Croswell's Swinging Bridge - A More Realistic View
Earlier today, several friends of mine shared a video (linked below) from an article (also below) on the (in?)famous pedestrian swinging bridge in Croswell, Michigan over the Black River. My sister and I, after viewing the documentary, felt that the true nature of a bridge crossing attempt was not properly conveyed in this production.
This video response / edit / mashup is our attempt to correct this misinterpretation of a bridge crossing. As Michele will tell you, we were there. We saw. We hope this clears things up for those who have not yet visited Croswell and experienced the horrific nature of The Bridge, and will deter others from possibly losing their souls and selves in future attempts.
Thanks to and Melissa Treat at for some inspiration and encouragement to reveal the true threat of this public safety menace!

Originally built to provide access to River Bend park in 1905, the Croswell Swinging Bridge has remained the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Michigan.
Let's Visit Croswell, MI
Located north of Port Huron, MI just a few miles away from Lake Huron, Croswell is a very nice small city with a few stores and restaurants. The city is also home to a swinging bridge (or the Be-Good-To-Your-Mother-In-Law Bridge) which runs across the Black River.

Croswell 2: Return to Normal - REAL USA Ep. 73
In Episode 61 we visited the town I grew up in, Croswell, Michigan. Unfortunately at the time we were there shooting, the main street (Howard Street) through the center of town was torn up for reconstruction and we weren't able to video the downtown area. So now that the work is completed, and after many requests from the loyal fans from Croswell, we finally had the opportunity to revisit my hometown and now we can share with you the heart of Croswell!
Croswell, Michigan is a small rural, agrarian town in east central Michigan, and fairly exemplary of what small town Americana is REALLY like. It's also where I grew up, graduated high school, and got married the first time. Much of my family still lives there. The economy of the town is powered largely by commerce and agriculture, with sugar production today being the largest commodity manufactured there. It hasn't changed a great deal in the decades since I went to school there, and the population of 2,441 is nearly the same as it was when I left. It isn't fancy, it isn't special, but it is a very typical example of what REAL life is like in the United States.

Yale, Michigan - Bev's Home Town - REAL US Ep. 182
Each small town in America has its own unique character. Yale is a town of roughly 2,000 people that once a year grows to about 20,000 people during the Bologna Festival, but the rest of the year it is typical of normal life in small town America.

You can learn a lot from crossing a swinging bridge on a bike. This is the lesson that Nick and Matt learned on the way to Santa Familia, Belize.
