Japan Aegis BMD (JFTM-4) Stellar Taka Flight Mission Success Quicklook
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and the United States Missile Defense Agency (MDA) announced the successful completion of an Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) intercept flight test, in cooperation with the U.S. Navy, off the coast of Kauai in Hawaii.
The event marked the fourth time that a JMSDF ship has engaged a ballistic missile target, including three successful intercepts, with the sea-based midcourse engagement capability provided by Aegis BMD.
The JFTM-4 test event verified the newest engagement capability of the Japan Aegis BMD configuration of the recently upgraded Japanese destroyer, JS KIRISHIMA. At approximately 5:06 p.m. (HST), 12:06 p.m. Tokyo time on Oct. 29, 2010, a separating 1,000 km class ballistic missile target was launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands, Kauai, Hawaii.
JS KIRISHIMA crew members detected and tracked the target. The Aegis Weapon System then developed a fire control solution and launched a Standard Missile -3 (SM-3) Block IA missile. Approximately three minutes later, the SM-3 successfully intercepted the target approximately 100 miles above the Pacific Ocean. JFTM-4 is a significant milestone in the growing cooperation between Japan and the U.S. in the area of missile defense.
Also participating in the test was USS LAKE ERIE and USS RUSSELL, Aegis ships which cooperated to detect, track and conduct a simulated intercept engagement against the same target.
Approved for Public Release, 10-MDA-5854 (4 Nov 10).

Japan Maritime Self Defense Force to Build a Billion Dollar Aircraft Carrier to Counter China
Japan government already spend billion of dollars in spending modernization project in order to protect its people against Chinese agression. This year a plan of building an aircraft carrier is on discussion what type of carrier would be.
Japan’s ruling party recommended, that the nation should produce its own aircraft carrier and buy more American F-35B fighter jets in response to aggressive Chinese actions.
As of now, Japan has four landing platform dock type destroyers, the Izumo and Hyuga classes, which both can accommodate F35B Fighter jets and helicopters.
China has said that because of “historical reasons,” Japan’s military policies “receive a high level of concern from Asian neighbors.” It has said Japan should “refrain from doing anything that would damage regional peace and stability.”
The party didn’t specify what type of aircraft carrier but lawmakers are looking at whether to select those destroyers or built a new type at the cost of $1 billion or more which can handle fighter jets.
Japan defense budget is increasing up to $47 billion this year as it funds new military bases on southern islands as well as improve its cruise missiles and ballistic-missile defenses.
The final version of the recommendations will be released in May 2018.

Japanese destroyers
May 29, 2004, four Japanese destroyers in tight formation approximately 250 miles northeast of Hawaii. Ships are JDS Haruna DDH-141, JDS Amagiri DD-154, JDS Asakaze DDG-169 and JDS Inazuma DD-105. Video taken from USS Fletcher DD-992.
The Japanese ships left Pearl Harbor the previous morning, bound for San Diego. The Fletcher left Pearl Harbor the previous afternoon and caught up with the Japanese on the following day. A helicopter from one of the Japanese vessels was taking video of their own tight formation and the commander of their group was gracious enough to allow Fletcher to approach close enough for this photo opportunity. Fletcher and the Japanese ships were proceeding to the same destination however the Japanese were traveling at a slower speed which is why Fletcher caught up with them the day after leaving Pearl and why Fletcher arrived in San Diego before they did. All the Japanese ships were impressive, maintaining a tight formation like this is not easy and they did a great job. Thanks to the Japanese commander for allowing the USS Fletcher to come alongside.
This video was uploaded in 480p format and for some reason YouTube has downgraded it to 240p. If I decide to upload another version I will post a link to it here.
