Metal Detecting in Australia - Creswick Forest
Creswick Woollen Mills - 70th Anniversary
Creswick Woollen Mills celebrates their 70 years anniversary by winning the RACV Victorian Tourism award for best Tourist Attraction. It is now the only remaining woollen coloured spinning mill of its type left in Australia.
Creswick Woollen Mills proudly designs in Australia a range of knitwear, accessories and homewares with a focus on natural fibres. Soft and luxurious to touch, natural fibres are unsurpassed in breathability. The purchase of a natural fibre product is a long-term investment in quality and comfort.
Conveniently located between Ballarat and Daylesford, the mill is the perfect destination for day-trippers, holiday makers and tour groups, both large and small. The newly opened café is a great place to relax with a cup of coffee and cake.
The Creswick Woollen Mills’ interactive exhibit “A VERY FINE YARN” showcases the journey of fibre; all the way from its source on the alpaca, through to the manufacturing process and how it ends up on the shop shelf. The exhibit gives a great insight into how luxurious fibres are processed.
The highlight of every visit includes getting up close and personal with the alpacas and their friends, which include cashmere goats and merino sheep.

Creswick Seminar 27/5/16 - Dr Michael Tausz
Sustainable crop production under increasing atmospheric CO2
Friday the 27th of May 2016
Dr Michael Tausz
The University of Melbourne
Atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) has just surpassed an average of 400 ppm (parts per million), and is predicted to rise above 550 ppm by 2050, up from about 280 ppm in pre-industrial times. As the main plant nutrient, CO2 can stimulate plant production (often referred to as the fertilisation effect), but also changes how plants use resources such as water and mineral nutrients, and decreases the nutritional value of food. To successfully adapt crop production practices and agro-ecosystem management in the face of increasing CO2, Free Air CO2 Enrichment (FACE) experiments enable the investigation of ecosystems under increased CO2 but otherwise unaltered conditions. This seminar will present recent highlights from the Australian Grains FACE (AGFACE) research program.
