ANZAC Day at Gallipoli in 2015
This 720p hi-def video shows highlights of a Crowded House 3-day bus tour I did with Peter from Istanbul to Gallipoli, to attend the centenary commemorative services on 25 April 2015. At dusk on the 24th of April we arrived at the commemorative site on the Gallipoli Peninsula, to be there in time for the ANZAC Day dawn service and the 11am Australian service at Lone Pine. On the 26th of April the tour returned to the commemorative site near ANZAC Cove, and from there we visited many battle sites and trenches, plus other cemeteries including the main Turkish cemetery and a New Zealand cemetery at Chunuk Bair. During my world tour, the ninth country I visited was Turkey. I was surprised by the outstanding hospitality of the Turks and ease of travel across this vast country. Distances are very considerable if you want to see it and since I only had two and a half weeks provided for visiting this beautiful country I have only visited the Mediterranean coast. I will definitely be back to visit Cappadocia and the Black Sea to the north. Regarding the hostels I've stayed in, they were always very nice and well located. Here is a summary of each one.
The hostel Chambers of the Boheme is located in the heart of Taksim, the most popular area of Istanbul. Around there, you will find many restaurants and pubs, a multipurpose cultural center and an opera, Chambers of the Boheme puts the best of the unique nightlife of Istanbul at hand.
Whether you want an evening with hookah and Turkish delights, a cruise on the beautiful Bosphorus, live music and dancing until the end of the night, or visiting the historic sites of Istanbul, it is easily accessible from the inn.
The inn is a beautiful restored 19th century building, where resided the greatest writers in Turkey. Chambers of the Boheme has all the glamor, decadence and beauty of the lifestyle of a bohemian inn, without compromising on comfort. Private rooms, semi-private rooms are available.
Crowded House is a family owned inn, located in Eceabat, the town closest to the battlefields of Gallipoli and the ANZAC cave. With 24 double rooms, all with bathroom and shower, three bedrooms with 6 beds and air conditioning, Crowded House meets the needs of all travelers.
Due to its central location, you can admire the Dardanelles and swim on white sandy beaches and enjoy the true Turkish hospitality. Breakfast buffet is free to all customers.
Atilla's Getaway is an inn nestled in the mountains of Ephesus (the second largest ancient city in the world) and just down from the mountain of the house of the Virgin Mary. Equipped with a swimming pool with spring water Atilla's Getaway is the ideal place for glorious rest. This hostel is managed by an Australian-Turkish family and is very relaxed. Good vibes, good food and great hospitality. A place to relax and if you want to move, there is also volleyball, billiards, ping-pong, backgammon and other games, all for free. Every evening there is a communal meal offered at great prices in addition to traditional Turkish dishes, homemade and 100% organic.
Just 2 km from Selçuk, 1 km from Ephesus and 7 km from the Aegean Sea and the largest water park in Europe, Atilla's Getaway. You can easily make day trips to Pamukkale, the Greek island Samos and other ancient sites such as Priene, Miletus and Didyma. A free shuttle starting from Selçuk with departures throughout the day is available.
Paradise for backpackers!
