The monster Category 3 storm is packing 120mph winds as it churns north along the state's west coast
At least five people are dead as Hurricane Irma batters Florida with devastating winds, heavy rain and catastrophic storm surges.

The monster Category 2 storm is packing 110mph winds as it churns north along the state's west coast, where it made a second landfall near Naples.

There are fears that the life-threatening storm surge could reach 15ft above ground, flooding entire communities.

More than a million buildings are without electricity as the storm uproots trees, downs power lines, snaps construction cranes in half and floods streets.

Thousands of people are hunkered down in shelters across Florida after seven million people were ordered to leave their homes in the largest evacuation in US history.

More than 3.3 million homes and businesses across the state lost power, and utility chiefs said it will take weeks to restore electricity to everyone.

While Irma raked Florida’s Gulf Coast, forecasters warned that the entire state was in danger because of the sheer size of the storm.

In one of the largest US evacuations, nearly seven million people in the south east were warned to seek shelter elsewhere, including 6.4 million in Florida alone.

About 30,000 people heeded orders to leave the Keys as the storm closed in, but an untold number refused, in part because, to many storm-hardened residents, staying behind in the face of danger is a point of pride.

Finding Good Crappie Fishing Spots

Jason made a point in the fall and winter to look for new crappie fishing spots with his electronics. He started in some productive arms of the lake and idled along break lines looking for brush piles with fish.

These creek channel edges are often where fishermen like to drop their brush piles. So Jason scanned with Lowrance HDS 3D Structure Scan for likely looking spots and brush piles until he found schools of crappie holding on them.

Once he saw a good school of fish on a brush pile, he stopped and fished it. He would cast a jig over the top, when they quit biting that, he would pitch to the piles from a closer distance, and finally he would get right on top of them and fish vertically on the pile.

He had one of the best fall/winter periods for crappie fishing in recent years by getting out and hunting for fish more with his electronics.

Everglades National Park is an American national park that protects the southern twenty percent of the original Everglades in Florida. The park is the largest tropical wilderness in the United States, and the largest wilderness of any kind east of the Mississippi River. An average of one million people visit the park each year. Everglades is the third-largest national park in the contiguous United States after Death Valley and Yellowstone. UNESCO declared the Everglades & Dry Tortugas Biosphere Reserve in 1976, and listed the park as a World Heritage Site in 1979, while the Ramsar Convention included the park on its list of Wetlands of International Importance in 1987. Everglades is one of only three locations in the world to appear on all three lists.Most national parks preserve unique geographic features; Everglades National Park was the first created to protect a fragile ecosystem. The Everglades are a network of wetlands and forests fed by a river flowing 0.25 miles (0.40 km) per day out of Lake Okeechobee, southwest into Florida Bay. The park is the most significant breeding ground for tropical wading birds in North America and contains the largest mangrove ecosystem in the Western Hemisphere. Thirty-six threatened or protected species inhabit the park, including the Florida panther, the American crocodile, and the West Indian manatee, along with 350 species of birds, 300 species of fresh and saltwater fish, 40 species of mammals, and 50 species of reptiles. The majority of South Florida's fresh water, which is stored in the Biscayne Aquifer, is recharged in the park.Humans have lived for thousands of years in or around the Everglades. Plans arose in 1882 to drain the wetlands and develop the land for agricultural and residential use. As the 20th century progressed, water flow from Lake Okeechobee was increasingly controlled and diverted to enable explosive growth of the South Florida metropolitan area.
