CORNWALL DAYTRIPS: St Austell Bay Beaches [Part 1/2]
The next video in my Cornwall Daytrips series is part 1 of a quick tour of my local beaches. These are the first 4 beaches accessible within St Austell Bay: Porthpean, Duporth, Charlestown & Carlyon Bay (Crinnis). Part 2 will be along in the next couple of weeks so don't forget to subscribe to see it!
Invasion around St Austell Bay Part Two
The summer of 1940 saw Britain facing invasion and thanks to Hitler's Directive No 16 Cornwall was in the forefront of the Nazi invasion plans. This video book looks at the defences that were prepared around St Austell Bay on the south Cornish coast and sees what remains of them today.
For ease of viewing the video has been uploaded in three parts:
Part One deals with the coast from Dodman Point to Black Head covering Hemmick Beach, Gorran Haven, and Mevagissey;
Part Two travels from Porthpean to Carlyon Bay taking in Charlestown, Crinnis Beach, Shorthorn Beach and Fishing Point;
Part Three commences at Spit and looks at Par Docks, Par Beach, Polkerris, Polridmouth and the Gribben Head.
If you have any more information or wartime photographs on the defences mentioned in this video please leave a comment. If you had relatives who built or served in the defences please leave a comment.
This video has been made to honour the memory of all those who served in World War Two to preserve our freedom. With gratitude we will remember them.
The music featured in part two includes Canon by Pachelbel, Do I worry by The Inkspots, Could you please oblige us with a bren gun by Noel Coward, Nimrod by Elgar, Get in your shelter by Arthur Askey, Sing as we go by Gracie Fields, I'll be seeing you by Anne Shelton, My prayer by The Inkspots and When this lousy war is over - a parody sung by wartime troops.

Velotive 2015 Sea Swimming Series | Carlyon Bay | Event Overview
This is the second event in the Velotive sea swimming series and the bay is normally very calm but it can get a little choppy once in a while. Like Porthpean we swim here all the time and it is a brilliant place to swim.

Cornwall Coast to Coast Cycle Trail
I had my first run at the coast to coast multi use trail on 01/02/13. I really enjoyed the ride.
A few tips if you're using this as a guide.
Be prepared to get wet and muddy! It's fun once you accept it.
There is a fork in the path just before the road near Scorrier. At about 3:21 on the vid. Don't make my mistake. Go right at that fork and you will stay on the trail and not loose it like I did.
There is a car park at Devron just of the Falmouth to Truro road as shown, or the one at Portreath.
I went there and back again. The last quarter of the ride was the best bit for me. Scorrier is pretty much the highest point of the trail, so I had great fun bombing down the trail all the way back to Devron. Fortunately due to poor weather it was quite quiet so safe to get some speed up. If you're having a go in high season I suspect you will need to tame things down a bit.
I'm just getting back into cycling so no hot shot and of modest fitness. No big climbs, but a lot of gentle steady uphill. You'll find segments on Strava if you want more of an idea of gradient etc. I think there is one from Portreath to Devorn if that helps you find it.
I hope this helps.
Enjoy the trail.
Be respectful and courteous to other users and bit your tongue when others aren't so polite.
Have fun.
