The 500 year old Tree and the Inveraray Castle Woodlands In 1743 Archibald Campbell, the third Duke of Argyll started construction of the castle mansion and moved the town south to the present location. The site of the old town became the castle woodlands. In the 18th and 19th century visitors, including Queen Victoria, planted trees and shrubs. Some survive today. Head Gardener Jamie McCarthy gives Faith McArthur, President of the US MacArthur Society of Clan Arthur, a tour of the Woodlands. inveraray-castle.com clanarthur.com
