Glenmuick Parish Church Ballater Scotland

Tour Scotland video of Glenmuick Parish Church on ancestry visit to Ballater, Aberdeenshire. A small church with a wooden spire was built in the square in the 1780s, but as the village grew in stature during Queen Victoria's frequent visits from Balmoral in the 1850s and after the railway arrived in Ballater in 1866, the church was deemed too small and plain. The replacement church shown in the video was built by Aberdeen architect J. Russell Mackenzie and opened in 1874.

Balmoral has been the Scottish home of the Royal Family since 1848 during the reign of Queen Victoria. Since then it has passed down successive generations to the present day Family. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Charles especially take a close interest in running and improving the Balmoral Estates.

Britain's Best Roads - The Cairnwell pass (Part 2)

Travelling south from Braemar Castle, the Cairnwell Pass (A93) is a winding two-lane road which passes the Cairnwell Munro and the Glenshee Ski Centre in Ballater, Aberdeenshire.
This is an uncut look at one of the roads we travelled down while on The Retro Lab's Scottish Adventure, which was a two thousand mile road trip around Scotland in which we continued our mission to find Britain's (and maybe even the world's) best driving roads, also visiting many castles and other points-of-interest along the way, but it didn't go quite how we had planned....

BALLATER FLOODS, MAROONED HOUSES, EXCLUSIVE FOOTAGE

BALLATER BUZZ NEWS CHANNEL has managed to obtain exclusive 'as it happens' footage of marooned houses situated at the east end of Pannanich Road, Ballater.

Filmed by apprehensive residents as the River Dee raged and began to take over large areas of the village during 'Storm Frank' 30/12/15.

One can only imagine what thoughts these residents were having during these frightening events. Best viewed in 'full screen' mode.

The Queen's residence in Scotland the fabulous Balmoral Castle on its last weekend open to the public in 2019 before the royal family took up residence. Always a busy place with people jumping for joy and lots of groups wandering around.

We have never been able to visit Balmoral before this year as isn't open to the public in September when we have stayed near Aberdeen so this June we had chance to go and really enjoyed the visit. Suitable for Children and Family viewing

The open plan living area, with its open fire, spacious kitchen with granite worktops, and slate flooring with underfloor heating, makes the perfect retreat on cooler evenings. There is also a lovely mezzanine level sitting area with gas fire, and four comfortable bedrooms. Set within the Cairngorms National Park, this Crathie cottage is ideally positioned for walking, mountain biking, climbing, canoeing, skiing and fishing. This easily accessible Crathie cottage is also close to many of Scotland's best castles including Balmoral, Braemar, Fraser, Crathes and Corgaff, and for whisky lovers, Royal Lochnagar Distillery is within walking distance. Local events include the traditional highland games in Braemar, Victoria Week in Ballater, and the Aboyne and Deeside festival. A superb Crathie cottage for a truly Scottish break.

Located in the Cairngorms National Park, Crathie is at the heart of Royal Deeside. Crathie is a favourite Scottish retreat of the Royal Family when they stay at Balmoral Castle less than a mile away, attending church services in the village when they are in residence. Queen Victoria's personal servant, John Brown, is buried in the graveyard in Crathie Church. From March to August of each year, Balmoral Castle and gardens are open to the public. The village of Crathie is one of the destinations on the Castle Trail, not only because of Balmoral but because of its close proximity to Abergeldie Castle. The Cairngorms National Park contains spectacular scenery, offering many opportunities for leisure activities and walks. The abundance of wildlife makes it a true paradise for naturalists and birdwatchers. Nearby Braemar Golf Club is the highest 18-hole course in Scotland, and is split in two by the River Clunie making it a sight to see even if you don't want to tee off. Also unmissable is a visit to the Royal Lochnagar Distillery on the southern bank of the Dee.

The location was wonderful. We loved the open fire with plentiful supply of logs. The house was very warm, thanks to underfloor heating. Great views from the huge window. Layout of house spacious and well designed modern extension blended with traditional original building. Good provision of hanging space and storage of boots in entrance hall.

A fantastic place to relax! The size, layout, aspect and top quality facilities in the cottage were superb for our large group. Wood burning fire in the lounge and plentiful supply of logs provided an additional wow factor - along with great comfort!
