maintain the place.
Craigievar Castle
Craigievar Castle is the main destination in today’s ultra-short video. It’s ultra-short because filming is not allowed inside. But we also go to a supermarket inside a church, so stick around for that!
Off-the-Cuff Facebook! For all the same spontaneous off-the-cuffery! And then some.

STIRLING CASTLE: Travel in Scotland!
We took a bus ride from Edinburgh, Scotland to Stirling to explore Stirling's Castle for a day. The bus ride was only an hour long each way and cost a total of £8 for both of us round trip! It was cool seeing more of the beautiful U.K. landscape. We even passed those huge horse head sculptures! It went by too quickly to take any pictures though.
The castle had free tours every hour on the hour from 10 am to 3 pm. Our guide was incredibly friendly (like everyone here in Scotland) and knowledgeable. Since we're members of Historic Scotland our entry into the castle was free!
If you like this video please remember to give it a thumbs up so we continue making more like it, comment if you have any questions or want to tell us about your visit to Scotland, and Subscribe for more videos each week. (^_^)

8 Castles - Trip to Scotland
#TriptoScotland #FebProductions
Eccoci a Inverness.

COTHIEMUIR WOOD
ALFORD
ABEREENSHIRE
SCOTLAND
NEAR THE VILLAGE OF KEIG & CASTLE FORBES, IS COTHIEMUIR WOOD STONE CIRCLE. THIS IS ANOTHER MUST VISIT NEOLITHIC RING, IN THE GORDON DISTRICT OF NE SCOTLAND. OUR PREDECESSORS FROM AROUND 3000BC, ERECTED THE MOST IMPRESSIVE RECUMBENT SETTING, OF ALL THE GRAMPIAN CIRCLES.
A VISIT TO COTHIEMUIR WOOD WILL REWARD YOU WITH A BIG & BEAUTIFUL RECUMBENT STONE. THIS WAS A HUGE FEAT OF ENGINEERING BY OUR NEOLITHIC ANCESTORS. THE CIRCLE IS SURROUNDED BY TREES, MAKING LANDSCAPE OBSERVATIONS DIFFICULT. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RING YOU WILL SEE A CIST SLAB WHICH IS VERY UNUSUAL.
AT PRESENT EIGHT STONES REMAIN, FIVE STANDING & THE THREE STONE RECUMBENT SETTING. THIS ENCOMPASSES A 20M DIAMETER. THE SURVIVING STONES ARE IN THE SE TO N ARC. TWO STONES IN THE NW AREA ARE LEANING HEAVILY. IT IS THOUGHT AROUND THIRTEEN STONES WOULD HAVE ORIGINALLY COMPLETED THE SITE. THE CIRCLE ENCLOSES A WELL PRESERVED CAIRN.
THE SSW ORIENTATED RECUMBENT IS 20 TONS & MADE OF BASALT. THIS MEGALITH RESEMBLES A MALE PHALUS. IT IS 4.2M LONG X 1.25M HIGH. UNDERNEATH THE WEST END IS A SUPPORT STONE. ON THE OUTER SURFACE THERE IS NATURAL MARKINGS (KNOWN AS THE DEVILS HOOFMARKS) THERE IS ALSO POSSIBLE MAN MADE CUP MARKS ON THE OUTER FACE.
THE TWO FLANKERS ARE THE HIGHEST STONES. THEY REDUCE IN HEIGHT FROM THE SSW TOWARDS THE NNE. THEY ARE ROUGHLY THE SAME HEIGHT AT 2.7M. THE EAST FLANK SEEMS RECTANGULAR SHAPED AND MAY REPRESENT THE MALE. THE WEST FLANK IS MORE TRIANGULAR WHICH COULD BE SYMBOLIC OF THE FEMALE.
THE FIRST NOTE OF COTHIEMUIR WOOD WAS IN 1692 BY JAMES GARDEN. JOHN HOME MADE THE FIRST DESCRIPTION OF THE CIRCLE, ON AN ESTATE MAP OF CASTLE FORBES IN 1771. AN OLD TRACK SLICES THROUGH THE WEST SIDE OF THE RING.
DR RICHARD BRADLEY EXCAVATED COTHIEMUIR WOOD & PUBLISHED INFORMATION IN A BOOK CALLED ‘THE MOON AND THE BONFIRE’ “AN INVESTIGATION OF THREE STONE CIRCLES IN NORTH-EAST SCOTLAND”. THE OTHER TWO CIRCLES BEING AIKEY BRAE & TOMNAVERIE.
A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR ANCIENT ANCESTORS.
The Tale of Kitty Rankie - a story from Abergeldie Castle (filmed at Cragievar)
A wander round the grounds at Cragievar Castle reminded me of a haunting story from another north east castle - Abergeldie.
Abergeldie Castle might be recognisable to some as the castle which almost fell into the river Dee during the storms at the end of 2015. Thankfully it was saved by some swift rescue work .
But never mind that - in 1603, French Kate or Kittie Rankie was accused by her employer, the lady of Abergeldie, of drowning the unfaithful Laird at sea.
Some versions of the story have Kate refusing to work the magic requested of her by the lady but by coincidence a storm is raised an the husband dies anyway resulting in Kate being accused of witchcraft by the Lady.
Either way, the result is the same. Poor Kate was imprisoned in the cellars before being burned at the stake on the hill which overlooks the castle (Craig-na-Ban). Since then, Kate's ghost has been seen wandering the cellars and the clock tower where she is supposed to have worked her black magic!
Photographing Autumn Colours In The Scottish Countryside
Join me as I go back to Balmoral Estate to see if the images I visualised a few months ago can be captured. I also stop off at the Muir of Dinnet nature reserve and Craigievar Castle, allowing me to get experimental with my photography.
