SHEFFIELD WALK | Barkers Pool to The Crucible Theatre and Tudor Square in Sheffield CIty Centre
A short walk through Sheffield City Centre starting at Barkers Pool

A Walk through Sheffield City Centre from Barkers Pool to The Crucible Theatre and Tudor Square, with a full walk around The Crucible including the Stage Door.
We begin this walk through Sheffield City Centre in Barkers Pool (our previous video was a walk around Sheffield City Hall - check it out!)
As we cross over Pinstone Street next to Sheffield Town Hall we head down towards the Winter Gardens, Central Library and Tudor Square.
As we get to The Crucible Theatre I was going to stop there but then though why not have a wander all the way around the theatre and show it from every side?
So we head down to Arundel Gate, past the new transport interchange across the road from Sheffield O2 Academy and round to the back part of The Crucible Theatre.
This is the side of the theatre in Sheffield City Centre seen most from passing buses and transport and a bit bland to be honest but hey never mind.
We come around The Crucible, up between The Crucible and Lyceum Theatres and back into Tudor Square as the World Snooker Championship is being prepared for.

Places to see in ( Yorkshire - UK ) Crucible Theatre
Places to see in ( Yorkshire - UK ) Crucible Theatre
The Crucible Theatre is a theatre built in 1971 in the city centre of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. As well as theatrical performances, it hosts the most prestigious event in professional snooker, the World Championship.
The Crucible Theatre was built by M J Gleeson and opened in 1971, replacing the Playhouse Repertory theatre in Townhead Street. In 1967 Colin George, the founding Artistic Director of the Crucible, recommended a thrust stage for Sheffield, inspired by theatres created by Sir Tyrone Guthrie. Tanya Moiseiwitsch, who had been involved in designing Guthrie’s theatres, was the designer. The architects Renton Howard Wood Levin Architects were engaged and the building itself began to take shape in 1969. It was completed in two years, on time for the opening performance in November 1971 of Fanfare, an evening's entertainment comprising children participating in an improvised scene, Chekhov’s Swan Song with Ian McKellen and Edward Petherbridge and a music hall finale with a Sheffield brass band.
The Crucible is a producing theatre, meaning shows are designed and rehearsed in-house. These productions are normally overseen by the Sheffield Theatres Group. In 2001, the Crucible was awarded the Barclays ‘Theatre of the Year Award’. It is a Grade II listed building.
The World Snooker Championship tournament has been played annually in the Crucible since 1977. The Ladies World Snooker Championship was also held at the Crucible between 1998 and 2003 but was eventually withdrawn due to financial difficulties. The venue has also hosted championships of other indoor sports, such as table tennis and squash.

Walk from Sheffield's Crucible Theatre to Winter Garden and Peace Gardens in Sheffield City Centre.
This short walk starts outside the Crucible and Lyceum theatre in Tudor Square before heading up towards the Sheffield Winter Garden.
Inside The Winter Garden we walk through the plants and foilage but also stop to take a quick look at the TV Outside Broadcast Studio that the TV uses during the World Snooker Championships at The CrucibleTheatre.
As we exit the Winter Garden we check out the water balls before turning right and head into The Peace Gardens for a nosey around this popular chillout spot on Sheffield City Centre.

Places to see in ( Yorkshire - UK ) Lyceum Theatre
Places to see in ( Yorkshire - UK ) Lyceum Theatre
The Lyceum is a 1068-seat theatre in the City of Sheffield, England. There has been a theatre on the site since 1879 when the Grand Varieties Theatre was built. Made of wood and originally intended to be used as a circus, the theatre was managed by the parents of the music hall comedian Dan Leno in 1883, who regularly performed there in the early stages of his career. Leno's lease came to an end in 1884 and the theatre burnt down in 1893. This was replaced by City Theatre but this was demolished six years later to make way for what is now the Lyceum.
Built to a traditional proscenium arch design, the Lyceum is the only surviving theatre outside London designed by the famous theatre architect W.G.R. Sprague and the last example of an Edwardian auditorium in Sheffield. The statue on top of the Lyceum Theatre is Mercury, son of Zeus and Maia.
By the late 1950s, the Lyceum were experiencing financial difficulties and by 1966 bingo callers were keeping the rumoured threat of demolition at bay. The theatre closed in 1969 and, despite being granted Grade II listed status in 1972, planning permission was sought for its demolition in 1975. The building was saved in part due to campaigning by the Hallamshire Historic Buildings Society.
Over the years the building changed ownership many times, being used variously as a bingo hall and a rock concert venue. By the 1980s, the interior was in a state of disrepair. The theatre was bought by two Sheffield businessmen in 1985, with financial support from Sheffield City Council, and it was reclassified to Grade II* listed status. Between 1988 and 1990 the Lyceum was completely restored at a cost of £12 million. The theatre reopened in 1990 and now serves as a venue for touring West End productions and operas by Opera North, as well as locally produced shows. It is part of the Sheffield Theatres complex with the neighbouring Crucible Theatre and the Crucible Studio.
The Lyceum presents one of Sheffield's annual Christmas pantomimes. For many years the pantomime attracted famous actors and variety turns and visiting producers in the months between Christmas Eve and Easter. In the 1940s, the Lyceum began to produce its own pantomime and was soon bringing in stars of radio such as Morecambe and Wise, Harry Secombe and Frankie Howerd.
However, closure of the Lyceum meant that after the final pantomime performance in March 1969, Sheffield's pantomimes took place in the neighbouring Crucible. The pantomime returned to the Lyceum in 1990s, as touring production companies put on shows.
