Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started traveling full-time January 10, 2016. While daily vlogging was not the original plan, we were having way too many cool experiences not to share every single day! Now travel vlogging is our full-time gig and we feel like we have the greatest job in the world! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
We’ve pulled inspiration from several of our favorite travel vloggers on YouTube, such as: +CaseyNeistat +FunForLouis +Jon Olsson +Mr Ben Brown , and any other talented travel vloggers that YouTube’s algorithm will hopefully connect us with ;)

Crashed DC-3 plane / Iceland

Iceland | DC-3 Plane Wreckage
The epic plane wreck on the black beach in South Iceland !
In 1973 a United States Navy DC plane ran out of fuel and crashed on the black beach at Sólheimasandur, in the South Coast of Iceland. Fortunately, everyone in that plane survived. Later it turned out that the pilot had simply switched over to the wrong fuel tank.

Sólheimasandur plane wreckage - DC-3 plane crash, Iceland
Park the car in the parking lot and walk to the DC-3 place crash site. There are markers along the way between the parking lot and the plane to guide you to the site. Walking back to the car is more difficult than walking to the plane.

Iceland: DC-3 Plane Crash Site
From Expertvagabond (
t’s one of Iceland’s most iconic & haunting photography locations. On Saturday Nov 24, 1973 a United States Navy Douglas Super DC-3 airplane was forced to land on Sólheimasandur’s black sand beach in the south of Iceland after experiencing some severe icing.
Luckily all crew members survived the crash, but the airplane’s fuselage was abandoned. Now it’s become a photography dream location.

DC Plane Wreck in Iceland
Find out more:
A wreck of a US DC3 Navy airplane is found on Iceland’s South Coast on the black sands of Sólheimasandur. Fortunately no-one was harmed during the crash of the plane, that happened on November 21st 1973 and was due to severe icing.
The wreck of the aircraft is located between Skógafoss waterfall and Reynisfjara black sand beach.
Reaching it requires either a private car, good physical health and a little research, or you can join a tour of the sights of Iceland’s South Coast. There is no sign indicating where the wreck is, only a small parking space next to the Ring Road, seemingly next to nothing in particular. The wreck is not visible from Iceland’s Ring Road, and reaching it requires around 45 minutes of walking, one way, on plain, black sands from the Ring Road.
The desolate landscape surrounding the plane wreck gives it a haunting, post-apocalyptic look and it’s a popular location for photographers. Since the crash, the wreck has endured Iceland’s tempestuous weather; rain, wind and ice, and has lost its wings and half of its tail. Seeing as it is not a natural attraction, people should not be concerned about others climbing the wreck, just make sure you take care when doing so.

HK URBEX: Iceland's DC-3 plane wreck
Filmed in May 2016.
When in Iceland, we felt obligated to visit this classic photography spot. The American DC-3 plane crashlanded in southern Iceland in 1973 due to apparent mechanical failure. All the pilots survived.
There was some controversy about this site last year: The landowners closed road access due to what they say as excessive vandalism by tourists and photographers alike. This 'professional' photographer is seen doing that idiotic steel wool trick inside:
Meanwhile, some amateur Hong Kong photographers were also accused of doing similar acts.
We do not condone nor encourage vandalism of any sort. The best urbexers get in and get out without ever leaving a trace.

There is a lot of misconception going around about how difficult this place is to find. We went so that you don't have to! Turns out, it isn't difficult at all, and just about anyone can find it. Check out the video for the full story of this wreck, how to get there, and what to expect.

Sólheimasandur, the abandoned DC plane
In 1973 a United States Navy DC plane ran out of fuel and crashed on the black beach at Sólheimasandur, in the South coast of Iceland. Fortunately, everyone in that plane survived.
To find the plane, pass the magnificent Skógafoss waterfall and drive a little further and after passing a river called Jökulsá you are almost there. There is no sign on the road to point out where to turn and the plane cannot be seen from the road.

???? DC-3 Crash Site (Iceland)
West of Vik on Sólheimasandur Beach is a lonely old DC-3 crash site. The black sand beach is huge and the DC-3 wreck hard to spot.
In 1973 a US Navy R4D (DC-3) ran low on fuel and made an emergency landing on Sólheimasandur beach. All on board survived the landing but it was deemed too expensive to salvage the entire plane so it was stripped of valuable parts and the carcass left on the beach to rot.
