Van Morrison, special guest at Paul Jones’ Charity gig at Cranleigh Arts Centre on the 15th December 2014. The band behind them were the excellent Boom Band, comprising of Marcus Bonfanti, Paddy Milner, Mark Butcher (ex-captain of the England Cricket Team!), Matt Taylor, Jon Amor, Jonathan Noyce and Darrin Mooney. As Van said, “I only met the band today, but they are right on the money”. A very magical evening for the small audience in the village of Cranleigh, Surrey.

A great atmosphere and a very magical evening for the small audience in the village of Cranleigh, Surrey. Thanks to Paul Jones, and also to Tony Smith, promoter of Eclectic Live Music, who regularly puts on great music in Cranleigh.

Cranleigh Family Day
Over 600 guests, including families whose children will be the very first pupils of Cranleigh Abu Dhabi this September, gathered at Fanr Restaurant to celebrate the school's inaugural Family Day. Headmaster Brendan Law took to the podium to introduce himself, the staff and the school. Visitors were entertained by a five-piece musical ensemble from New York University Abu Dhabi, while children had a chance to meet and play together at the Kids' Activity Centre!
Social Cleansing in Cranleigh
McCarthy & Stone the 'caring' developers, are not listening to the Cranleigh community. They are not listening to our parish council and to our borough council who rejected their planning application to site a huge three storey block of flats in the middle of a rural community. The application was rejected on four strong planning grounds. They want to maximise profits for the benefit of directors and shareholders miles away, without a thought to the effect on the local community.
Currently the Victorian house is home to 21 low wage earners. It is Cranleigh's only proper affordable housing. The plan is to bulldoze this house and the one next door. Force the low wage earners out and put the same number of affluent downsizers in.
The low wage earners have nowhere to go in Cranleigh.
This cannot be allowed to happen. We are and need to be a community made up of different types of people - it's the only way any self-supporting community can work.
The planning application was rejected by Waverley Borough Council Planners on four clear planning principles - it didn't even go to committee as the failings were so clear.
1 The proposed rear projection of the building by reason of its height,
scale, bulk and massing, together with the urbanising features along
the front boundary of the site would be detrimental to the established character of the area, and therefore harmful to the amenities of the area.
2. The proposed development would result in an unacceptable loss of privacy to the neighbouring residential properties, 47 and 53 Horsham Road and 46 and 47 The Drive, as a result of direct overlooking from both first and second floor level windows serving habitable rooms of 12 separate apartments.
3. The development does not make adequate provision for affordable housing (within the meaning of the NPPF) in accordance with paragraph 50 of the NPPF and Policy H5 of the Waverley Borough Local Plan 2002.
4. The applicant has failed to enter into an appropriate legal agreement to secure contributions towards library infrastructure. The proposal therefore conflicts with Policies D13 and D14 of the Waverley Borough Local Plan 2002 and paragraphs 7 and 17 of the NPPF.

Rock Docteurs at the Arts Centre, Cranleigh - Doctor Doctor
A Birthday party at the Cranleigh Arts Centre
A Rock Docteurs cover of Doctor Doctor was a single released by the British hard rock band UFO. It was the band's first hit single in the UK. The song was written by Michael Schenker and Phil Mogg and is included in UFO's third album Phenomenon of 1974. It was released as a single in Europe, but not in the United Kingdom. The song eventually charted in 1979, when a live version taken from the live album Strangers in the Night was released as a single.
