ADDO ELEPHANT NATIONAL PARK AND RIVER SAFARI || TRAVEL SOUTH AFRICA
24/11/18 - Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa
We headed out with Crisscross Adventures to our river safari in the morning… only to find out it was in canoes! After making our way to the river we paddled down and were lucky enough to see some fantastic birds, including an eagle. From here we went back to Crisscross HQ and had a lovely lunch before going in a custom vehicle to see a tremendous amount of elephants, tortoises, endangered dung beetles, jackals and much more at Addo Elephant National Park.

Addo Elephant National Park divert elephants from water holes
Limited water resources and over grazing has led SANPARK's in the Addo Elephant National Park outside Port Elizabeth, to start experimenting with a method to divert elephants from water holes. An apparatus has been installed at two Addo waterholes to allow other animals better access and protect the integrity of the surrounding veld. The measure is part of the park's strategy to manage limited water resources, vegetation diversity and an increasing elephant population.

Addo Elephant National Park in EC is one of the best in the world
South Africa has some of the best wildlife viewing experiences in the world, such as the Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape.
These attractions also create tourism related spin-offs and vital economic boosts for the towns near these parks. A wildlife experience centre near the impoverished town of Addo is set to add to the tourism jewels of the region, but also bring much needed jobs. Janine Lee reports.

Camping at Addo Elephant National Park Main Rest Camp // South Africa Safari Day 12 of 25.
We leave the misty mountains of #Hogsback on a 3 hour drive to Addo Elephant National Park.
#Addo was established in 1931 to protect the last 11 remaining elephants. Over 600 hundred #elephants now call the Park, home. Addo is now the third largest of the South African National Parks (SANParks).
After setting up camp we hit the pool, and are humbled by the large herds of elephants. I’m jealous of people living in Port Elizabeth, only 70km from addo!
There’s a lot of other wildlife and birdlife apart from the elephants, but I was so busy taking photos of the wildlife I forgot to video much. And small wildlife like the flightless dungbeetles and a big #shongololo . One night is way too short to fully appreciate the park – we’ll be back.

Nyathi Getaway and other Adventures in Addo
I visited Nyathi Camp, Addo Elephant National Park's newest accommodation addition to the Eastern Cape family. At Nyathi there are 11 units and each unit comes with its own private pool, kitchen, braai area and a bathroom with the most incredible view.
Besides the views and wildlife at Nyathi, the getaway was also filled with other adventures in and around Addo such as a sandboarding adventure with Sundays River Adventures, a visit to Addo Adrenalin and a stop at Woody Cape which also forms part of Addo Elephant National Park.
Special thanks to SANparks for the invite to experience Nyathi Camp.
