Amazing day in Zagreb | Croatia
I was not expecting to have such a beautiful day in Zagreb, Croatia. I ended up in the Museum of Broken Relationships.
Croatia is a beautiful country and today I was visiting Zagreb. I have heard many good things about Zagreb so I was curious to see what this city had to offer in one day.
I walked around the city of Zagreb for a couple of hours as I found out that the city of Zagreb is indeed beautiful as everybody told me. I went to the Dolac Market where I could find people getting their groceries done.
We also used the Funicular to go up in the city, the Funicular is a very very old way of transportation in Zagreb city centre. If you have a chance to use it, go for it, and when you get up there don't forget to look back because the view is amazing!
Then I went to the Cathedral of Zagreb and near the Anamorphosis by Etian, and in the end of the day I went to a museum that I was very curious to see which was the Museum of Broken Relationships, yes, you read it well, broken relationships.
In the end I really spent an amazing day in Zagreb, Croatia.

What loved about this place was first and foremost the location as we were right in the heart of the old town and secondly the courtyard with a friendly cat. Other pluses include a spacious livingroom, kitchen and bedroom but on the downside the apartment didn't have a washing machine which kind of sucked. Overall though for the price you pay we think this is a great value place to stay.

Zagreb Apartment Tour in Croatia Video Transcript:
Alright guys it is time for our Zagreb apartment tour. We have just come back from our last day of sightseeing. We are leaving tomorrow. This right here is our building.
Also I would like to mention there is a cat that lives in this courtyard. And this is what the apartment looks like from the outside. Okay. Let's go check it out. Going upstairs.
Turn on the light. And we are on the second floor right? First floor. Because the ground doesn't count. Ah, it is so nice we didn't have to carry our luggage all the way up. Like we have in the past.
Come on in. So here we are. Inside the apartment. Nice and cozy. This is the part where I admit we've been here a week and the place is an absolute mess.
And we are now ready for the apartment tour to commence.
So if you follow me this is our living area which is pretty spacious. I really enjoyed it. So we had a massive couch which was so nice for like lounging and watching a little bit of Netflix.
We had a TV that we didn't really use. And then our window looks out into the courtyard.
And then we had a little work desk that I did use but now it is just like storing our electronics. So yeah, that is kind of like the living area. Then if you follow me this way into the bedroom.
Nice big bed and we had a gazillion blankets in the closet. Oh yeah. Which was nice. Yeah, we've been actually using them. It has been getting chilly at night.
Okay moving on. The bathroom. Oh and in case we didn't let you guys know we have really high ceilings.
So it is a pretty good size bathroom I would say. So I'll just quickly show you guys the shower. That was the one thing the only liability of this place is it doesn't have a washing machine.
Sink and toilet. That is the bathroom for ya.
And the heating system in this apartment just so I can show you here. A radiator. This is actually how you turn it on. That is how you turn on both the hot water and the heating the central heating for the house.
Into the kitchen. Sam's office. This is where he hung out. Computer desk. We made tea here.
Um, yeah that is the kitchen really. There is microwave we didn't use. I did use the stove. I was making lots of pasta and polenta. Yep. Yeah, we ended up cooking here more than most other places. We made tonnes of pasta, salads.
And now let's talk about the price.
How much did this place cost? Money time. So this place cost 33 US dollars a night. Obviously if you stay for a week like us then you get a discount as well. And this place had a phenomenal location. Right in the heart of the Old Town. We were nearby several different grocery stores. We had great restaurant options. Both like kind of for fancy dining but also lots of bakeries. And we had a beautiful park just down the street. Yeah, I went jogging. I just felt right at home here. And you had a cat. A cat in the courtyard. It is like this place couldn't have been better. I'm going to miss the cat. I'm still going to try to arrange some tuna. A can of tuna for it. At night but um yeah that is getting a little off topic but anyways so yeah that is it for our time here in Zagreb, Croatia. Next up is Zadar. We are going to be heading back to the coast and then basically following the rest of our time in the Balkans. It is going to be along the coast so yeah. Alright, tata

Our travels in Croatia brought us to Zagreb known for its lively street markets, vast green spaces, and varied architecture that spans numerous movements, we reached the capital and hit the ground running. In this video we’re going to show you some fun things to do in Zagreb, as well as share our favourite place for sampling the most delicious truffle dishes:
From the main square you have the Flower Market, and if you head up the steps, that leads to Zagreb’s Central Market.
Zagreb Cathedral is one the city’s main landmarks. This is the largest sacral building in the Gothic style southeast of the Alps, and it’s pretty easy to spot the spires wherever you are in the city.
Our walk through the Upper Town eventually lead us to Tkalčićeva. These days you’ll find a lively street lined with restaurants, cafes and bars.
We reached what may be the most memorable museum in the whole world: The Museum of Broken Relationships. The museum is a global crowd-sourced project that deals with heartbreak. Inside you’ll find curious objects with a corresponding story.
St. Mark’s Church bears the medieval coat of arms of Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia on the left-hand side, and the emblem of Zagreb on the right.
To enjoy city views of the Lower Town there are some great vantage points along the promenade.
On our way down from the Upper Town, we walked through Zagreb’s famed Stone Gate. Once the eastern gate into the medieval settlement now houses a small chapel.
Let’s take a break from all the sightseeing to introduce you to one of our favourite restaurants in Zagreb when it comes to truffle dishes
And craving more views of the city, we then went up Zagreb 360.
Known as the Green Horseshoe, this park was named after Milan Lenuci who came up with the idea of creating connected green spaces right in the downtown. The horseshoe is home to several museums, galleries and archives.
If you’re into hockey and you visit Zagreb during the season, you can catch a game in the city. We watched Medveščak Zagreb play.

City Walks visits Zagreb, Croatia. Our first trip to Zagreb was for Advent Market but we didn't film a walk then. Returning in the summer reminded me how much I like this City. On this walk we start at the cathedral and make our way over to Gradec, down to Trg Ban Jelicic, along the parks to the train station. Zagreb is a beautiful, vibrant, artistic city with a wonderful cafe culture and many great sights. It's one of the places I would like to return to for an extended visit.

OUR APARTMENT TOUR IN ZAGREB, CROATIA | ✈️ Flying Tampa to Zagreb on Lufthansa
After a year of no flights, we were excited to break out our passports and fly across the pond to Europe for a few months. We flew Tampa to Zagreb on Lufthansa, which included a nonstop to Frankfurt with a short layover there before a short hop over to Zagreb. The flight itself was pretty painless and smooth, but the jet lag hit hard (it must be getting worse with age!).
We were supposed to be picking up a VW Bus for a camper van trip, but our plans changed after arriving in Zagreb. We give you a tour of TWO different apartments we rented, the first one for around $30/night and the second one at $45/night. Both apartments were rented on Airbnb. Zagreb (Croatia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Zagreb is the political and cultural heart of Croatia, an amiable capital city located at the intersection of Central, Eastern and Southern Europe and a city that holds many memories of the Danube Monarchy. Zagreb originated in the Middle Ages from two rival settlements on neighbouring hills, the bishop's seat of Kaptol which is dominated by its cathedral and the free city of Gradec which was its political centre. They both formed the city’s Upper Town. The cathedral dominates the Kaptol district, its two steeples towering above the old city. The city’s marvellous Botanical Garden contains an array of wonderful natural sights. It boasts ten thousand tree and plant varieties including alpine, Mediterranean, and the exotic. Small ponds with water plants are also included in the four point seven hectare gardens. An imposing arcaded facade forms the entrance to the Mirogoj Cemetery which is laid out as a park and is an artistic masterpiece. Here, leading sculptors built tombs for the country’s most famous personalities from the arts, culture and politics, including the grave of Franjo Tudjman. A narrow mountain road leads up to the Medvednica Nature Park, outside the city gates. The mediaeval Medvedgrad Fortress is a most striking and interesting attraction located in twenty three thousand hectares of natural landscape. Zagreb is a special city, unique, with a never-ending story, a city that has witnessed a thousand years and, due to its historic values, has become a European Capital Of Culture.

Zagreb is a city and a county, capital of Croatia. According to the 2011 census, the city had 688,163 inhabitants, the county 790,017 inhabitants, 93.14% of whom were Croats5 and the Zagreb region (Zagreb County plus Zagreb county) had 1,107,623 inhabitants.
Zagreb is located in the north of the country on the flanks of the Medvednica near the Sava at an altitude of about 122 m above sea level. Plitvice National Park and Zagreb, Croatia
Travel video blog about Plitvice National Park and Zagreb in Croatia.
We departed Zadar at lunch time and headed to Croatia’s most famous National park: Plitvice. We had booked a hotel in the area to stay for the night because we had planned to visit the park that afternoon, and then again on the following morning. Everyone says that to make the most of your time in Plitvice you should wake up early in the morning to avoid the crowds in the park, but I am not really a morning person, so I decided to split my visit into two days. We reached Plitvice around 3 pm on that day, and immediately upon arrival we headed to the park to explore the lower lakes.
Plitvice National Park is one of the oldest national parks in Croatia and undoubtedly the most popular park for travelers. The park is protected by UNESCO and it contains a series of beautiful lakes, caves and waterfalls formed by processes typical of karst. The national Park is truly beautiful, the lakes have crystal clear waters and there are many amazing landscapes, however, it’s a little hard to take photographs without anyone in it given that the walkaways are usually packed with hundreds of other tourists. Still, it’s totally worth the effect of going there. If you prefer to avoid the crowds then my suggestion is to avoid going between 10 am to 3 pm, which is when the tour buses are there. Shoulder seasons are also preferred, spring, autumn and end of summer are your best bet, or even winter if you like cold.
After exploring the lower lakes that afternoon, we went back to our hotel and stayed for the night. On the next morning, we woke up early to explore the upper Lakes. We left our hotel at about 8:00 am to take the first boat towards the trail of the upper lakes and spent about 4 hours exploring the remaining of the park. Both the lower trail and the upper trail are very beautiful. If you wish to explore both, you will most likely need one full day or two half days like we did.
After lunch we left the park and headed to Croatia’s lovely capital City: Zagreb. I was not expecting much of Zagreb so I had planned to stay there for one night only, but I have to admit that I was pleasant surprised of how much I liked it. Zagreb is probably the most underrated city in Croatia, if not, in the whole Europe. The city boasts a charming medieval architecture with colorful buildings, it also has a good tram network and many options of places to enjoy great food. Zagreb’s nightlife is also vibrant, with many bars and nightclubs to choose from. It’s was definitely worth to spend the day there and I wish we had stayed longer.
Some of the places we visited in Zagreb were: St Marks’ church, Cathedral of the Assumption, the lower and the upper town, The King Tomislav Square, Zabreb’s farmer market and Gradec Plateau (where you can see the street art in the video). Zagreb is sometimes overlooked as a travel destination for some travelers, but if you have the chance, you should definitely visit it for a day or two (maybe three?) as the city has plenty to offer.
We slept in Zagreb on that night and then on the following morning, we departed early in the morning for Budapest, in Hungary. See the link for the video at the bottom of the page.

ABOUT US
Hi, we’re Chris and Mandy, travel bloggers and creators from Australia. Since December 2015, we have been travelling and exploring the world full-time. We usually spend 1-2 months in each place we travel to and love really getting to know a place. One of our favourite ways to get to know a destination is through food, and we share all of our food guides here on Youtube and on our travel blogs. We love to pack light, travelling the past 3 years with carry-on only. On AlmostLanding.com, we share in-depth guides to help you plan the best trip, we often have free printable guides you can download or print out, we’ve created our own travel maps pinpointing our favourite picks for different places so you can easily find everything and make travel planning easy. We have another travel blog all on Bali, AlmostLanding-Bali.com, we’ve spent so much time in Bali and share everything we know and love about this beautiful island.
