A Full Plate: Creston Valley Song
We had many responses to our call for groups to join us for Canada 150 A Full Plate projects...bringing awareness to our local agriculture here in the Creston Valley through the arts.
The Therapeutic Activation Program for Seniors wrote and performed (seen in the video at the Creston Valley Farmers Market) with Vignettes of historical events and people and included one of their favourite songs: The Creston Valley Song with lyrics by former participant Frank Brummet to the tune of Red River Valley. thanks to Richard Reeves for putting this together, the photographers who submitted photos and our funders who are listed at the end of the video.
A Full Plate Video: Tarzwell Farm Creston BC
We were happy to spend time with Leanne and Tom Tarzwell for this A Full Plate video for our Canada 150 project, bringing awareness to local agriculture.
Tom and Leanne Tarzwell, who are setting a high bar for natural, local, and humane animal husbandry. They rely 100% on local customers and strive for 100% local inputs in order to help build a food system that will endure for generations. They run a red meat abattoir as well.
These are some of the comments from doing a Google Search for these Creston based farmers.
Sitting and talking at their place near Wyndell BC at their family home it became quite clear that like all farmers, that they do their best to mitigate the work load of this life and underlying it all is the love they have for their animals.
Thanks to Brenna Superior Jello for the interview and filming and Ilana Cameron and Richard Reeves for editing.

Creston Harvest Ale 2018
There's nothing that defines Creston Brewery better than our annual Harvest Ale. This year, we sought to capture what makes this beer so special: the world class ingredients that come directly from the land and water surrounding us in West Michigan.
This year, we have two single-hopped varieties of our 7% abv Harvest Ale 2018: Chinook and Copper. Chinook has an intense citrus aroma paired with a hop-derived sweetness that finishes more like grapefruit juice than beer. Copper takes its pungent tropical punch aroma to flavors of pineapple and mango, before finishing with a light creaminess.
Both are made from 100% locally sourced ingredients - Michigan-grown 2 row barley, white wheat, and oats malted by Emergent Malt of Zeeland, MI; wet hops grown and harvested by West Michigan Hopyards of Greenville, MI; and our wonderful water source, Lake Michigan, providing the soul of our beer.
2018 Harvest Ale - Chinook and Copper:
Hops harvested and brewed on August 27 and 28, 2018.
Video shot on location August 27 - September 20, 2018 - Grand Rapids, Greenville, Rockford, Zeeland, and Grand Haven, MI.

Nourish 2016 - Cosmetic, Soap and Body Products (Jan MacDonald, Jen Comer)
In order to legally sell soap, cosmetics, or body products in Canada, there are regulations that must be followed. These include Cosmetic Notification Forms, labeling requirements, and some licensing requirements. As more vendors are seeking to sell their products, it is imperative that both vendors and markets are aware of their responsibilities and liabilities in order to protect consumers from products that may be harmful if manufactured incorrectly. The Creston Valley Farmers' Market has made adherence to the above regulations a condition of participation in the market. The requirements for health supplements may also be presented in this workshop.

Practise Medicine in Rural British Columbia: Creston Valley and the Kootenays
Dr. Sue Hopkins and her family moved to the Creston Valley in British Columbia (BC), Canada from the United Kingdom (UK) in 2012. Like many physicians who relocate to BC, climate, community, and an active lifestyle were important considerations. It also fits the bill for a much better work/life balance for her as a busy general practitioner with ER responsibilities at the local hospital.
Riding into the town of Creston, BC
Its mid August of 2010 as we are approaching the town from the Creston flats in the northwest. After turning right and continuing south on Hwy 3, the ride proceeds along the main street, passing two major landmarks 'the grain elevators' and then a left turn through the town centre.
Soon after reaching the main shopping area, I turn into the Esso gas station on 16 Avenue and Highway 3 for some fuel.

Cranbrook Visit
In May of 2019, Patti and I visited our daughter Mandy and her partner Jeff at their home in Cranbrook, BC. This little video is a glimpse of the amazing time we had hanging out with them for a few days. Time spent hiking, having coffee on the patio in the morning, working in Mandy's garden, an amazing walk on the Bull River and burgers at the Bull River Inn, ice cream cones after an afternoon walk and just hanging out and talking. The song for the video is called Time, written by Dean Brody ©2016. The photos were taken by myself and Mandy.
