Japan southernmost group of islands, Okinawa, has many sights of interests for its visitors. Iriomote Island(西表島) is Okinawa’s second largest island. Being undeveloped, natural lovers will be happy to learn 90% of the island is a jungle with its own mangrove forest.
The best way to explore the island is by its rivers. The two longest rivers of the island are the Urachigawa (Uchigawa River) and the Nakamagawa (Nakama River). Boat cruises are available among these two rivers. Other options include a guided Kayak tours along these two rivers as well as some of the smaller rivers.
Nakama River Cruise departs from Ohara, located in the southern part of the island. The boat will travel inland to a large mangrove tree. Here, the tour members have the option to disembark from the boat to walk around the island for a few minutes before the journey back. The cruise will take about 1 hour with a Japanese speaking guide providing Japanese explanations about the river and the mangrove trees.

Yubu is a tiny tropical paradise off the coast of Iriomote Island. Part of the Yaeyama Islands in Okinawa Prefecture, Yubu is almost completely covered by a subtropical botanical garden.
All transportation to Yubu is via neighbouring Iriomote. The most common means of access is via a cart pulled by a water buffalo.
The gap between Yubu and Iriomote is less than 500 meters, taking around 10 minutes to cross by water buffalo cart.
In this video, the crossing is shot in real-time, without any edits or music, so it is just like you are there.
Just walk up, sit down and relax as the water buffalo carries you over to Japan's smallest paradise island - Yubu.

나를 태운 배가 30분쯤 달렸을까. 코발트빛 수면으로 돌고래 떼가 나타났다. 사람들의 박수소리에 힘을 얻었는지 그 중 몇 마리가 달리는 배와 경주를 시작한다. 바다 한가운데서 각본에 없던 돌고래 쇼를 감상하는 사이 배는 어느덧 빠빌라깐 섬에 도착했다. 빠빌라깐 섬은 아름다운 해변과 산호들을 감상할 수 있는 다이빙 포인트를 갖고 있어 필리핀 현지인들이 조용한 휴가를 즐기는 숨겨진 여행지다. 수정처럼 투명한 해변에서 물놀이하는 아이들을 보는 것만으로도 내 마음속까지 시원해진다. 빠빌라깐 섬에는 몇 몇 가구가 살고 있긴 하지만, 전기나 수도가 들어오지 않는 곳이다. 그래서 여행객들은 오히려 한적한 휴가를 보내기 위해 이곳을 택한다. 마을 한쪽엔 무슨 일이 있는지 사람들이 모여 있었다. 싸봉이라고 하는 필리핀의 닭싸움이었는데, 싸움닭만을 키우는 농장이 따로 있을 정도로 필리핀에는 닭싸움이 상당히 대중화 돼 있다고 한다. 세상에서 제일 재미난 게 싸움구경 이라지만 푸른 바다의 유혹보다 강렬하지는 않다. 숨대롱을 물고 들어가 바닷속을 떠다니면서 나는 내가 그 별천지의 주인이 된 착각에 빠졌다. 보홀 섬에는 여행객들을 위한 다양한 리조트들이 마련돼 있다. 바다를 바라다보며 수영을 즐길 수 있는 풀빌라와 가족끼리, 연인끼리 오붓한 시간을 갖기에 제격인 별장식 리조트는 종종걸음으로 살다온 여행객들에게 진짜 휴식이란 무엇인지를 말없이 보여준다.
