A day trip in East Gippsland Australia
Please watch: Chiang Mai Bus Station tour
--~--
We made a day trip in East Gippsland Australia. We visited the isolated communities of Orbost, Cape Conron and Marlo. These destinations lie close to 400 kilometres east of Melbourne and 600 kilometres south of Sydney.
Small towns and coastal communities. Orbost is the largest town with a population of 2700 people. The nearest town with over 10,000 people is over 200 kilometres away.
A great region to visit. Tunin and find out about one of Australia's least populated area's.
Here are some links below for you to explore
Accommodation in Orbost can be found here

Seashore Life of East Gippsland - nature of Croajingolong
This slideshow highlights of some of the amazing seashore creatures found in Croajingolong National Park. They were encountered along the far east coast of Victoria on an ecotour with Gippsland High Country Tours. Images were kindly provided by P & T Bridle and include a few land-based creatures as well! Under the guidance of Alan Monger from the Marine Research Group we investigated the rocky shoreline and paddled in rock pools at Point Hicks and at Bastion Point, Mallacoota. All data collected adds to knowledge of species distribution. The creatures we discovered during our survey were incredibly varied and beautiful, especially for cooler southern waters. Sadly work has now commenced at Bastion Point on a controversial ocean access ramp, that once completed will see the loss of some of the rocky reef and rock-pools at this site forever. See our website for a great range of nature tours and experiences like this one:

Swamp Wallaby - Croajingolong Journey, East Gippsland Australia
7 July 2011 at 14.18pm on a cold but sunny day. This big male wallaby was happily grazing beside the Wangarabell Rd in the sunlight. He stayed looking at us for some minutes, and only hopped off when we moved.

Croajingolong NP I Victoria

Croajingolong Bush Blitz - all creatures great and small
More than 45 participants focused their efforts across land and sea within Croajingolong National Park near Mallacoota and across its coastal fringes to areas including Gabo Island.................
The Bush Blitz recordings included more than 130 tiny crustacean species, some of which Museum Victoria believes will be entirely new to science.
Also recorded, were more than 60 species of fish, 23 reptile and frog species including the rarely seen Spadefoot (a legless lizard that looks like a snake) and more than 300 moth species. There were also almost 300 marine algae samples collected.
Researchers also gained stunning and rare close-up underwater video and photographs of a humpback whale and her calf.
Teams from Museum Victoria, Parks Victoria, Royal Botanic Gardens, University of Melbourne, University of New South Wales and the Entomological Society of Victoria were joined by BHP Billiton employees working as field assistants.
This video includes footage from Museum Victoria and Parks Victoria and is edited by Museum Victoria and Bush Blitz.
