River Crimple Harrogate 21 Jan 08 (3)
More water. This is the point where the river rose over the wall in June, and some of it ran down the road, across my garden, and back into the river again (partly via my house, though we did get slow water coming in).
Some locals have tried to prevent this happening again by piling up sandbags, but in the case of flood a higher wall would only raise the river level, causing FAST water to flood into my house and those houses next to me. You can't win with rivers by treating symptoms downstream of causes.
NB: On this day, the river only rose to two feet below flood level. But when it did rise two feet higher last June (2007), the rise was greater at this point. The river gains speed with increased depth, and as it turns this corner it rises higher where you see the sandbags. Last June it washed the sandbags off easily, and water was pushed a good foot above the wall as it slewed over into the road. I hope you're reading this, Environment Agency guys, as you need to correct problems upstream to prevent this happening again. The sandbags are silly.
Why Visit Harrogate?
If you are thinking of planning a UK break, why not consider the gorgeous spa town of Harrogate as a destination?
Take a look at this short video to give you a flavour of the town and glorious Yorkshire countryside which surrounds it.
We Love Harrogate
As a proud local business, Hunters Harrogate present #weloveharrogate, a collaborative video created alongside strong businesses in the town. The video showcases why Harrogate is a place for everyone and why working and living there is so enjoyable and rewarding. Stunning drone footage shows The Stray, Crimple Valley Viaduct, Valley Gardens and the town centre emphasising just how spectacular Harrogate and it’s surrounding area is.
We worked with some fantastic local businesses to produce the video. Harrogate Spring Water is one of the most recognised brands in Yorkshire dating back to the 16th Century. With locally sourced water, their product is popular nationally and globally; Managing Director James Cain discusses how Harrogate is a great place to manage their business but also bring up his family. This point is echoed by resident Natalie Murray-Hurst who although works out of the city in neighbouring Leeds, chose Harrogate to bring up her family due to its friendliness and happiness.
Harrogate is full of great bars like Major Tom’s Social and The Foundry Project and lovely coffee shops such as LMDC Espresso, catering to a wide range of people. There are sport and leisure opportunities available across the district, supported by North Yorkshire Sport; and the education on offer in Harrogate is one of the country’s best; Harrogate Tuition Centre is somewhere all children can top up on their skills and learning.
Harrogate is a beautiful town in the centre of North Yorkshire providing the perfect place to live for people of all ages and backgrounds. Known primarily as a tourist destination that brings in global visitors to the Great Yorkshire Show, RHS Harlow Carr gardens and Brimham Rocks, Harrogate has become a place people are proud to live and work in.
There are excellent transport links from the town to nearby cities York, Leeds and Bradford as well as 2 daily direct trains to London making it a convenient location for all. It has been consistently voted the “happiest place to live in Britain” and it’s easy to see why in this video.
#weloveharrogate shows why Harrogate is such a great place to consider moving to and we would encourage you to visit all these excellent businesses to explore the real Harrogate experience.
Exploring Harrogate Underground - Brunswick Tunnel
Short few clips I got from when Max and I went to Brunswick Tunnel, the idea was to walk right along to the end to get some shots of the air raid shelter. We started to get really muddy and creeped out...

Exploring Harrogate's Abandoned Woods With My Tiny Dog
This video is me and my dog having a wander and exploring the Ripley cycle path area in Harrogate (Hairy Mountains/Nidd Gorge), in Yorkshire, England. We find a lovely spot in the middle of the woods and find a shortcut to Claro Road I never knew existed but is really handy if you're on foot or bike,
I also talk some shit and Titch snuffles about in the woods.
Thanks for watching, I normally do mental health awareness videos, here's the link to my playlist if you're interested. I thank you sincerely if you click it and feel free to say hi in the comments.
Cheers again, stay cool and stay safe.
