Planning a trip to Cuba? Wondering what you should see or do while in Cuba? I’ll show you the destination city of Varadero not too far from Havana that is known for their beach. My friends and I spent 3 full days in Varadero and these were the highlights of what to do in this beautiful getaway city.

Exchange the money you plan to use at the airport. They have the best rates surprisingly and safe place to exchange.
We stayed at an Airbnb that was managed by the “Hotel Los Delfines” and was across the street from the beach. It offered a buffet of breakfast every morning. Definitely look into an Airbnb.
Talk with locals they are friendly and helpful. They will give you all the inside scoop of where to eat, where to drink, and what to visit.
We went in October so very Humid, Unpredictable Weather, so plan for that with light clothes, sunscreen, a small umbrella, mosquito repellent, and anything that will help you with tropical weather.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. Travelling to Varadero Cuba? Here’s a guide on what you need to know before you head out for your #Cuba beach vacation.
We had an amazing time enjoying the beach, seeing #Varadero town and drinking cocktails during our trip in 2019. We put together our top travel tips, recommendations and discoveries from that trip.
Check out Factoria Varadero 43 Cerveceria for a surprisingly amazing frozen daiquiri or Nonna Tina for mojitos! Other options are Casa de la Música, La Bodeguita del Medio and Snack Bar Calle 62.
For great coffee grab a café con leche from El Golfito or Panderia Doña Neli.
For a relaxed, no-frills Cuban restaurant with great food, don’t miss Sabor Cubano.
We recommend walking to get around but cabs are plentiful and can be found on Avenida Primera very easily.
There are shops and stores in town that sell essentials for locals and tourists. Many of which are open late!
You can grab extra cash at ATMs, banks or by visiting the money exchange located in the Centro Comercial Hicacos.
Etecsa internet cards can be purchased at several Wifi Etecsa shops throughout Varadero town. The one we visited was at Avenida Primera and Calle 42.

Cuba travel tips! | Helpful hints on tourist cards, currency, Airbnb, buses, cash
Going to Cuba raises a lot of questions for travellers: How do the two currencies work? How much cash should I bring? How do I get around in Cuba? When do I get my tourist or visa card? How does the internet and wifi work? (We answer that question in another video!
In this video we address some of the common questions new travellers have as well as add a few #cubatips that we learned during our stay.
The bottom line is that #cuba is a beautiful and exciting country with tons to offer –– from the beautiful beaches to the bustle and excitement of Havana. It’s a country with a few unknowns however –– and it's changing rapidly, so even regular visitors can be surprised –– and the lack of easy internet access can make finding information once you’re there a little challenging.

Our tips:
Don't worry about the tourist card: They hand them out on the plane, whether you're on a regular commercial flight or part of an all-inclusive getaway package. Fill out both halves of the card and avoid errors or you'll have to buy a new one. The fee is small, but it will probably delay your entry. This tip is based on our experience as Canadian travellers, we're not sure how it works for travellers from other countries.
Use Viazul buses for inter-city travel: We recommend using Viazul buses, a comfortable and moderately priced bus line with routes between all major Cuban destinations. The great news is that you can buy your tickets in advance at viazul.com. Reminder to check in when you arrive at the bus station. You need to be there an hour in advance.
Or taxi colectivos: If Viazul isn't available, taxi colectivos are a more expensive but quicker to-your-door option. Generally, taxi colectivos will cost 3 times more than the bus. For example, taking the Viazul bus from Havana to Varadero is $10 CUC ($10 USD) per person. A taxi colectivo is about $25-$30 ($25-$30 USD) per person. Taxi colectivos huddle around Viazul bus stations. Drivers will approach you when you arrive.
Bring about $50 USD per day for spending: We recommend at least $50 CUC ($50 USD) per day for spending money for most tourists. Travellers with non-US bank cards can be a little more flexible because more and more ATMs are available, but that can be risky as ATM machines and networks can sometimes be down. So you can't make assumptions that getting cash from a machine is always available. Obviously, budget travellers can get by with much, much less if they stick to street food and avoid the tourist areas.
If you're at an Airbnb, get to know the host: A good Airbnb host can help with everything from restaurant reservations to day trips to arranging taxi colectivos; they will go out of their way to ensure you have a smooth Cuban experience.
Do an extra amount of research and planning before you go: The lack of easy internet means it's more challenging to do some quick research on a destination or activity, or even figuring out local customs. Brush up in advance and bring a good guidebook.
Take Cuba's challenges in stride. It's not personal!: One of the most disappointing things we saw in Cuba was watching a group of rich, entitled tourists walk away from a table full of delicious breakfasts because they were dissatisfied with their orders. The point of contention? Pancakes! Yes, that's right, the restaurant wasn't able to provide pancakes that day, so they walked out.
Use street vendors to get some Moneda Nacional (CUP): Moneda nacional is the currency that most locals use. Tourists use convertible pesos, or CUC. $1 CUC = $25 CUP. To get some CUP –– which is helpful for going off the beaten path and travelling a bit cheaper –– just use CUC at the small food vendors that are found throughout most cities. Your change will be in CUP.
Don't miss the beach!: Even if you're in Cuba just to soak in the culture, make sure you find your way to the beach at some point. They are fantastic, and a great relief to the hustle and bustle of the bigger cities like Havana!

CUBA Memories Varadero Resort , Catamaran, Dolphins, Classic Cars VLOG
I'm The Guy That's Done Everything and here's some footage from my stay at the Memories Varadero Resort! We went in April of 2014 and had an amazing stay. We did the catamaran excursion, swim with dolphin and went on a tour of Havana. A video of my time in Havana will be posted shortly. The food wasn't the greatest but we still had a blast, hope you all enjoy the video. It is kind of long but I didn't want to leave anything out! I will definitely be heading back in either 2015 or 2016 (maybe both!!)

In March of 2017, My youngest son Eric and I went down to Cuba for a one week trip. It was a great trip and it was my first time to Cuba. I have been to Mexico before but I did not know what to expect in Cuba so I watched YouTube videos about other people's trips which really helped so I thought I would do a video to help others. CUBA ADVICE & TIPS - Are you planning a trip to Havana in 2018, or indeed Cuba in general? I recently visited Havana in June 2018 and in this video I give you some advice & tips relating to my experience in Havana, on the following points -
1. Getting from the Airport/Taxis
2. Currencies (Cuban Peso (CUP) and Cuban Convertible Peso (CUC)
3. Wi-fi!
4. Jinateros (locals)
5. Restaurants, Food, Water, Tipping, Supermarkets, Convenience
Havana can be a stressful city to visit if you're not prepared, so it's worth researching, particularly around the two currencies and the wi-fi situation, especially if you're a budget backpacker!
Havana is an AMAZING city, it's so different from anywhere I've been before and once you get over a few frustrations, you'll have the best time!

Havana (La Habana) is the capital city, largest city, province, major port, and leading commercial center of Cuba The city has a population of 2.1 million inhabitants, and it spans a total of 781.58 km2 (301.77 sq mi) – making it the largest city by area, the most populous city, and the fourth largest metropolitan area in the Caribbean region.
The city of Havana was founded by the Spanish in the 16th century and due to its strategic location it served as a springboard for the Spanish conquest of the Americas, becoming a stopping point for treasure-laden Spanish galleons returning to Spain. The King Philip II of Spain granted Havana the title of City in 1592. Walls as well as forts were built to protect the old city. The sinking of the U.S. battleship Maine in Havana's harbor in 1898 was the immediate cause of the Spanish–American War.
The city is the center of the Cuban government, and home to various ministries, headquarters of businesses and over 90 diplomatic offices. The current mayor is Marta Hernández of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC). In 2009, the city/province had the third highest income in the country.
Contemporary Havana can essentially be described as three cities in one: Old Havana, Vedado and the newer suburban districts. The city extends mostly westward and southward from the bay, which is entered through a narrow inlet and which divides into three main harbors: Mari melena, Guanabacoa and Antares. The sluggish Almendares River traverses the city from south to north, entering the Straits of Florida a few miles west of the bay.
The city attracts over a million tourists annually; the Official Census for Havana reports that in 2010 the city was visited by 1,176,627 international tourists, a 20% increase from 2005. Old Havana was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982. The city is also noted for its history, culture, architecture and monuments. As typical of Cuba, Havana experiences a tropical climate.
